  1. I think that's the new thinking in baseball. Arms have a clock and every pitch thrown in MiLB is one less you get at the big league level before injury/wear & tear reduce effectiveness. I don't see any reason why they can't work with him to get better at the major league level.
  2. Fair enough....I guess I meant he'll probably need a third pitch with a bit more of a difference. Then again, we've seen some really good pitchers have success with a few dominant pitches. I just tend to think a high-end starter needs one more. And he has so many ingredients otherwise to be brilliant. (Or maybe he has it and just didn't have command of it to throw tonight, I don't know. We're only two starts in to watching this kid)
  3. He's probably going to need a third pitch....but man does he have life on the two he throws. Is it true what the broadcast said that he's only allowed 7 HRs in his entire professional career?
  4. Good win with a tougher stretch coming up. The teams we're about to play are not like these tanking White Sox.
  5. Absolutely, the room is already a mess but Molly didn't have to throw his dirty clothes in the pile. But...the mess was there either way.
  6. The pitchers you want Molly to leave in or bring in are all terrible. It's lose-lose. The problems are more systemic than managerial pitching decisions.
  7. You haven't been. There were all those threads this week with "Why didn't he leave Gibson in!" and the same with Berrios.
  8. So....Molly leaves in his starter.....I'm sure everyone ripping him for an early hook will stay totally consistent in their criticism! But seriously Molly....keep Grossman out of the outfield.
  9. Keep the challenging the kid, that’s all I ask - Don’t make it seem like he’s languishing.
  10. Is he exclusively playing SS or bouncing around?
  11. I think they've added time travel to mental illness weirdness and that could up being great....or incoherent. We're 4 episodes in and I would say the second season hasn't lived up to the first. Then again, it was the last 2-3 episodes of Legion last year that made me love it. It'll be hard for this show to ever top this.
  12. It's times like this that I'm glad I didn't get the extra innings package to watch this team.
  13. The more this year unfolds, the more I wish it had been Gomez and not LoMo.
  14. If Molitor ran Gibson out for another inning and he started getting shellacked this thread would be bashing him for it. I appreciate those that are at least attempting fairness in their criticism.
  15. I would like to suggest that I take Kinley's roster spot. I'll only be marginally worse and they can sign me to a 10 year deal for the minimum and they'll never have to play musical chairs with their throw-away 25th spot on the roster for a decade.
  16. Is Paul Molitor secretly disguising himself as "Kyle Gibson" and "Lance Lynn" and "Fernando Rodney" and "Zach Duke" and "Phil Hughes"? No? Then I don't get why he's the focal point of our frustration.
  17. Any time you commit money to a player for a long term you are taking on a ton of risk. I still agree with the thinking at the time and that is ultimately what matters. Outcomes long-term don't always work out the way we'd want them too, but hindsight shouldn't have that much control over our thinking. And we'd all personally look like fools. Between Hughes' extension, people demanding a trade for Troy Tulowitski, and how many of us were keen on giving up Berrios for win-now guys....none of us would be safe.
  18. If I recall, Morrison did try to lay down a bunt last night. (And failed miserably)
  19. I really think he's going to have to pad that hit total to have a chance.
  20. Great piece and congrats to Mauer. There was a time I thought he had a shot at 3,000 hits and then a stretch where I thought 2,000 was a pipedream. It's been a rollercoaster, but I hope he can string together another 3-5 years and give himself a shot at the Hall.
  21. What "evidence" you have is still based almost entirely in speculation. That's fine, but it's much weaker evidence. What I actually said was that saying it's "likely" to happen flies in the face of evidence. A phrase which typically means the vast majority of evidence available is on the other side of your opinion. And, further, I explicitly said there is a chance it's true. What I have taken issue with is the word "likely". So I'll reiterate: The idea that Trevor May, who hasn't started a baseball game in two years or even pitched in one for well over a year, and a promising prospect who hasn't risen above AA will "likely" be better than Ervin Santana flies in the face of majority of the evidence we have. Could it happen? Yes. Is it likely to happen? That's silly hyperbole.
  22. I disagree, you have credible speculation. You have plausible hopes. Not evidence. Plus, I'm not sure the argument "he made 20 starts and was so exhausted he stunk terribly" is a compelling argument. And, again, this is not crowning Santana or crapping on May and Romero. Just taking that hyperbole about "likeliness" back to reality.
