  1. I think they've added time travel to mental illness weirdness and that could up being great....or incoherent. We're 4 episodes in and I would say the second season hasn't lived up to the first. Then again, it was the last 2-3 episodes of Legion last year that made me love it. It'll be hard for this show to ever top this.
  2. It's times like this that I'm glad I didn't get the extra innings package to watch this team.
  3. The more this year unfolds, the more I wish it had been Gomez and not LoMo.
  4. If Molitor ran Gibson out for another inning and he started getting shellacked this thread would be bashing him for it. I appreciate those that are at least attempting fairness in their criticism.
  5. I would like to suggest that I take Kinley's roster spot. I'll only be marginally worse and they can sign me to a 10 year deal for the minimum and they'll never have to play musical chairs with their throw-away 25th spot on the roster for a decade.
  6. Is Paul Molitor secretly disguising himself as "Kyle Gibson" and "Lance Lynn" and "Fernando Rodney" and "Zach Duke" and "Phil Hughes"? No? Then I don't get why he's the focal point of our frustration.
  7. Any time you commit money to a player for a long term you are taking on a ton of risk. I still agree with the thinking at the time and that is ultimately what matters. Outcomes long-term don't always work out the way we'd want them too, but hindsight shouldn't have that much control over our thinking. And we'd all personally look like fools. Between Hughes' extension, people demanding a trade for Troy Tulowitski, and how many of us were keen on giving up Berrios for win-now guys....none of us would be safe.
  8. If I recall, Morrison did try to lay down a bunt last night. (And failed miserably)
  9. I really think he's going to have to pad that hit total to have a chance.
  10. Great piece and congrats to Mauer. There was a time I thought he had a shot at 3,000 hits and then a stretch where I thought 2,000 was a pipedream. It's been a rollercoaster, but I hope he can string together another 3-5 years and give himself a shot at the Hall.
  11. What "evidence" you have is still based almost entirely in speculation. That's fine, but it's much weaker evidence. What I actually said was that saying it's "likely" to happen flies in the face of evidence. A phrase which typically means the vast majority of evidence available is on the other side of your opinion. And, further, I explicitly said there is a chance it's true. What I have taken issue with is the word "likely". So I'll reiterate: The idea that Trevor May, who hasn't started a baseball game in two years or even pitched in one for well over a year, and a promising prospect who hasn't risen above AA will "likely" be better than Ervin Santana flies in the face of majority of the evidence we have. Could it happen? Yes. Is it likely to happen? That's silly hyperbole.
  12. I disagree, you have credible speculation. You have plausible hopes. Not evidence. Plus, I'm not sure the argument "he made 20 starts and was so exhausted he stunk terribly" is a compelling argument. And, again, this is not crowning Santana or crapping on May and Romero. Just taking that hyperbole about "likeliness" back to reality.
  13. They're going to get killed. But hopefully the scrounge up a few wins in the series. That's, I think, all we can really hope for.
  14. Absolutely, injuries are wildcards that shake your confidence. Im making no grand predictions about Santana, more asserting just how grand a prediction it is to think May or Romero are going to jump from their last season to what was stated in this thread.
  15. I freaking LOVE the way Kepler reacted after those homeruns.
  16. That can all be true and it can still be silly to think it is "likely" he'll be worse than a guy who hasn't started in two years (or pitched at all in a year) and a rookie who had a 4+ ERA in AA last year are going to rise up and be better than him.
  17. The last time Trevor May started a baseball game Barack Obama was President. Fernando Romero has pitched one game above AA and last year, at AA, posted a 4.25 ERA with a WHIP of 1.35. I don't care what your definition of likely is, they aren't "likely" to outpitch a guy that has posted an ERA+ over 100 all three years with the Twins. Is it impossible? Of course not. But likely is just nonsense.
  18. I have a hard time calling May or Romero "likely" to be better than Santana. I mean, you can believe that if you want, but you do so in the face of things like facts and evidence.
  19. Worried for the whole year? Not yet. Worried he's going to be available for far less of the season than previously indicated? Yes.
  20. My wife had a similar take. I'm a bit apprehensive as well, but Noah Hawley has a pretty good track record so I'm reserving judgement on that.
  21. Garver's shot was an absolute blast. Get that man more playing time please.
  22. No one should be eager to see Dozier go because of prospects we have. But we also shouldn't be eager to give a middle infielder his age any contract over three years either. Dozier being a late bloomer has put this decision in an awkward spot, but I think cooler heads will determine that any long-term investment is likely a mistake.
