  1. Sano has 2.5 fWAR so far, projects to 3.9 for the full season, .363 wOBA and 126 wRC+, and is 2-3 years away from reaching his prime. Mark Reynold's had a single season of fWAR > 2 (career best 3.3). He averaged 1.1 fWAR, .341wOBA, and 105 wRC+. So Sano this season is having a close to Reynolds' best season (3.3 fWAR, .381 wOBA, .127 wRC+). And Sano has not reached his prime yet. Sano is the Twins' best player. Period.
  2. Missing: 1. single A, like the Midwest League. Low A aka A- aka short season A, like the NY-Penn league is lower than A and higher than high Rookie. For some reason people from teams that do not have A- leagues (like the Twins'), call single A leagues, "low" A leagues to contrast with "high A", but it is wrong. Just A. 2. Foreign rookie leagues, like DSL and VSL
  3. Garver's age should not matter. He is 26, and he will be under Twins' control for all his prime years (until age 32 or 33 depending on whether he is called up this season.) Gimenez has a .719 OPS, .308 wOBA, and 89 wRC+ vs LHPs for the season, so he is doing his job with the bat, and if Molitor just keeps him hitting against LHPs, he is fine. Most of the defensive metrics out the (DRS, rSB, inside edge) have him as pretty much average catcher. Bad days happen. He is not part of the problem this season. The Twins have bigger fish to fry, esp. in their pen.
  4. They do have a logjam at SS, if they decide to keep Lewis there. He and Javier cannot be in the same team and get enough reps at SS. And Javier seems to be a natural SS. Next season will be interesting to see based on those parameters. Great marketing move to send him to Cedar Rapids (got to remember the issues the Twins have with the town of Elizabethton as well, even though those seem to be easing up a bit.) Folks will be out for their race towards the post-season.
  5. This was a horrible decision, unless it was a game 7 of a post-season series or the last game of the season. For 2 reasons: -Enns had gas in his tank. He threw 50 pitches, he was good for another 50 or so. He was throwing strikes (70% of them) and allowed only 1 earned run into the third inning and the Twins had a 6-2 lead. This is not a message you want to send to a young pitcher. He needs to learn how to get out of those jams in the major league. He was ahead 6-2 and the Twins' win expectation was 74% when he was taken out. Santana has been in similar situations and was not taken out. So has Santiago, so has Hughes. Cannot tread your pitchers differently. That gives the wrong message - You have another series starting the next day. You are up 6-2 with a 74% win probability. You cannot afford to burn your pen that is not that good to begin with. If Gibby pitches a dud today, the Twins do not have the options they should have in the pen, and the whole series gets jeopardized. You play to win series at this point of the season, not single games.
  6. That's an old Bill James measurement. Here.
  7. Close. They have 5-6 catchers who all need to play and 17 and 18 year old kids need to take a break from catching. One thing that has to be mentioned is that DSL does not have a roster limit.
  8. Okay. I just knew the literal meaning.
  9. Dunno about the minor leaguers, but I was surprised by Polanco's jersey and the fact that the league allowed that...
  10. Got to add 17 year old Wander Valdez who is hitting .282/.378.443, signed as a SS and has been playing in the infield corners (mainly at 3B), which is pretty interesting news as well. Encarnancion is a bit older (19) but he is having a break-through season. Nunez and Urena are 18. Martinez is 20. Another 17 year old of note is Venezuelan C Victor Heredia who is hitting .286 /.384/.381. They barely play catchers so nobody has those 100 PAs...
  11. So, tell us about Lombardozzi... Who the second basemen were in World Series winners means less than who their first 3 starting pitchers, their last 3 bullpen pitchers, and hitters 3-6 were. Irrelevant. BTW, WAR, wRC+, wOBA put Dozier as the 10th-13th best second baseman in the league. This is right at the middle quadrant.
  12. You can say that Game scores: 33, 41, 45, 57, 71 but that 45 might be acceptable, might not... Average 49.4, which is league average pretty much. So he has been like a number 4 in a competitive team, which is not that bad compared to what the Twins have been trotting around in his place (and that includes Santiago.)
  13. True. Ripken managed both of his kids. So did Alomar Sr in the minors.
  14. That, and Detroit's bat's have ~ .120 higher OPS vs LHP over vs RHP, while Milwaukee is about the same
  15. Agreed. That's what I don't get. He is putting up Berrios numbers. If someone who has been with the Twins all season was putting those king of numbers, there would have been an outcry for his promotion. People are even want to see Slegers in the majors, who just won't cut it, over Enns. I don't get it.
  16. I'd say I am a Vikings fan, but I don't follow football as close as baseball. I do not follow pre-season games in FB, and I think part of it has to do with the seasons. Spring Training really signals the end of the winter, whereas pre-season football signals the end of the summer. Plus pre-season football games are pretty horrible. Never had an interest in fantasy football as well. I do follow every single game of the Vikings and follow it live, unless there is a conflict with the Twins'. Used to have the DirectTV thing, but these days is radio and video highlights or condensed game afterwards, unless the game is on live TV. Also, if anyone asks me who the Vikings starters are, before the season, I will not be able to tell. As far as other teams go: The Eagles' training camp is about 6 miles from my house and I have been there once with the kids and we all regretted it I do not watch school sports, including football much. The level of competition is just not there, as far as I am concerned. I played college football and my boys played up till when they made the decision a couple years ago they don't want to play any longer because of the injury situation as well as the culture in High School among football players.
  17. It's always ok to be excited about your team. After all, if you are not excited when your team playing, then you are not much of a fan Both of those trades were good for the Twins: Effectively they replaced Garcia with Colon in the rotation and got 2 MLB-ready minor leaguers (one of them who will pitch tonight) for Ynoa. This trade made the Twins better in 2017. Kintzler was not a regression that was about to happen, he was a regression that was happening. He was losing games for the Twins. Hopefully he will be replaced by a hot arm internally. (Curtiss, Bard, Melotakis, Turley, etc.) Busenitz for Breslow is a plus as well. Got to be excited for them to win and they will win some (that's the definition of a .500 team. Got 4 win streaks and 4 Loss streaks.) Just they are not built to win in a postseason and that cannot change right now...
  18. Who on the 40 man roster should be called ahead of him? Jorge did twice, and he sucked both times. Don't want to do that to Romero for sure. Off that roster: Slegers and Hurlbut will not be able to get major league hitters out. Gonsalves just moved into AAA
  19. The most logical candidate to get promoted, because he would give them the best probability to win. And he has outpitched fellow lefty Hector Santiago at AAA. I hope that someone else takes Colon's spot on the rotation next.
  20. Someone who is young enough, has not been recycled a few times, and comes from a long tradition of wining. Almost has to be external.
  21. I suspect that we are going to have this discussion any time they win a series... Important: Have they proven that they can win a series from the Astron, Red Sox, and Dodgers? All three teams that they will need to beat in the post-season? Can they "buy enough" to be even close to winning a series from these 3? No. Move on...
  22. I think that there is a disconnect with actually "Good" (which I think as "better than average") and "better than some of the rest of the Twins' relievers, like Breslow". 3.90 ERA, 4.91 FIP, 1.23 WHIP (.266 BABIP) , 12.8 % K-BB%, 79.3% LOB% Bosher's numbers this season. Not much "good" about them. Pretty average to below average, and about to regress. I don't have much problem with this dumpster diving, other than the facts that: a. it really has not been that productive at the major league level b. Too many of those types of players block younger players (eg. I'd rather see Melotakis rather than Buddy Bo with the Twins, and Romero rather than Melville with Rochester) c. Yes, some of them have potential (eg. Turley) that's why they are still playing baseball. Having potential and realizing at the majors are 2 different things.
  23. Good. About time that baseball starts to fine and suspend umpires, like it does with the rest of the participants. Glad to see the Teflon wearing away. Hopefully with the new CBA, umpires will be held accountable for what they do on the field. And if they don't like it, let them strike. The effect will be the same as that of their last strike
  24. Tonkin has proven that he can get out AAA hitters, but not MLB hitters. Same old with him. Dunno about Melville. To tell you the truth, I'd rather see what Turly and Busenitz can do in the pen than Melville... Garver is having an amazing season. Here are a few more 800+ OPS seasons by Red Wings' Catchers that should be mentioned: Chris Herrman hit .304/.373/.505 in 60 games (228 PA) in 2014 Dan Rohlfing hit .314/.402/.430 in 26 games (103 PA) in 2013 Jose Morales hit .336/.413/.436 in 58 games (242 PA) in 2009 Corky Miller hit .229/.379/.465 in 59 games (219 PA) in 2005
