  1. 3 plus WAR in their dreams, or in the past. After 103 games: Dozier 1.3 fWAR, projects to 2.0 fWAR for the season, Ervin Santana 1.1 fWAR, projects to 1.7 fWAR for the season They are 2 WAR players who are aging and getting worse. They both need to go.
  2. What "big arms"? Are we talking about the same Twins bullpen here?
  3. They can get that at AAA. Slegers will not survive major league pitching. He is a junk ball righty getting bats out on soft contact on junk. Good enough for AAA but not for the majors. Will be eaten alive in the majors.
  4. Gee last pitched on 7/26, so he is available as a long reliever/mop up man, in case one of the other Twins' starters messes up. Not a starter per se.
  5. This is about 3.5 months premature Lots of transactions until then and I suspect that some of the names in the list will not be with the Twins. BA called Gabriel Moya "arguably the most dominant reliever in the minors". To me he is automatic. Reed is kinda of a borderline guy. I'd put him behind Burdi and Bard at this point. And behind Curtiss and Moya. The previous administration loved him, but the decision makers will be different by then. Have to factor the upcoming changes in the FO, as well. That's why I am thinking that it is way too early to even think about this.
  6. This team needs a manager who comes from a winning tradition, does not accept losing and lights a fire underneath his players to win. Gardenhire did not do that. Molitor does not do that. Too much laughing and fun in the Twins' dugout, as fun as I am concerned, while the team lost 7 out of 10 and fell 8 games behind. Need someone who as a leader will not accept that while losing. Not sure who that is, but Molitor is not.
  7. I really do not understand the issue people are having with Enns, and why they think that his ceiling is that of a journeyman reliever. He did have injury set backs and was drafted out of College, so 26 is AAA is actually slightly below league average Career AAA: 21 G, 17 GS, 104-1/3 IP, 8-3, 87 K (7.5 K/9), 36 BB (3.1 BB/9), 2.07 ERA, 1.083 WHIP this season: 7 G, 7 GS, 39-1/3 IP, 1-1, 37 K (8.5 K/9), 10 BB (2.3 BB/9), 2.29 ERA, 1.017 WHIP Here is Berrios' career AAA numbers: 36 G, 36 GS, 229-2/3 IP, 19-8, 250 K (9.8 K/9), 61 BB (2.4 BB/9), 2.51 ERA, 0.980 WHIP Not a huge difference. Yes Berrios is younger, but this is not about age, it is about effectiveness. Enns is pretty much a MLB-ready starter with mid-end of rotation potential and 5+ seasons of team control. Pretty much what Garcia was, without the youth and team control.
  8. Based on what I have seen from Molitor (not what I would do) : Belisle until Perkins will be activated. For the ones who do not keep tabs, Perkins Pitched 2 shutout innings at the GCL, moved up to high A where he faced 5 batters, struck out 2, walked one, and allowed 2 hits and a run
  9. The Twins have 3 spots open on their 40-man roster. One more thing that they did by throwing the towel is that the negated any necessity of wasting an option year ( = burning a year of control for nothing) on prospects such as Gordon, Gonsalves etc. What I see them doing (not what I would do necessarily) : Reinstate Perkins as soon as his FB gets to 91-92, and hopefully hope that he pitches well so someone might bite in August (that's one spot) See if they can sell Colon, Santana, Dozier, Belisle in August Monitor that waiver wire (lots of DFAs the last couple days) and sign a couple of arms. Other than that, Pitchers on the 40-man (Enns, Gee, Gibson, Jorge, Romero, Rosario, Turley) will be it. Maybe a non-prospect like Slegers, but, really he is nothing special.
  10. Do you doubt the second part? Do not go far, just look at what Liam Hendriks, Anthony Swarzak, Brian Duensing, and Jeff Manship did after they left for nothing... And I should not even mention Pat Neshek and the way he was treated by the front office.
  11. Realistically, why should there be a stronger marker for an aging rental with one effective pitch (sinker,) a 3.68 FIP who struck out only 5.4 per 9 innings for the season? And in the second half, he has had a 6.00 ERA and 1.67 WHIP (even with a .280 BABIP). I think that the Twins made a killing here. Kintzler is just not that great. In a competitive team, he is a decent 7th inning pitcher, probably a notch or two worse than Matty Guerrier in his prime. In a competitive team, he will have the role that Belisle has for the Twins. Kintzler and the Twins lucked out by the circumstances, but there is nothing elite about him. And I hope that the Twins do not even think about re-signing him as their closer next season. They can do better.
  12. With the results they have had and esp. the way they played against Boston, Houston, and the Dodgers (all teams they need to beat to win this off-season), how can they not "give up"? Oh, they have to pass the Royals too.
  13. The Twins have a glut of middle infielders in the upper levels of the organization for both Dozier and one of Escobar/Adrianza to get traded and not drop a bit. The most logical step would be to have Polanco and whoever remains men 2B and SS for the rest of the season with someone like Goodrum (who has played every position on the field in AAA this season other than P of C) come up as a super utility. No sense and/or reason in burning an option on Gordon this season. Let him win a job next ST.
  14. Baseball America is a bit more conservative in their assessment of the Yankee's prospects. Littell sounds a lot like a Haley type (wasn't Haley ranked at that level by MLB.com last winter, as well?) and Enns sounds like a LOOGY. Who knows? The Twins had to do that trade. The fact that they "ate" $4M makes me think that they are not done and will recover that by other trade(s), be it Santana, Dozier etc. Kintzler will likely go, but his $ owed is negligible. Good beginning so far. They got 3 arms close to the majors. I suspect that we will see Enns sooner than later with the Twins
  15. Santana has started to return to earth. He is 34. He will continue to decline. His FIP is close to 5. The last month he has a 4.68 ERA, 1.400 WHIP, 6.5 K/9 and 2 K/BB. Opponents have a .865 OPS against him. That is Rickey Nolasco territory. Plus he is half a UCL and/or another drug conviction away from not pitching another game. If anyone is willing to offer anything of value for him, he has to go. Heck, if anyone offers anything for him he has to go. Romero will give the Twins better opportunity for winning games this season than Santana.
  16. And not without cause. It is their job to light some fire under the players. Like his predecessor, Molitor has failed to do that...
  17. If the Twins can get the guy that Baseball America called "arguably the most dominant relief prospect in the minors" for John Ryan Murphy, they should be able to get someone with a heartbeat for Hector Santiago. The Twins should do now, what they should had done last off-season: Trade Santana, Kintzler, and Dozier, as well as Garcia, for good young controllable pitching. Btw, not sure that the Twins were "wise" in not trading Dozier for DeLeon (if that were the trade offered.) DeLeon has higher probability in contributing for the Twins when their young core will be getting into their prime (2019-2020) than Dozier. Again, I don't get the lack of love for Rosario vs Buxton. If Buxton is still that highly regarded within the league, I'd love to see the Twins try to see what they can get for him. If they can get someone like Starling Marte, who is a gold glove centerfielder who can hit and steal bases now (unlike Buxton) and Felipe Rivero (who is probably the best young bullpen arm in baseball), they would be nuts if they do not do it, because it will improve the team now and in the future.
  18. Carrer OBP does not matter for prospects, because prospects "click" at some point. What the did the 3 seasons before they clicked does not matter. The point is that Granite now has a better OBP in AAA than Wade has in AA. Fact. Period. And there is no short season A (A-) in the Twins' system. How about throwing their high school and College numbers? (FWIW their college OBPs were practically identical .391 vs .394)
  19. The Twins are not looking for prospects who will help in 2-3 years. They are looking for pitchers who will help now and for 3+ years. The relative list (unordered) from the Yankees is: Montgomery, Smith, Cessa, Lail, German, Herrera, Green, Adams etc If any of those names (other than Adams) are not "mentioned", I am not buying it.
  20. Not really. Sulbaran brought Nunez who brought Mejia. I'd trade Buterrible for Mejia every day of the week.
  21. In chance you have not seen it, the Baseball America take on the trade is here. From their description of Mora: "The Diamondbacks signed Moya out of Venezuela in 2012. Five years later, he’s evolved into arguably the most dominant relief prospect in the minors. Moya is on an historic run, having not allowed an earned run since May 2 as Double-A Jackson’s closer. That’s a stretch of 24 appearances and 30.2 innings. The 6-foot, 175-pound lefthander does it with a deceptive low 90s fastball that looks like it pops out of his ear in his delivery and a plus-plus changeup regarded by many as the best in the Southern League this year. He also has a slider and curveball he can mix in to provide a different look, throws strikes and earns raves for his competitiveness. With deception, an out pitch, and a closer mentality, Moya is a perfect 17-for-17 in saves this year and has a chance to be in a big league bullpen shortly."
  22. Good trade. From Rauch for Mulvey to Palka for Herrmann, I cannot remember a trade with the Diamondbacks that actually was not good for the Twins
  23. To succeed in the post season the Twins do not need to beat Oakland. They will need to beat the likes of the Astros, Red Sox and Dodgers. And they have proven that they cannot win a series against those teams, neither at home nor on the road. The Twins are 20-30 against opponents with winning record. Even if they beat another horrible team this will not make them contenders.
  24. .293/.364/.446 21 year old Nick Gordon's line in AA .283/.351/.489 21 year old Buxton's line in AA. even more fun: .251/.336/ .527 22 year old Joe Benson's line in AA .271/.360/.454 22 year old Rene Tosoni's line in AA 21 and 22 year old numbers in AA do not really matter than much. What someone does in the majors matters. He could be another Benson or Tosoni, or will take a while to get adjusted maybe, like Buxton. Who knows?
