  1. Adam is nothing like the soft tossing Gilmartin. He's more like Pressly (Rule 5), Welker, Pryor, Hoey, etc... Interesting bullpen arm that throws hard but hasn't gotten good results yet.
  2. I thought we had to temper our enthusiasm.
  3. Who? Hicks? Rosario? Buxton? Hicks is the only one that is even an option this year imo.
  4. Willy is different than the rest of the players on this list. He is actually a decent MLB player. KC isn't bad but the Twins have a few remotely interesting players to toss into the rotation for the last month. Trading Willy basically guarantees that Parmelee gets every day AB's. Outside of 13 game hot month this year he has been decidedly mediocre in every opportunity as a Twin. I don't have a problem trading Willy but I find it rather uninspiring if they are going to replace his AB's with more of Parmelee/Nunez/AAAA players. Adam is at least interesting but he probably ends up in the bullpen next year. I wouldn't be surprised if he is in the rotation because the Twins want to see him throw more 5 competitive innings before the season ends. It's hard to get a read on a guy if he throws < 100 pitches competitively.
  5. This really isn't true. Imo Ryan stayed out of the 2013 FA SP class because it sucked and he knew it. Nolasco and Hughes certainly aren't bargain bin FA's and they were signed one year later in a much better FA class. Would you prefer that they signed bad pitchers for more money and years? I never said we should be happy and think Ryan was a genius for signing KC but he has (and KC) have gotten a lot of heat for not being a magician to find these mythical available good pitchers. He could have done a better job but it's hard to fault somebody for not signing a player (good SP'ing) when that player wasn't available.
  6. So TR is a wizard and can conjure something up out of nothing? The complaints about KC and TR have been that the Twins aimed low and addressed their biggest problem with a #5 starter. That was the reality of the starting pitching market that year. Neither TR nor KC should get any of the crap they have gotten about signing KC.
  7. 2013 was an awful offseason for starting pitchers. There were 2 high dollar FA's and a bunch of crap in the 10-50M range. The Twins could have spent more money for more years and they would have gotten the same results or worse. Short of a mega contract (I made a case for ignoring the whole FA market and signing Greinke) or a trade that gutted the farm system there weren't a lot of options.
  8. The angst towards Correia is humorous. It was time to go but I'm glad the Twins had KC the last two years. it was bad enough watching all of the AAAA pitchers cycle through the rotation and get destroyed. Having one more of that craptastic quality would have been even worse.
  9. the conclusion was good but I disagree with the analysis. He is a product of Oakland. Their ballpark continually has one of the lowest BAPIP's in baseball (in the .270's) each year while Target Field has a .300's BAPIP (a little above league average). In addition he wasn't traded for gio Gonzalez. That's like saying Mulvey was traded for Johan. Peacock (not a bad prospect although lowish upside), Norris and AJ Cole were traded for gio. Milone went along for the ride.
  10. Is the DH part of the bench? 13 man pitching staff = 3 man bench+DH I would do a 6 man rotation because most of the pitchers are young or have some injury concerns. Take a little bit of the load off of them so they end the season strong. Hughes - various small issues with the Yankees and only 140 IP last year Gibson - a rookie with 150ish IP last year May - 160 ish innings last year Meyer - on a big innings limit - bring him up and let him get a taste of the majors before moving him to the bullpen in Sept Nolasco - elbow issues (TJ waiting to happen) Milone or KC or Pino or I don't care who #6 is Of note the Twins have 11 games in 10 days in the middle of August.
  11. I want to read more about Romero. He has flown under my radar so far.
  12. The Twins should do whatever it takes to stay affiliated with Hartford. It's not easy to find top rate facilities and I'm not sure I would like to see the Twins move to the Texas League or the Southern League.
  13. Consider me unimpressed. the only thing that indicates Escobar is anything more than a utility player is a 43 game AAA sample size that includes a .373 BAPIP.
  14. Yours is obviously just a one game observation but I have read a few hints that there's a reason Polanco is at 2nd base and that reason isn't Goodrum. Disappointing but he's still one of my faves in the Twins org.
