The inconsistency with this team is my number one reason why I think firing Zimmer and keeping Spielman is a defensible position. It's evident how talented this team is when it isn't being coached into losses. Helluva start.....but my god, giving up 17 yards on 3rd and 19 has to be the kind of thing I'll miss the least about Zimmer's coaching.

At this point 2022 is a non-competitive roster. That being the case at-bats need to be treated as upside investments. Simmons upside is "not horrible aging defender". No thanks. -
I'd be curious to read that. I agree that the Zimmer version of that is detrimental, but I think there are other teams that make it clear that a lack of balance is a problem too. The Bills and Chiefs are floundering, in part, because no one fears their running game. The Eagles were floundering until they put more balance into their offense.

This team is likely 7-10 or 6-11. The less wins the better. Start talking Cousins trades with Denver or Philly or Pitt or the Giants or whomever. Jefferson, Cleveland, Darrisaw, O'Neill, Irv, Hunter, Kendricks, and some young guys are keepable. Ditch the rest and blow it up.

I would only quibble that unions do come with downsides. I think this is an oversimplification that isn't fair to the point.. Your last paragraph is spot on though.

Perhaps this logic should also apply to owners as well. If they want to profit from their real estate they should stop soaking taxpayers and use their own money.

And that's where the players lose me. The billionaires who pilfer tax payers to enrich themselves can get bent....but stuff like this is why I can't do anything but be annoyed at the whole thing.

I don't call them selfish out of any false belief they'll change their behavior. After all....they're selfish and inconsiderate. Why on earth would I expect them to recognize their stupid behavior and change it? If they had that ability, they'd already have done the right thing. Sometimes, it's nice to just call someone out for what they are. If they want to wear "I'm an Idiot" as a badge, that's on them. If you want to keep defending selfish idiots, that's your right to throw in with that lot.

This is baseball's last chance to save itself from the brink in my opinion. Personally, if the league can't make some fundamental changes to how its balanced then I'm not really interested in continuing to invest my time -
we have really hit a weird cultural point where people are shaming those who shame the selfish and inconsiderate members of society.

I guess I see this as exactly the kind of logic I was applying to the thread in the Twins forum: you don't have to make FA signings for the upcoming year alone. I'm with Otto: this is a team that has a boatload of expendable money who is making a long-term investment. It would be short-sighted to view these deals only in light of what they bring to 2022. The Rangers must feel good about Leiter, Jung, and their ability to keep adding to their pitching staff. I can see the logic of it. It may not prove prudent, but that may depend on how they continue to add.

It's very different from the rest of the Marvel catalogue.....but Hit Monkey on Hulu has really grown on me. It's like a weird mashup of Kill Bill, Sudeikis doing his own merc with a mouth, and a well dressed monkey. It shouldn't work but I dig it.
