  1. Hiring Rudy is only going to hasten this whole process.
  2. Keep the challenging the kid, that’s all I ask - Don’t make it seem like he’s languishing.
  3. Is he exclusively playing SS or bouncing around?
  4. That's fine, I'm glad to see that. But these complaints came after a game in which Berrios was pulled and the bulk of the mop-up was done by Magill and Duffey. I guess I'd rather play it safe with Berrios and throw guys like that out there all day long in a game that everyone seems to agree was already over.
  5. I'm sure the board would've been forgiving of Molitor had Berrios blown out his elbow on pitch 80 of a 6-1 deficit so he could save Duffey for future use. Lose-Lose. Blaming the wrong guy.
  6. I don't see how measuring "expectations" is any different than conversations about "real talent". All of these are an amalgamation of opinions used to set a benchmark.
  7. You're right, I haven't heavily researched it. I do know that common sense tells me that throwing my starters out to get shelled in lost causes has almost no upside at all. That he's not saving wear and tear on a bad bullpen? That's what makes Molitor a bad manager? If I were a Twins fan I'd care a lot more about why we can't turn to a bullpen guy and get outs rather than why my manager didn't force my starter to burn through another 30 pitches in a lost cause. These are replaceable, meh bullpen guys. Replace them if they can't mop-up a game. I don't find it a particularly valid argument to attack the manager though.
  8. This is a terrible post. I don't care how valuable you've been to this board, I'm ignoring all context and focusing on just this small sample size. It gives me no choice but to recommend you be banned. Forever. Possibly with Chief ringing a "shame" bell as you exit. And with that I'm still well out of reach for being the most ridiculous post in this thread.
  9. If your 7th inning guy comes in and turns a 2-1 game into 6-1 do you just leave him in to finish the game then too? I guess I just have never seen a baseball team, in any era of the game, leave guys out to get shellacked in order to spare the rest of the bullpen. (Well, beyond the mop-up guy I guess. But even then we put in position players often) The psychological impact of ballooning your ERA and the reaction of fans are just two of many reasons why it's never been common practice IMO. I know you weren't necessarily throwing Molitor under the bus for these decisions, but it is coming up. I'm not sure what people want Molitor to do. I guess he could offer to forfeit, but with the way his staff is pitching we might blame him for waiting until the 5th. Some nights he might as well do it pre-game.
  10. I assumed you were already on it pre-emptively.
  11. I hope these kids are able to find a loving family that will take them all.
  12. Let's hope he has a nice debut. We shouldn't expect miracles from the kid, there is a good chance he isn't as dominating as we all would like to dream. So I hope no one is unfair in what they expect from him. The real miracle is that we don't have to suffer through Phil Hughes again....for now.
  13. Right, but there are psychological aspects to this as well. You don't want your starter out there just eating outs and getting pummeled either. I think this particular criticism (why is Molitor pulling awful pitchers to put in other awful pitchers?) is being mistakenly laid at the feet of the wrong person. Seems lose-lose for the man we think is the problem, so perhaps he isn't the one to blame.
  14. All of those things can be true and she could still have achieved a lot of good too. The problem is how selectively dismissive or emphatic we are about a persons life when we have an axe to grind. We should knock that #$&* off. Across the board.
  15. I don't want to give her a pass on criticism, but some of what has been leveled nationally and echoed here seems to go past that. A liberal, Joy Reid, is going through a similar thing. I guess I wish we'd stop at criticism rather than the lengths to which we go Instead.
  16. Does that one sentence offset her contributions to promote literacy? Or any other positive contributions? Why are we so willing to cast aside people entirely for any affront? Go ahead and criticize the remark, but good lord have perspective.
  17. And everyone on the roster is more likely to make an out when they bat....I’m thinking this misses Souhan’s point.
  18. Well....is it possible they are related? He doesn't stay on the field consistently enough to develop a consistent, successful approach? I don't know, I just see some athletes where you can imagine a bus hits them, they get a small bruise, and shrug. And other guys just never seem to walk away from a bad situation without an injury. I hope Buxton isn't that guy because he style of play almost necessitates a degree of impact/speed/contact....but his body has to start holding up.
  19. I just believe there are some injuries you can't overcome. And there is a certain threshold of injuries no team can overcome. And there is only so much you can invest in "depth" before you sacrifice quality for quantity. Depending upon who the player is, you simply cannot have a Plan B good enough to keep you in it. Or if you're someone like the 2017 Texans - when you lose 3-4 of your best defensive players, your QB, and a host of others....no matter how well prepared you are you're just not going to be able to overcome that. I don't think a drop in performance for injuries is an "excuse". There are some things outside your control. You still have to try and prepare for them, but not all injury situations make that possible.
  20. As a Sprint user...any ideas how the T mobile merger might work for MLB?
  21. Hill played well as a reserve tackle. But they are a mess at guard. I'm not sure there are 100 quality OL in the whole NFL.
  22. True...then he retired early to avoid the next one. Some guys just get hurt easier. Not a toughness thing or any personal thing, but I just worry Buxton's body just doesn't handle impacts well.
  23. He seems awfully prone to flukes though....no?
