  1. Knowingly offering lesser contracts and throwing trade offers around as items to credit a front office with seems really patronizing. We have set the bar for credit far too low.
  2. Well, sure, but that's not where they are right now. Gordon had a rough end to last year and he's all over the place on prospect lists. Romero had a lot of hype last year, but it didn't translate into a dramatic rise up the boards either. I'm not dismissing any of their value going forward, I'm just saying right now is a sub-optimal time to be shopping this package.
  3. It probably doesn't help that all the guys we're talking about - Kepler, Gordon, Romero - are not at the height of value. This is probably as low as Gordon has been. It's just not ideal. But I'd be more willing to venture down this sort of non-ideal path if I thought it really ticked the club forward. I'm not convinced it does.
  4. Lumberjack is a good look for Tyler Duffy.
  5. Now this is a blog idea to help us all laugh through our misery.
  6. I'm not arguing it's crippling. I just wouldn't spend any time trying to argue it as a positive. We lost our best pitcher for a month, spinning that into positives is just silly. There is a wide gulf between "Crippling" and "let me try to sell you this rock and tell you it's a lump of gold" I'm in that wide gulf. And I'd suggest the degree of silliness required to try that argument might be indicative of the value of your overall effort. Maybe, rather than go down paths that absurd, it would've been better to just try something else entirely. Or, at least, understand why people aren't buying your sales pitch that the rock is really gold.
  7. Yeah, but Milwaukee has a bigger market and better weather. Wait....
  8. Ok, so you want to balance the bitterness. Wouldn't a far better tact to have been an article titled, and themed, "Ok...here's what we can still do" and then go on to discuss our options in the wake of a disappointing result? Instead, in the face of disappointment to try and sell the idea that Ervin Santana not pitching is a good thing (among a host of other arguments that make "silly person" Monty Python memes seem insufficient) just seems desperate. Or disingenuous. Or insulting. Or a host of other unpleasant adjectives. That doesn't balance the bitterness, it only enflames it.
  9. Necessity is the mother of invention.....and that's pretty much all I've got.
  10. We could also save wear and tear on Buxton by sitting him until June. Anyone down for that?
  11. Again, just start resigning yourself to Tillman and Garcia. (And even taht might be wishful thinking) And then brace for a TD article about how much better they are then Darvish and Archer. Probably featuring their charity work. Or how their kids dress. Or god knows what.
  12. And probably another starter still.
  13. Also, I'd feel a lot better about a move like this if it was in conjunction with spending some serious money on FA upgrades. By itself, I worry about how much it actually moves the needle. (And I like Archer a lot)
  14. You know what might help alleviate some of the brooding and pessimism? If we weren't trying to force feed optimism and understanding into this. If we just accepted, even for a day, that this sucks. No one pretending it's fine. No one making excuses. We all just accept it stinks. Then move forward with what's next. It's like watching your house start on fire and turning to your spouse to talk about how nice the fire makes your landscaping look.
  15. This. I expect us to get Garcia and Tillman and we'll get sold on how much their veteran presence and leadership will help a young team.
  16. Of course! Until there isn't. Then we can talk about how death by shark isn't as bad as you've heard. There's always another way to spin things!
  17. "Don't worry about the ship sinking, I hear the life rafts stay afloat for at least ten minutes!"
  18. This just in: FA contracts have elements to them that favor players and may be expensive. Maybe next year, now that we know this vital bit of information!
  19. What were they thinking then at the time they enthusiastically told the fan base they wanted to "do it"? When the owner and the FO both confirmed their intent, they had to know the expected price correct? We are sitting here on February 11th with Darvish having signed well below the line that was floating around at the time. If they were serious about 5/160 being possible for this team, then why weren't they offering it? If they were never going to go to 5/160, why were they actively (and clearly deliberately) telling the fanbase otherwise? The only rational explanation out of that box is that they knew the owners were colluding to drive down prices and were secretly thinking they could be in the 5 year/whatever range the market would bear with collusion happening. Is that possible? Sure. Is it more likely that the Twins were never going to play in the market of 5/160 with all kinds of player perks? By a mile. So now you have to decide why, when they know they aren't in that market, why they would say they are.
  20. This sounds more like you think they were delusional. I'm not sure that's better.
  21. It seems your conclusion is "lip service". I guess I'm just done with that personally, which only adds to the disappointment. I had no grand delusions we were going to land him, but that won't stop me from holding the Twins to the expectations they set.
  22. Wouldn't hyping it imply they were willing to play ball at the expected level? If so, the expected level likely would have landed them Darvish. So it begs the question....were they ever really serious or were they paying lip service? To some of the other themes going on right now....no, we don't have concrete facts about anything. But we have a lot of probabilities and none of those favor the "aw shucks....Twins can't catch a break" responses.
  23. I'm glad someone else said this. Bothers the heck out of me. I'm two spacing this and it will come out one space.
  24. That might have been your preference, but the team stated otherwise. And they had as ripe an opportunity to fulfill those pledges as we'll likely ever see. You can rationalize it later with Plan Bs, but take this for what it is: The team failed to do what it heavily implied it was willing (and attempting) to do. Objectively - they failed and they only have themselves and their lesser offer to blame.
  25. I guess. But he was a Bull and that seems to be all it takes with Thibs.
