  1. The Twins chose to ignore that a majority of the teams completely ignored the pitiful penalties in the CBA and hoovered up more prospects than them. They didn't do badly in int'l FA but their haul (2010-now) compared to most teams is probably in the bottom half or worse despite having one of the highest bonus pools during that time frame.
  2. A player won't have a BAPIP as high as .472 regardless of how hard he hits line drives. That number will regress and he will still be awesome.
  3. I feel the same way. Leaning Greene but I like Wright's upside and would be happy with either right now.
  4. The problem with this is that numerous 'safe' players drafted in the top 10 busted. Top 10 picks bust all the time. College picks might be safer but that is usually balanced by the higher upside of HS pick. I am undecided between Wright and Greene myself.
  5. The problem with this 'the Twins have options in the bullpen' is that they need several of those options to work out before they have a decent bullpen. Right now I don't subtract good RP'ers from that despite the massive need in the rotation.
  6. A more unbelievable Grossman number 28 Hits - 25 BB's - 20 singles Someone like Bonds with insane walk rates has surpassed 1:1 Hits:BB rate but there is no reason to pitch carefully to Grossman. His K:BB and BB rate just doesn't make any sense. Mauer never approached these kind of ratios fro example.
  7. I do that trade. It is too much money and too many years (age) but unless the Twins add a front line starter (or two) they aren't going anywhere. The rest of the pieces are starting to fall into place.
  8. I think a decent starting pitcher (someone that a worthwhile prospect is needed for) is more than 1-2 wins better than Gibson/Hughes. There is upgrading a rotation from an alright 5th starter and upgrading from something that is completely awful. But I still don't make that move. I target another Santiago type that can be picked up almost as a salary dump for a marginal prospect. For example Clayton Richard. This move is the epitome of boring.
  9. I think any optimism regarding Mejia is premature. It is just one okay start. There really isn't anything that says that he is different than Gibson or Duffey when they were coming up. I hope that Mejia is successful though. That would certainly answer a lot of questions about the future though.
  10. Yes, but I really want somebody with some potential to be in the bullpen soon. The Twins have a lot of RP'ers (around age 26) performing really well in AA/AAA striking out 1 batter/inning with a low ERA. Let's see what these guys can do. We already know that Breslow and Belisle can't do much.
  11. Yes, I thought it sounded crazy also but if you selectively use statistics it will make perfect sense.
  12. I can give Hughes and the revolving door at #5 another month but I wouldn't mind trading a non-prospect for someone like Clayton Richard. Nothing special but right now Mejia and Hughes are the only hopes at those two spots and that doesn't even take an injury to the 1/2/3 into account. The bullpen needs more arms but I want to see someone from Burdi, Melotakis, Bard, Hildenberger, Busenitz up with the team instead of Breslow or Belisle. Maybe they aren't ready but they are 26 (except for Burdi). Start them out in low leverage situations and see if they take off. The point is that the bullpen at least has potential improvement in the minors. The SP cupboard is bare for the near future aside from Mejia.
  13. 15 HR's in his last 240 PA's ('16/'17) with inconsistent playing time. That sounds like exactly what you want from a DH imo. Just put him in the lineup 5/6 games/wk and see what happens.
  14. It is May and at this point in the season you don't cut competent players (especially catchers) like Gimenez (Adrianza was also mentioned) so a player can get an extra 30 PA/month. Injury (esp catchers) happen and suddenly the team would be down to two competent catchers in AAA/MLB. Getting into July when there are 2+ months left then you can make a move like this and figure things out for the remainder of the year if something suddenly happens.
  15. This probably won't work since the Twins don't have Duensing anymore.
  16. I think you let this play out for another month or two (i.e. closer to the trade deadline). - there could be an injury (C or MI) - Escobar or Dozier are a prime trade chip for a MLB for MLB type trade (for a SP) if the right situation aligns. Don't be in a hurry to get rid of a good utility IF (Adrianza) - Gimenez's 45 PA (vs Castro's 100+) are not exactly killing the team - Garver shouldn't be relegated to a non-catching role (3rd catcher/PH/DH) this early in the season
  17. I think people need to step away from the 'so you have never said anything' criticism of this criticism. This type of language (about numerous groups) was extremely common back in the 90's (and even now) and I shake my head at myself some saying the things that I did as a teen and young adult. The key here is that some of us are able to realize that this is completely not okay and have chosen to correct that in ourselves. And pro sports are doing the same thing. I think the suspension is a little steep but I am glad that they are taking a step to remove these slurs from the game. And this isn't to say that any of us are perfect in this regard. But if we say something then we can expect to get called on it.
  18. If Berrios is this good then we need to see more of Tepesch because he is better than Berrios. BRING TEPESCH BACK!
  19. Did somebody just argue that Nolasco was the Twins 2nd best starter last year as if that had some sort of meaning or relevance? Or that Nolasco was somehow good based on 19 starts? I need to see a little more...
  20. I really would have enjoyed the Lakers losing both of their picks (this year and next) but oh well. This increases the odds of the Wolves picking from the leftovers of Isaac, Tatum and Markennan. At least one of them should be there. What if the Wolves took a PG though? Like 3 and D Ntilikina? This move doesn't fill a hole but Dunn and/or Jones could be moved and could fill the PG position long term with Rubio only under contract for 2 years. The Wolves would clearly need to pick up 1-2 players in FA to fill the wing and big holes in the bench though.
  21. Flynn wins hands down since it was almost immediately clear that he wasn't an NBA player. The Szczerbiak pick is quite a reach. Johnson and Williams fit in with the Longley and Spencer picks where there wasn't a great pick to be made although the players after Johnson have become BIG stars.
  22. I am not sure that there are other options available though.
  23. Does anybody remember when Tepesch was better than Berrios? I think they will try Gibson or Tepesch as long as they just want to get through a start or two. When Mejia comes up he should stay up instead of yo-yoing back and forth. And I think he should stay down for another month and until he looks really good.
  24. I think Kenny Rogers did something like this in a playoff game. I can't remember the details though.
