    Do you know why hitters tend to have a much higher BA in Coors? His sample size away from Coors is robust. You ain't getting .725.

    In fairness, the whole league has been really, really slow. Doesn't excuse inaction by the Twins, but it's hardly isolated at this point.

    I agree, DH/1B doesn't have to be a lefty. I'd just like a player much more accomplished than Cron. Certainly I'd have preferred a much higher delta between Cron and Austin to warrant 5M and a spot on the roster.

    I don't mind looking at Bour....but then we basically have to waive Austin. Otherwise this list does nothing for me. (Assuming Harper is just a nice dream)

    Having two 1B-only on the roster is a mistake. One we've endured often enough. We have money to spend. DH/OF is not the spot to be penny pinching.

    This might be a valid argument if Cron was something more than he is. He's a "meh" hitter for his position and comes with no defensive attributes to help this roster. Having Austin and Cron as the plan for 1B/DH is a recipe for disaster.

    Having a full time DH and 1B that play the same position will make this roster much less durable against injury/ineffectiveness/ or other issues. Having a guy you feel comfortable playing at DH and non-1B positions insures you against any number of disasters that could harm the team. Especially in an era where most benches are 3 players deep.

    I have no earthly idea why you think it would be "wasted" to use one of a precious few roster spots on a guy that might be able to play more than 1B.

    Is there a rule the DH has to be a subpar 1B? Otherwise this roster would seem to be far better off with a guy who can play OF or 1B/3B.

    Sure and that's why I'm fine having one of him on the roster. I don't get spending 5M for his maybe better clone.

    If Austin and Cron are on the roster I predict a disappointing season for the Twins. Carrying two guys that can barely play 1B is unwise.

    You'd have 5M more to get bats and pitchers if you didn't spend it minimally upgrading your 1B position. 5M goes a long way with an infielder or reliever.

    What is Cron? A replaceable corner player who has had one year that was pretty good. Austin was roughly what Cron was last year at 1/5 of the price. Take that 5M and add it to the price you are offering for an infielder or reliever. Having both Cron and Austin on this 40 man roster is not smart. Plain and simple. We're passing on adding better options elsewhere for a mild upgrade at best. It's the kind of nickel and dime, ill-thought roster construction of the past. I don't like it.

    All of this and it shocks me that many posters here seem to think we can somehow roll with Cron and Austin on the same roster. The more time goes by, the more I hate this claim.

    So....yeah....he's on the roster. Hopefully we can be done with that avenue of the discussion.

    If this team marches into the year with Austin and Cron on the roster, you can just about raise the white flag on the season.

    I don't know how a baseball team in 2018 keeps both Cron and Austin on the roster. And if they do....it sure as hell looks a lot like the Park situation where we had Grossman, Arcia, Mauer, and Park on the roster. I'd hope we all want those days to be over. Having a DH is fine. Having 2 or 3 of them.....not fine.

    And the range of skill-set needed varies much more widely at the various IF positions than the OF ones. I like Nick's fourth point, if taken as "Let Austidillo play" I agree, let him play and see if you might have something pretty nifty.

    One look at Lemahieu's home/road splits should end anyone's interest.

    For me the comparison is more along the lines of roster construction. Adding Park seriously hindered that rosters flexibility. If they keep Cron and Austin I see the same problem. If they only keep Austin...why do this at all? If they keep Cron we spent 5M for a marginal (if that) upgrade and still need a DH.

    Low upside, nickel and dime moves. Those lose in the short and long term.
