  1. I agree, I think there was a lot of "behind the curtain" changes that were desperately needed. And I want to give them time to see if their draft picks and trade acquisitions prove smart. In the meantime, it'd be nice if our offseasons weren't so frustrating.
  2. True, that decision certainly hurt a lot. Though, personally, I'd prefer that sort of thing be handled by updated legislation rather than putting it in the hands of the Court. Idealist, I know, but that's how it should work.
  3. Clearing OF spots? Adding prospects to help make a trade? If Cron is our 1B, I'd like to place a call about Winker. I'd prefer he be a better defensive player, but I prefer him as a DH to having Cron and Austin on the roster.
  4. Pretty sure the Liberals are still to blame though. At this point, I don't know how anyone with even the slightest bit of ability to think broadly can call themselves a Republican. They don't stand for anything anymore. At least 10-20 years ago they truly did want social and fiscal conservatism. Now? Hell if I can define that party other than hating immigrants.
  5. He's always struck me as what I imagine a good judge is - someone who uses their best judgment given the case as presented to them. He's had flaws, but I'd rather have 9 Judge Roberts than 9 liberals or 9 conservatives. At least that's been my perception of him.
  6. Why NL pitchers go to the AL to build back value is beyond me. If I'm Harvey I see which NL pitcher's park will take me and hope for a big payout the next year.
  7. At the rate of this offseason, we should be contemplating trading Gibson. So, yeah, but default you can't extend him.
  8. While true, those 58 years of failure are spread across many groups of ownership, players, coaches, etc. I don't like to make judgments now based on that.
  9. Actually...I think I do agree with you. Adding Cousins was supposed to deliver a Super Bowl. I'm not in the mood to lose again, no matter the circumstances. I try to be a realist about what is likely to happen though. So I won't get out my pitchfork and torch, I know how hard it is to accomplish what I want them to. At the same time, I'm not going to be happy with anything but that.
  10. 4 times in the last twenty years ain't bad. And even that's just teams that win the SB. Wild Card teams have made a lot of deep runs. As I said upthread, though, I'm not sure that matters with how weak this pass rush is away from home. And I won't buy into the changed offense for at least two weeks.
  11. I share your doubts. I'm in wait and see mode. I was just pointing out that historically, wildcards make deep runs in the NFL. It isn't uncommon.
  12. I don't think you can start him in the minors. One of the consequences of manipulating his service time was basically guaranteeing him a job out of ST. If you don't, then you might as well cut him. Keeping him in AAA to start the season will probably destroy his confidence as a player and his desire to succeed a Twin. I know there will be some who scoff at his likely emotional reaction to that scenario, but Byron is also a human. If this is going to work to motivate him....you simply have to give him the opportunity. Or it's all for nothing.
  13. Also an excellent point.
  14. Yeah, but as Pseudo said, she barely lost to a candidate the Dems are almost certaintly not going to find an equal for. She does have to play a weird dance in terms of how closely she allies with Trump, but Ducey has done a great job of that. So the blueprint exists. And as Ducey's limp opponent demonstrated - getting a good moderate in Arizona is really hard.
  15. It's far from unusual for wildcard teams to make runs. But I don't think this team can do that unless I see the running game continue this kind of pace.
  16. That's more than I thought he'd get.
  17. I'm with you on the upside, but his issues are deep. In ST last year he looked ridiculously awful. Now, that's ST of course, but those issues carried on into the regular season prior to the injury. I want to give him the CF job and invest in his upside, but there are absolutely valid reasons to be pessimistic about him. The range in what we could see from Buxton in 2019 is very, very wide. He could be an MVP candidate or he could OPS .450.
  18. Fun again? Been a bit of a roller coaster, that's for sure. This pass rush is totally different at home versus on the road. That's going to be an issue come playoff time.
  19. The offense has serious rhythm. Big holes to run in, lots of time for Cousins, lots of play-action. I mean, if this becomes a thing.....we'll be a dangerous team. Also....when did MacKenzie Alexander decide to be good?
  20. Well, that firing is looking like a good decision so far.
  21. Except....I never said it was bare when the new guys took over. You totally skipped the context and then launched into this. His point was that TR didn't have the means to make trades his second run, but if that's your argument...he has only one person to blame. (And it ain't Bill Smith) The new guys did take over a system with some talent. So far, I'm not enamored with their moves either. However, I wasn't talking about them at all. Nor was the conversation or your initial post about them at all. What your initial post demonstrated is that the Twins, for too long, were shut out of adding talent via a number of avenues. I don't think it's controversial at all to say that Ryan was not an aggressive trader - both as a buyer or a seller. Ultimately, that did hurt the team. These guys? I did like their deadline aggressiveness, so in terms of strategy I at least appreciate that. And they didn't ride the middle like TR and made a choice one way or the other. I like that too. How successful their trades were won't be known for awhile.
  22. TR is the reason the farm system was bare. Unless you want a cupboard full of failed relief-to-starter projects. And I'm well aware of your schtick, I know your response will be to die on the hill for TR. But the fact is, while he did some things really well, trading was not among them. He was neither good at it or active at it. (The former may be the reason for the latter)
  23. Michigan and Wisconsin are doing their best to help turn out a lot of angry, anti-Republican voters.
  24. The Twins lack of trading over the decade or so prior to our current FO certainly has had major consequences. It's one of the reasons why this deadline was so refreshing.
  25. Machado's brother in law....
