  1. Well, I agree we don't need a defensive replacement, but we may need to have Granite ready because Buxton has hardly been the beacon of health. I do wish we had another right-handed option though.
  2. Well, if the Odorizzi trade also results in Cobb and LoMo I'd say that move becomes even more amazing. I like that they are continuing to spend money they should be spending to improve the team.
  3. Yeah, Gomez for the same money wouldve made more sense. But glad they are still spending.
  4. Well, we can move on then. There is no common ground on punishing this guy further. One of the issues rising in conversation is how "easy" it is to just walk in off the street and wander through the school. I think that's a mischaracterization, but I also think people are naive to think you can completely lock down a school's entry points. I've been in schools that had only one entrance point and it worked well, but not all schools can operate that way without major remodeling.
  5. I would simply suggest that a military firefight and a school shooting are not the same thing and that the comparisons you listed are all flawed in different ways. We can work on reforms with law enforcement and their response, but this isn't an area we should focus on. I can tell you that schools and law enforcement have revised their approach to these shootings several times over the last 3-5 years. What I'm asked to do and told the officers will do, is quite different than it was 2 years ago and WAY different than 5 years ago. So changes like this are happening because both schools and police want these to be more effective responses. I think the larger social issues are what are in dire need of change personally.
  6. Yes. He was expected to go in. He should have gone in. No one is disputing that. What is in dispute is what you want to do because he didn't go in. And what you suggest you want (personal liability for failure to "act") will almost certainly, in my opinion, lead to other kinds of tragedies. And it will embolden or force police officers to be more aggressive rather than tactful in the face of dangerous situations. I think what he's suffered for his inaction is enough for him and for the next officer. What you suggest will only do more harm than good.
  7. I'm also not ok with laws that embolden police officers to be more aggressive in situations where they perceive a threat. Make no mistake, that will be a consequence of what you suggest. In general, I think responding to situations like this and looking for people to scapegoat and put in jail is a wrong-headed response. He has enough happen to him already that I find it sufficient. I don't want some law we pass today to cause the next officer to do something reckless. You'll have a lot of this in your world.
  8. Let's see this sustain. That's the key.
  9. To stick with my analogy, we are welcome to discuss many fronts on this. We can talk about all sorts of issues about Trump, but spending time on Big Macs is irrelevant in comparison. But let's just ask one thing about this hill you want to die on. You're implying that we should pass a law that punishes officers who don't go rushing into schools guns blazing in a crisis. And you can't see some problems with that? He got reprimanded, retired in shame, and has to live with this the rest of his life. I'd say this case is closed, time to move on to more comprehensive issues that can lead to better solutions.
  10. If there is a major knee injury that might effectively end his time here.
  11. Law enforcement. But that doesn't change that you're lost in the weeds. This is like walking into a conversation about why we're worried about Donald Trump and insisting we talk about how bad Big Macs are as a diet choice. Yes, Big Macs are bad. Not even close to the top of the list of things to worry about however.
  12. No, i want to concentrate on meaningful issues that could solve this. Law enforcement is an ally in attaining better gun control. Making it about this cop's inaction plays into the NRA's hands.
  13. Do you know what resource officers are generally asked to do? Every school I've been a part of uses these men and women more as counselors and educators. They're picked for that role so they can help intervene with students in a less aggressive way and steer kids towards better choices. I'm not sure what crucifying him accomplishes.
  14. School resource officers are asked to do a lot and I don't believe riding in like a white knight to kill a school shooter should be on that list. While I would've preferred he took different action, emphasizing his role is really missing the point. Unless, of course, your point is that "a good guy with a gun" is not a solution to anything.
  15. Honeywell getting TJ surgery.
  16. I wasn't necessarily saying the leg kick was a bad thing. But you don't see many like that last until the majors.
  17. Minor league deal...that's fine.
  18. I was responding to ashbury's point and to the larger call for teachers to have guns. It really had next to nothing to do with what you said. We seem to have decided as a society that a teacher's salary and training is sufficient to do, well, everything. "Let's arm teachers" doesn't shock me a bit, it's par for the course.
  19. If they wanted to hold me "partially liable" they can take the meager paycheck they already give me and shove it. There is already a crisis in terms of the number of qualified teachers we have, if you make them carry weapons they will leave in droves. I'd quit on the spot and I love what I do despite all the negatives...but that would be a bridge way too far. But then, I'm already the babysitter, parent, nurse, scientist, counselor, psychologist, behavior analyst, artist, tech support, maid, hygenist, diplomat, writer, life coach, actor, manager, legal counsel, spiritual advisor, moral compass, activity planner, ringmaster, and consultant for these kids..... what the hell, why not add police officer too huh?
  20. Well, I don't know of many teams that have tried that sort of thing and it's hard to imagine the failure being any worse than it appears to be at this point.
  21. The Nolasco fears are a little less so for Cobb. He has demonstrated success in the AL, for whatever it's worth after his injury.
  22. There is no ace coming. Which stinks, but I'd rather have another number 3 than roll out the AAAA dregs.
  23. I agree, signing another arm doesnt stand in their way. It stands in the way of the potential dregs we could throw out there.
  24. Right - Reed, Burdi, Jay, Chargois might never be a factor for this team after looking like near locks just months ago. And that's why I'd be quite happy to sign Lynn or Cobb rather than thinking Gonsalves and Romero are our keys to success.
