  1. Single payer is the only answer left. The market is too far gone for tweaks. Taxes will have to go up, but for the vast majority of people and companies, those increases will be more than offset by saving on health care costs.
  2. Most citizens do. And nearly everyone has been hit by the greed. It's why I'm so adamant the Dems run on that issue front and center.
  3. All of that is fine, but it does make things choppy to argue the list about trade value for one guy and present value for another. If Javier is 16th due to trade value, then it makes no sense for Gordon to be behind Cave or Cron. I don’t want to nitpick, but this is meant to be a fun conversational piece and a lack of clear method is going to derail it. It’ll feel like some random, dumb power rankings rather than meat for good conversation. The explanations only muddle this IMO.
  4. Ok...that explains Cron and Gordon.....but then Javier is 16th and none of this makes any sense again. There is no way he has more present value to the Twins than anyone on the big league roster. And probably a dozen dudes in AAA. I love him as a prospect to watch though, but he torpedoes this whole explanation with his ranking.
  5. Nope - rotation. Fill the pen in FA and let this kid start.
  6. Yup, FA plays by one rule: Pay the man. Time to do the same for a few more men. Preferably men who pitch.
  7. I'm happy the team was not content with Austin or Cron as DH. I think Cruz has a huge year. I love that he is a vet with a ton to offer this team. Great signing.
  8. I don't even think this is a gamble on winning. It's a gamble on flipping prospects and a deadweight contract for known quantities and which adds more long-term value. Come July this may look like a heist.
  9. Among many fascinating parts of this....is Anyone else mildly shocked that Republicans are also trending positively in their thoughts on immigration?
  10. I agree. They won’t blow up the combine but they are so technically sound and hard working they carve out long careers. Those two and Coughlin jump out when you watch them.
  11. I disagree with characterizing that move as all-in. It was a calculated gamble on upside.
  12. Truth is, he probably watches too much Game of Thrones. I doubt Jon Snow comes cheap, even in a better climate.
  13. There seems to be an agreed upon need for more technology down there. How much that costs I don't know. And immigration reform as well. Trump isn't interested in solutions or needs.
  14. I'd ask about Kyle Seager. Seattle wants to dump salary (he isn't even that expensive), plays better out of Safeco, good fielder, and he is a lefty infielder. Oh...and Olney says if you part with good prospects you may entice them to include Haniger to absorb the whole Seager deal.
  15. From the Reds side...you get out of Bailey's deal after this year, you get Puig longer term, and you just had to give up prospects. And if Wood or Kemp has July value you may recoup that. A bit risky, but lots of upside.
  16. That's so naive it's adorable.
  17. This is all posturing. It has real consequences, but DC never cares about that.
  18. With the ball in his hands Kyle Rudolph needs Benny Hill music. It's the only way to make your brain and eyes agree on what you're seeing.
  19. For wise reasons, these players don't consider teams other than the West Coast. But, hey! We're kicking tires!
  20. That's the nail in that coffin.
  21. Spirit was even worse than Frontier for us. But yeah, that's pretty much my rankings too. They're all terrible. We need a "complain about terrible customer service" thread. Because I would like to argue how Comcast is good and Centurylink may be the most evil organization this side of the Republican party.
  22. Oh, no I meant we should be the one who swooped in here. Now that he's a Mariner, that ship has sailed. But we should be in the Mariners' shoes. He was a really good fit.
  23. Also big right-handed power and plays a good OF. I'd much rather have him in the DH/OF mix than our current Cron/Austin mix. And he's young, so those numbers could improve. The skills and the upside are there and it's not like Ben Gamel is anything special. Hell, they basically gave up Austin and Sam Clay to get him. That's a good trade, even if it flops. You give up almost nothing for something spicy.
  24. Forget the trade Kepler angle...why the hell weren't we adding Santana? I think he'd fit real well with what we need.
  25. Really? Relative to the rest of em...I find them by far the most tolerable.
