    I agree with this. I used to frequent The Ringer and when they switched up their UI to the monstrosity it is now I never went back. I like this vibe. Also, have we considered a limit on the number of people named Cody writing articles?

    It should've been last offseason. I'm starting to wonder if the people in charge of the 40 man have some sort of weird vision disorder where they can't see the letters O and F next to each other. I don't have any rational explanation otherwise for why our 40 man looks the way it does or why we thought bringing him back was smart.

    It's become pretty evident that selling off would've, at the very least, given the team a roughly equal chance as they've had since they bought. Not a single player that this board clutched their pearls about trading has done a damn thing to help get to the playoffs.

Didn't include the Iowa game) Pre-deadline - 21,078 2025 Post-deadline: 21,586 Pre-deadline 20:25: 21, 969 There isn't much evidence by way of attendance that this team has anything but the diehards showing up at this point. The only way out is a true winner IMO.

    Crazy part is....they almost certainly would've been a better team given how minimal the impact from Larnach, Buxton, Ryan, and Jeffers has been.

    Buxton has always struck me as a really, really good dude. Forcing Keaschall to play in CF can't be something he enjoys seeing. Watching Morris get his ERA blown up over a ball that should've been caught can't be fun for him to see. I get where he and the team might have their hearts at (on the field, contending) but the real, actual results of not keeping him on the DL until he is healed, or not immediately putting him on the DL after that hideously sad injury the other night, doesn't just hurt Buxton. There are downstream harms to this constant battle to play short-handed while never, ever, ever considering the idea of having a backup CFer on the roster. I don't understand how we opted to bypass selling at the deadline but then haven't been willing to pull out all the stops afterwards if contention is really our top priority.

    If memory serves this team was slated for low 70s win totals by most of the major gambling institutions. Right now they are on pace for 77ish wins. So I think it's safe to say they have slightly over-achieved to this point. Slight overachievement is great and then we confused that with having made big strides and being contenders. Which, coming off an aggressive move to sell and remodel the team last year at the deadline, is sorta like deciding after you mash and puree your potatoes you want to make hashbrowns.

    Diehards on a diehard site think they speak for casuals who care that they got Minter and Hoffman. I commented we'd have meaningless games in September. I may have been optimistic.

    Even now, with how obviously hurt he is....we're dragging out decisions to keep him on the field. Let the man rest, I don't understand why we're sitting here with Keaschall in CF debating this.

    I agree. Let's have Ryan Jeffers, Royce Lewis, Brooks Lee, and Trevor Larnach be our new rotation. Can't wait to blame them for getting shelled. Honestly, your post deserves to be insulted for how catastrophically ridiculous it is.

    I feel bad for Keaschall. He's going to feel ****** but terrible roster management put him in a spot he shouldn't be playing.

    I think we pretty much agree. From my perspective he was clearly playing hurt. The kind of hurt you respect a player for battling through when the stakes are high, but the kind you'd rather they sit down and get better if the stakes aren't high. I think the argument to get him to rest is easier when your organization isn't playing make-believe about how good they are.

    I think there are some things I agree with here and one deeply problematic assumption. I agree - if you wanted to be an actual contender the time to do that was not August 2nd of 2026 or even March of 2026. It was right from the end of 2025. But they didn't do that and, for me, chasing something you never even tried to build is silly. But it is a really unlikely assumption to think the 2027 AL is going to look like this because, statistically, this year is a huge aberration. I mean, this year isn't anything like last year is it? I don't think assuming another field this weak is at all a fair take. Part of my argument is that you're not good in this crappy AL field. When regression kicks in....how far are you behind on Opening Day 2027 with all else being the same? To me, you're already behind where you are right now. Now you're down Jeffers. You won't have two months of Larnach being hot. Who knows what we should count on Buxton for. Even if some other things go right (Lopez, Keaschall, Jenkins, etc.) you've still got an uphill battle to climb. One which I personally would've rather had more assets in the tank to help with rather than wasting them on this doomed-from-the-start pipedream. And again...the re-emphasize....all the folks that the pipedreamers were SO adamant we had to keep have been non-factors, terrible, or part-time players on this supposed contention run of ours. We passed on peak value for this slog.

    Well that's sorta the rub right? I think the "trying to cling to a WC spot" is driven by Pohlad. I think a team that rightly sells at the deadline doesn't have that mentality and isn't pushing Buxton to play as part of a pennant chase. Maybe it'd given Buxton the feeling that he didn't have to injure himself chasing the ghost of contention. Now, that said, he might have insisted anyway, but at least there wasn't an organizational push towards "we're contenders god dammit!" mixed into it.

    Odd thread here.... I'll go back to what @Danchatsaid early - Buxton's contract is an easy win for this franchise. He's wildly outplayed what we have paid him. I'm glad he got life changing money and a chance to live out his dream here. At the same time, as I said when it was signed, his injury history sets up a lot of potential for tragedy and we saw that unfold the last few weeks. He was a husk of the player he's been and it lead to one of the more depressing injuries I've seen happen. I hope he's able to come back. The lack of reading comprehension for @nicksaviking's rather basic point is stunning too. Tom Pohlad pointed the north star of the organization in a direction - logic and odds be damned - and last night a guy who shouldn't have been playing got hurt at the expense of that floundering pipedream. I'm sure Buxton, Shelton, and all the actual decision makers agree with him in this push. Sometimes though, the adults in the room, need to be able to admit the truth of the situation and stop playing pretend. I wish that had happened prior to Buck going down.

    In a very narrow, immediate sense...yes. Maybe, that's not even a given. In the case of the players listed you are responding to...Jeffers has started 14 out of 20 games we've played since the deadline, Ryan has been basically non-existent, and Buxton has been terrible. Throw Trevor "I'm hitting like peak Pedro Florimon" Larnach on the pile too. I could absolutely make the case the team would've been better having dealt all of them. Plus they would've recovered assets and payroll room to supplement any assets acquired in the deals. So I fail to to see how this blanket statement applies the way you seem to be applying it? What am I missing?

    I've planted my flag that I think that pick is going to work out for us barring injury. However, there is no doubt that they basically gave up a late 2/early 3 type value by not trading down before they took him. I really hope the new FO shows a better handle on maximizing player and draft value.

    I think I'd move him for a third. Anything else and it's just not worth it unless, as you say, he's a huge d-bag.

    I like Keaschall a lot. I want him in this lineup....but let's be real, the best we can hope for is passable. He's got a terrible arm. He's quick-footed enough that you might get him to be able to have good range in RF and not screw up enough to be a negative. That's our best case.

    I think teams under .500 shouldn't plan on another year where being that bad keeps you in contention. If this team wants to build on this year it will need to do quite a bit to accomplish that. Then we find out how much the Pohlad rhetoric is legit. This half-measure deadline, if done this offseason, isn't going to move the needle.

    I said it last summer - the sell off wasn't my issue. The targets of our sell off most certainly were. We didn't target the right kinds of players in our deals from where I sat. Other than the Varland-deal-that-shall-not-be-named they appear to have done well last offseason...but this issue was a glaring mistake.

    Cutting him just seems dumb to me. It's not like anyone in that room is known for being an iron man and none of them are paid much. Might as well keep all three for this year and see where we are at the end of this thing.
