  1. So you don't think latin players are more prone to criticism in baseball right now? (They're also more prone to retaliation) I'll have to dig up the Kinsler thread when he made his asinine comments, there were several links with a wide range of information suggesting that there is. I won't have time to do that for awhile, but I'll find them sometime today. (If some other poor soul wants to dig for that thread I'd appreciate it) I think that issue is very relevant to this one.
  2. How is the undercurrent of criticism for Latin players a strawman relative to this discussion?
  3. I really hope Buxton finds a way to minimize these. He's had trouble keeping himself on the field so far and the team clearly relies on him for his defense. (Not to mention his upside)
  4. Yay to the bolded part! Let's do that! To answer your first question...the part in italics. That's the tangent. That isn't happening but for people feeling like they are being indicted and your arguments that enable it. Let's do that bolded part. Please?
  5. Unfortunately, it is a strawman. That strawman began on the first page of the thread and has persisted despite ad naseum attempts to refute it. They are only linked insofar as those in the conversation refuse to separate them for whatever personal reasons they have. We can comment on things generally without it being an indictment of everyone. I will use the analogy again: I can feel our criminal justice system needs reform to provide better racial justice. That does not mean everyone in that system is a racist or even actively contributing to racial injustice. Nevertheless, reform is needed. I'm sure you can come up with a host of your own examples. Pick whichever one works for you and hopefully it helps you realize that continuing on this tangent is fallacious and distracting.
  6. I would agree, the initial example wasn't the best. And that does matter, it gets the conversation off on the wrong foot. To me, Sano is the better example. Or Ian Kinsler's bone-headed comments. Or others that have happened in baseball over the last few years.
  7. Yes. You can reach those conclusions without being racist or without a racial component, known or unknown to you. You can criticize Sano and Rosario and have nothing racist or racial in your argument. Bookmark that. Highlight it. Tattoo it to the conversation. It should no longer be necessary to repeat. However, (and this is what we're talking about) you might also reach those conclusions because you're racist or your thinking has a known or unknown racial component. All anyone is doing in this thread is suggesting that the frequency with which non-white players have baseless (as you acknowledge) criticisms leveled against them might suggest a racial component. Considering there is a significant undercurrent of Latin criticism in baseball, I think it's worthy to consider. Frankly, the bulk of your post is aimed at a vein of this conversation that is a strawman. A strawman all too common and unfortunate.
  8. For the record, I understand what you're saying and I think it's valuable to point out. It's important to hear those close to situations and their feelings and observations. It's also important to remember that the pursuit of truth requires more than just witness accounts. We should want truth and dialogue in the conversation along with the emotion. Otherwise, like so many other movements these days, when the emotion is done being vented the problems still remain.
  9. I really think he's going to have to pad that hit total to have a chance.
  10. Alexander is going to be a good test of the "CBs take a big step their third year with Zimmer" mantra I hear. And he'll need to, he's been pretty bad to date. So yeah, I'd agree another CB is important.
  11. How the hell did that slip unnoticed for the last few days? Ugh.
  12. I guess I don't see as many holes as you do. It'd be nice to add a DE, a LB, a CB, a couple OL, RB, TE, and WR. That's 8 and all of them save one are depth roles. Most teams in the NFL could only dream of walking into a draft in that kind of shape.
  13. As I recall, that Strib hatchet job was fairly well received. I don't recall 100% condemnation of the article. Every Reusse article has had vocal proponents in his corner despite next to nothing in the way of evidence for his opinion. This preseason there was a lengthy thread where people decided to rip Sano for his weight with no evidence to support their opinion. (And when evidence surfaced, they just moved the goalposts) Is that enough to declare any one person racist? No. Does that make it racist? Maybe, maybe not. But is it worthy of considering? I'd say so. This is a kid that had Tommy John and came back ahead of schedule. He played through the death of a child. A kid who overcame a hard ass life that none of us posting here can relate to. Maybe he deserves some praise along with all the vitriol. And maybe why we're so eager to embrace that hatchet job and reluctant to dole out praise leads us back to why this conversation started.
  14. "That was yet another unacceptable mistake from Eddie Rosario" vs. "Eddie Rosario is too lazy to fix the mistakes he keeps making" Those are very different kinds of criticisms, just to put it in plain terms. Not all criticisms have racial elements, nor do all posters and I would rather not go around accusing anyone of being racist. Besides, one can have unnecessary racial (which is not the same as being racist) elements to one's thinking without being a racist. We all do, in fact. It doesn't make you an awful person or a racist. Where you start to go wrong is in steadfastly refusing to even consider the possibility it exists.
  15. You're spot-on about needing a RB, I had forgotten about that. We have a healthy number of compensatory picks to work with to add late talents. Alex Cappa is very interesting. I'll have to watch more on him but that's a great name.
  16. I don't think a high end guy will, but perhaps Rudolph or Jackson does and someone moves up. I'd be good with a trade down too.
  17. You may well be right, but we're going to have to sacrifice at some position. IMO, WR and LB are the spots to do that.
  18. Draft is coming up, here is a quick wishlist for me at each pick: 1st Round: G Will Hernandez (A gigantic mauler, instant starter at RG), LB Rashaan Evans (I think he would do well as a SAM backer and Barr's eventual replacement in the nickle) , S Justin Reid (Reminds me a lot of Harrison Smith. Imagine having two of them!) 2nd Round: C/G Billy Price (Love the way he plays, would have natural chemistry with Elflein, 1st round talent slipping because of an injury), DT Harrison Phillips (lunch pail DT who will be a force and free up LBs to roam), CB Kevin Tolliver (if you think you can coach him, you're getting a high end talent) 3rd Round: Anyone of these guys who slips or C/G Frank Raganow (lunch pail guy with versatility), Michael Gallup (Diggs-like player, tough, fast, smart), Dalton Schultz (sooner we replace Rudolph the better) After that I hope we walk away with at least one WR, TE, CB, LB, and OL by the end.
  19. I'm hoping the Vikings invest another mid-round pick in a LB and send Barr on his way. He's a great player, but he's going to be seriously overpaid. The reason I'd suggest a Waynes extension is I think it would be fairly affordable (6-7M) and he's a solid player. Finding solid corners is not an easy task and allows you to spend draft capital other places going forward. The WR money going around is going to force us to let Diggs go. I love him as a player, but I have no interest in giving him 12+ a year.
  20. Yeah Hunter was disappointing last year and that is very concerning. It may also mean you could get him for a decent price now rather than in a year if he has a big sack total. I might prefer we resign Waynes over Sighs or Barr.
  21. Sean Hannity is also a Cohen client they tried to hide.
  22. I worry what it will cost to keep Diggs and he has had durability issues.
  23. Great deal, he and Hunter are my extension priorities.
  24. If they get swept like this that’s fine. But 7 shots for KAT? That’s absurd.
  25. I felt like he spent more time thanking the people who "truly heard him" than he actually had contrition for saying something profoundly stupid.
