  1. Because it will cost them Martin or Julien for 10 days. Damned if they do, damned if they don't. If someone gets hurt he will come immediately. I don't think there is an exception for the September rosters like a doubleheader.
  2. I don't think he will be here Friday, it will be Sunday. The expanded roster deadline is likely messing with the move. If they send someone down they can't come back until the 10 days and with the short season remaining that's too much. When he gets there, he has to be the fixture at short until Correa gets back. Castro needs to move around. Just play good defense, hit a little and play every day. No pressure at all. He's not a savior, but his presence makes everything else work much better.
  3. Slight cause for concern is that his walk rate has declined significantly as well. 8.8% is the lowest of his career. Coincidentally, his ground ball rate is up 10% while his fly ball rate is down 10%. Line drive is about the same. That would suggest there is a bit more work to do on pitch selection, maybe jumping on something earlier in the count to elevate. He's hitting it harder but I would think he needs one more step forward to fully develop into the slot in the order he has been filling. The team sees it coming to be hitting him in the two hole and I certainly have appreciated the high quality at bats he has been having. He's become an above average ML hitter with just the strikeout improvement, but room to get better is exciting.
  4. Also, as the resident optimist, I have to say I'd rather be dealing with the current issues than the young pitchers being in over their heads. What we are going through is fixable. Festa progress is exciting.
  5. Really liking what Wallner is doing, he seems to have a bit of red-ass too. Couple times he has barked at guys in the last few games. I wouldn’t like that guy mad at me.
  6. I’m wondering if they are a bit stuck by the expanded roster date. Never mind the suggested DFAs, they won’t happen, but it feels like they are trying to avoid sending someone down and waiting the 10 days to get them back. There has to be something other than just rehab keeping Lee down at this point.
  7. Festa started the 7th for one batter only. One last righty, then setup perfect for the lefty reliever. Looked great, in theory.
  8. The decision not to discuss these things is nicely timed with the loss of a couple EVPs in marketing and communications (and revenue) along with some downright silly public comments. They are much better off saying less, at least until they can get the new public relations staff in place. I would not be surprised if they were both already locked up for a while. To illustrate where I think Falveys open market value is I think about what teams would be interested in his services. I don't say this lightly-Derek Falvey is the guy that would finally make the Yankees move on from Brian Cashman.
  9. I'm also reminded of a series against the Rangers last year, right about this time. They sucked. They looked bad and sloppy and listless despite acquiring two top shelf starters at the deadline. They were also in 3rd place. I, for one, remember vividly writing them off. We all know how that went. This roster is very good. The FO was correct in hording depth and while that depth may be slightly out of its depth at this moment it's been good enough to hold things together. If they finish the season without Correa, Ryan, Stewart and Buxton, going on a run would be highly unlikely anyway. No matter what the FO or ownership did. With Buxton and Correa in the mix, they can absolutely win it all. The pitching will be fine. And that's all we can ask.
  10. Yup, no telling what happened behind closed doors and what conversations or instructions each guy had previously. Really it's just another of those mental oops that have been all too common lately. Make the mistake at full speed please. I don't discount the premise of the article though. Max has been in this position before and a private conversation last year led to a pretty strong second half. As private as Rocco is, we seem to hear about this with Max more than anyone.
  11. I have been thinking that Baltimore might be a better comp, especially considering they did nothing at the deadline last year to much consternation of the masses. There is a legitimate reason to let the in house options play out in the top 20 roster spots. This is messing around with the bottom 6 and there has been plenty of churn. Not as much of it has worked out unfortunately. I would have preferred a much more significant add in this range.
  12. And I've said a hundred times, money doesn't explain this one. Nick is correct with all the things he laid out, this is odd. The oddest thing about it is that Richards isn't a minimum salary player, not close. Right after the deadline, I put together a quick list of relievers who moved with less salary than Richards. In about 5 minutes I had 30 names. Why would they get one guy at 2.1m when 3 minimum salary guys would look fantastic right now? It ain't money. Higher prospect cost, to be sure, but we will never miss top 50 team prospect Jay Harry. (I just jinxed it, multiple TD articles inbound) Couple guys out of the top 30, maybe one top 20, and we are cooking right now. This one ain't about money, it's quite peculiar, but it ain't about money. Not everything is about the money.
  13. Now I'm wondering why they warmed Sands and are bringing Ronnie in?
  14. Who's playing defense now though?
  15. That was good baserunning by Jeffers but an amazing play by Profar.
  16. I mean, I'd take a field goal right now.
  17. Graceful, that one. Interesting choice to bring the lefty againt right handed heart of the order. Would have thought they had another guy.
