  1. You make a lot of excellent points. Moving Duffey comes down to a numbers game at this point, we simply don't have enough numbers of capable major league starters for him to continue to be used in low-leverage bullpen situations.
  2. Did they spend money on any Cubans? Ever? No? Then I fail to see how you really have any counter-argument here to the point that my post was in reply to. The Twins don't do this. That's my point. You don't seem to disagree yet posted this reply anyway.
  3. Use money to add long term assets instead of placeholders.
  4. No thanks.
  5. Time to stretch out Duffey. I don't need to see any more Nick Tepesch starts.
  6. Yup, basically I'd say get him 20+ ABs a week. Ride out the slumps and see what you have.
  7. I agree and that's sort of my logic with Vargas. Half the DH ABs (3-4x a week) and 1-2 days at 1B a week.
  8. The problem is that he isn't sitting 1-2 times a week because he's Joe Mauer. So whether he's been good in May, bad in December, or whatever - his playing time isn't fluctuating to match his production. He's in hell or high water and that is part of the problem.
  9. Players evolve and become more than what they were. Being slaves to their minor league stats isn't a good idea. He's shown enough to warrant playing time. The minor league numbers might dampen our expectations, but they shouldn't have us ignore what he's done. He's earned the playing time his last 200 ABs. Play him.
  10. He's part of the problem. Yes, he's been better, but he absolutely can sit 1-2 times a week.
  11. Or Joe Mauer and his 88 OPS+ and 87 wRC+. Time to be a part time player.
  12. Well, the team should always be looking to improve. But they have a kid who can provide some things this lineup needs (power) and he's sitting right there. They just have to play him. Maybe he busts, but you won't find out yanking his playing time erratically on him. As RB points out - Vargas has managed to be similarly productive over a whole season as Dozier despite getting yanked around. Time to invest in that and see what you have.
  13. He's a young player. He needs to play 4-5 times a week and you need to ride out slumps from time to time. We've gotta get over the demand for instant results.
  14. They also had limited compelling opposition. There best villains were basically ripped off from TNG and they were second rate ripoffs at that. I agree with you, the height of the war with the Dominion was some really, really good stuff.
  15. And just so I didn't take this too far afield - I wonder how many other young talents have similar issues with the transition between the two different forms of equipment. Berrios can't be the only one.
  16. At least that would be a good reason outside of baseball's control. I would think they could find another way, but at least that's not penny pinching.
  17. Which might be fine.....if there was a good reason. An extra nickel a baseball or whatever it is, is a preposterously arrogant and stupid reason.
  18. Pixies are still around too.
  19. It amazes me to no end that this is even the case. Why the hell are we using different balls? I'm genuinely curious - what possible good comes of that?
  20. DS9 is underrated, but I agree.
  21. Yeah, they are more right than you and me, I don't disagree with that. I just try to keep perspective on how much it's possible for them to know and the heavy grain of salt their analysis should be taken with. It's no insult to them, it's just an acknowledgement of how utterly impossible it is for them to be what we seem to think they are. It's also why I don't hold it against them when they are so frequently (and profoundly) wrong about players. It's an impossible pedestal we've given them.
  22. From that era? Do you count The Foo Fighters? I wouldn't but their key member was born out of that era and they are (inarguably IMO) the best rock band of the last 20 years.
  23. Baseball is far from the only sport dealing with offensive language - all of the major sports really seem to be working to address this for the first time. I think it's largely a good thing.
  24. I'm not sure I agree. They are expert aggregators, but the real experts are the ones they are aggregating. You could say they are the best sources, but experts implies they have personal knowledge and I'm not so sure that's true. At least, not as widely as we seem to believe. And, in saying that I'm not saying they can't be experts if they became scouts or had a more narrowed field of study. I'm saying that given what they are doing, it's next to impossible for them to be experts on any given prospect.
