  1. Kyle Gibson’s trade value is 0% impacted by his ranking in our rotation. That ranking is utterly irrelevant to his value to anyone, including the Twins. What makes him valuable is team control and play on the field.
  2. I generally live my life by "What would Dick and Bert agree on" and then do the exact opposite of that.
  3. All the more reason not to offer those two a QO. I am under no illusion about the team spending big this offseason, but tying up 34M in these two doesn't sit well with me.
  4. I just don't see how August and September are going to move the needle on Gibson. That's essentially what you're saying - Aug and September will make him more valuable in December. Right now his most valuable asset is he'll give you a year plus of team control. I think his team control right now is worth more than any increments of value you might accrue by him continuing to pitch well for two meaningless months with the Twins. I see little or no upside in waiting on him.
  5. We are tossing around QO for Escobar and Dozier, I don't think 17M would be required for either player in order to keep them on a short term basis. Moustakas and others are a good example of that IMO.
  6. We rarely know what is actually out there. Sometimes taking an offer that is less than what you hoped is still better than getting nothing.
  7. Man, there is a lot of risk with that. Dozier is a poster boy for this cautionary tale.
  8. The Twins should be willing to take just about anything for Pressley and Grossman if, for some reason, there is interest in them. You don't have to deal anyone on this list, but they should all be shopped. And if you get an offer at or above what you'd hope - deal them all. You can figure the 25 man roster out later.
  9. Chaff gets you low value returns. Gibson, Esco, Dozier, and Rodney are the only players with a real chance of landing prospects that could help. Baseball players, cruel as it is, are diminishing assets as their age increases and team control expires. Gibson makes a poor bet to extend, likewise the others. If the concern is acquiring decent players for 2019, the team has ample means to do so in the offseason. And they'll have any traded-for assets in addition.
  10. The drafting sure seems to be better....so far at least.
  11. I can't argue with that position, just not there yet myself. Bracing for it though.
  12. You might be surprised how many players on this roster are over 27. I agree with that thinking though.
  13. No one is melting down or ranting. It's not panic to trade guys 30 years old to build around the guys that are 25. Labeling it that way is hyperbole. The players I want dealt are all bad bets to continue their contributions in the future. It is malpractice to tie your anchor to them and pretend that everything will be fine. Go ahead...build around Kepler, Sano, Buxton, Berrios, Hildy, etc. It might fail, but at least age is on their side. Esco, Duke, Rodney, Gibson, LoMo, Dozier however? No, it's not. Even when bad luck is a factor you have to know when to cut your losses. Sometimes you have to accept your setback and get back on solid ground before you push forward. It's a lot better strategy than thinking you can dig your way out of a hole by digging some more.
  14. This 25 man roster come August 1st better look a helluva lot different or I'm right there with you.
  15. Seriously, your post is all over the place and rather emotional. From a business perspective where it is important to make sound decisions grounded in reality, you're suggestions would doom a company. You seem to be ignoring reality and painting the future in the most positive light in spite of the facts. Gibson is already in his early 30s. A team on pace for 94 wins is not "a few relievers" away. These are just a few direct examples of what I'm talking about. Those statements are pretty much unjustifiable. The first because your quoted statement seems to say you understand the aging curve for pitching, but either don't realize Gibson is already there or are ignoring the implications. The second issue is almost comical. We might lose close to 100 games and we just need a few relievers? I'll save the adjectives for describing that, but....yeesh. It's hard to frame your argument any other way than hopeful in spite of the evidence. All evidence points to this team needing major reshaping. I'm sorry holding pat doesn't make sense, but it doesn't make sense. You should start to come to terms with that. It sounds like everyone around baseball, including the Twins, have already done so.
  16. What spycake said, Lynn's inconsistency has likely tanked his value and Pressley doesn't have the career chops to have much either. As for team control, guys like Pressley can be had with minimal effort. Like how we got him in the first place.
  17. It's too bad the Rockies aren't contending, because buying low on Gray would be great. I'm not sure they'd sign off on that though. Talking to the Brewers about a Dozier/Lynn package should be automatic after this series. Woodruff is a heavy sinkerball guy with great velocity, he might be worth a look. Corey Ray's speed might be nice also. Just two guys I saw that you could highlight a package with, not both together.
  18. Duke and Rodney will have value too. I think the team could net a really interesting haul for Gibson, Escobar, Duke, Rodney, and Pressley. If someone gives more than I expect for LoMo, Lynn, or Dozier than you should do that too. Standing pat will lead us to nothing but regret. None of these players are 22 or even 26, they're all well down the aging curve.
  19. Gibson is in his 30s already. Extending him past next year is pretty much doomed to fail before the ink dries. It was much like the Dozier logic...sure, you can try and bet that Gibson or Dozier will be the exception to the rule on the aging curve but it's not wise. You're far more likely to have it backfire in your face. I get that you're convinced we can just maintain the status quo and be "fine". No offense, but that kind of thinking is really, really flawed. If this was a business and you were advocating this thinking for your company I'd want to sell all your stock and warn your employees to jump ship. It's just not forward, value-driven thinking. And the Twins have been burned by that exact mentality for too long in my fandom. I'm done with it. I hope the guys in the FO go the other direction.
  20. You're talking about shopping all the guys that are unlikely to get any attention or interest at all. If you want to hand them away, that's fine, but it seems odd to me to assert how important and valuable Gibson is to 2019 and also assert he's worthless on the trade market. Likely to be the case that one of those two opinions is false. Gibson has been good (and his analytics are solid) and has control. He'll be a valuable chip. Lynn and LoMo? You'll be lucky if people answer the phone.
  21. Or the team could address some of those concerns in the types of talents they target. Trading Gibson for Sheffield (just as an example) basically changes nothing other than swapping the two players on the 40 man. The team has held on to talents far too many times, only to see them crumble into a valueless commodity we're all able to wash our hands of later. And Gibson may be the most valuable chip we bring to the table. You don't have to deal him, but you sure as hell better shop him.
  22. I’m not sure 2019 has to be the concern right now. If the team gets a variety of assets at the deadline, they can be aggressive financially and in the trade market come November.
  23. Trade him for Troy Tulowitski anyone? For the record, we're now almost a year into this change from Gibson. It isn't just a half year, this run stretches back to last year. The year of control and the last year of performance should give you some interesting offers. This team needs to sell on players like this, even if you swallow hard while you do it.
