  1. Dude was a cute kid back in the day too. Really hope this kid makes it!
  2. Losing Polanco does hurt, but I don't think the Indians come anywhere close to 3rd in the AL in offense next year. I also imagine their pitching (while still clearly the best in the AL) won't be quite so dominant. They had the best ERA+ in the last century. Odds are not good for repeating that. I think the depth the Twins have in their lineup and their pitching staff makes up a lot of ground on the high-end pitching of the Indians. But the Twins are a far shakier bet because there are still so many players we're unsure about.
  3. I don't think the margin is that great. The Indians were historically amazing as a pitching staff last year, I'm not sure they can repeat that level of production. And I'm not terribly convinced their offense can muster what it did last year either. (I have similar concerns about the Twins, but I think the margin is closer to 2-3 right now)
  4. I commend you for handling that way less derisively than it deserved.
  5. Boy, that infield looks thin. I hope they're still in the market for someone.
  6. It's hard to imagine winning playoff series after losing to a team that just got whooped by 61 the other day.....
  7. Just because you insist there is bias in play does not make it so. So maybe you should drop it. I have enough information on what bothers me - MLB is trying to use Congress to enforce low wages on minor leaguers. I don't care what their motives are - nothing reasonably possible would justify it.
  8. As Brock pointed - the electricians are already deciding how the plumbers get paid. If you want to advocate for a minor league union - go for it. Probably necessary. But the reality is that MLBPA uses them for leverage when it suits them and abandons them when they don't. It's a bridge already crossed.
  9. The Indians deserve to be favorites, but the Twins are not far behind. I think the margin here is slim enough that injuries are going to make a huge difference.
  10. You keep trying to suggest everyone is "fanatically" on the side of the players. And multiple posters have directly refuted that in this thread, it'd be nice if you would actually absorb that at some point in the discussion. Many of us blame the veteran, MLB level players for using those guys as leverage and cutting them out of the pie. It's why I have no rooting interest in a labor war except that fans eventually stop getting screwed. However, the league and the owners trying to leverage political clout into a further devaluing of minor leaguers? That's another level of slimey. They're trying to bypass the admittedly flawed CBA process by going through Congress. You can make up whatever explanation you want to give the owners shade on that, but for me it does nothing to change how underhanded it is.
  11. Most goalies don't show it.....until they do. This ream can roll 4 lines with anyone right now. Hopefully Spurge is back soon.
  12. Legion returns soon. Jemaine Clement + Aubrey Plaza = entertainment.
  13. I guess I just don't see many Republicans left that fit in that camp. If that principle mattered to them, most of them got off the bus figuratively when Donald was getting off it literally. I think most of the reason this story is being pushed is to try to damage Trump from people who don't like him. But a) I don't think it does damage his support and I think many of his supporters love the "womanizer" image. Unless something ends up with him testifying in court (like the defamation suit), I think this is largely a waste of time. (And that is a uniquely Trump thing. For most politicians this would matter a lot)
  14. I'm just not sure these stories do anything for that. I wasn't suggesting Dems need Evangelicals, I was suggesting that the purpose of this seems to be to weaken his support among the conservative christian types and I just don't see that happening. The hypocrisy is thick, but I don't think it moves any needles.
  15. I'm not sure any of this matters. Evangelicals will stand by him if he shoots someone in broad daylight. There is no ground to be gained with all of this.
  16. I would suggest that the very fact that mods feel entitled to edit user posts may imply a problem in and of itself. (One I believe to be true, full disclosure) I doubt most posters here would support that kind of moderation though. A private message to discuss what needs to be edited is fine - but then leave it up to the poster to edit or remove what is problematic. Perhaps the site could explore options to temporarily suspend a post during this process.
  17. At this point we're looking at keeping Granite and I'd rather have him at AAA. Raburn was released, so we could go get him. He has some positional flexibility too. I'm not in love with him, but he seems like a better fit for this roster than Granite.
  18. Seems ideal for the bench...no?
  19. I hear he weighs 600 pounds and will be allowed a designated runner as well. As long as we're dabbling in hyperbole.....
  20. Since there are some people that know Betsy personally or may be more connected, is there more information about the investigation out there? In particular, reports I heard indicated that there was "conflicting" accounts. I know Betsy and Miguel have conflicting accounts, but what of the other 18 people? Maybe there is nothing else to know, but I would be curious to find out if anyone has anything more clued into the investigation. (Plus, I think that we know a lot about one version of the events, but there were a sizable number of questions at the outset about other people from the Twins that may have been present)
  21. The hardest step will be the first: genuine recognition of the problem. I mean, we're still actively screwing over Native Americans in courts to this very day. We like to pretend the sins of the past have stayed there and turn a blind eye to how they still persist.
  22. I'm happy for the team and for Miguel. I hope for Betsy there is justice in telling her story and having people listen and sympathize with her.
  23. I've only seen him as a guest on Fox and he always struck me as being about as bright on issues as that semi-racist uncle you see once a year and try to avoid talking with. He'll fit in well!
  24. I think that's the key: see it as an investment. Im confused how that isnt already the view of these new waves of FO. Seems like a small price to optimize diet and rest.
