  1. This team is still some ways to go, and has a few fatal flaws: Need to reinvent the pen, need quality vs quantity in the rotation and need some LH power bats and a catcher. When you trade, you either have to sell high or get rid of someone with no or future in the team. And I don't think that Mauer or Nolasco are tradable at this point. Sell high candidates: Plouffe, Dozier (he regressed big time this season both in OBP and running stats), Perkins (maybe), Jepsen, E. Santana, Milone, Gibson, Buxton. Do not need candidates: Any reliever who pitched more than 3 innings this season and is not named May, Pressly or Graham (he will go to AAA), D. Santana, Nunez, Suzuki. This team should not have any untouchables other than Sano and maybe Polanco, everyone else should be available in the right trade. I'd trade Buxton for a young MLB-ready top-rated catcher (eg. d'Arnaud or Swihart) or shortstop (e.g. Correa or Lindor) in a heartbeat, for example.
  2. Why not Brian Harper instead?
  3. The Twins field staff deserve lots of credit for getting pretty much a team identical to 2014 and turning it around. Had Ryan addressed the bullpen and the lack of LH power at the deadline to give them a fighting chance, the Twins would have been in the post-season right now. He gets no credit for robbing his team from that by sitting on his rear end while everyone around him got better. Time to re-retire.
  4. He'd probably get some votes and does deserve 4th or 5th place or so. Bottom line: Toronto, Houston, Texas had better turn arounds from 2014 and all did make the post-season. Plus his boneheadedness to keep puting Perkins in close games after continual suckage in the second half, cost the Twins 3-4 games and, thus, the post-season.
  5. Higher likelihood for Plouffe to move behind the plate than for Mauer.
  6. Had the third higher fWAR in the team as far as pitchers are concerned, after May and Gibson
  7. Based on age (same), stuff, and success on pro baseball there is little that justifies Stewart over Gonsalves other than draft position and I'd argue that 3 years in the pros, that should not matter
  8. Been a while since I saw the words "Rivas" and "competent" in the same zip code 2010: Casilla 100 OPS+, Hudson 96 OPS+ and Hardy 96 OPS+ is close to the answer to the OP
  9. The tossing of sunflower seeds at players during TV interviews. Pretty moronic. Watch the game, not the interview. You are professionals.
  10. Because Perkins is part of that shortage?
  11. Yeah, Gardenhire has a long track record of a. wining world series (even if his team has both the CY and MVP winners) and b. dealing with "colorful" personalities in the clubhouse. I'd love to see Gardnehire manage there, just for the fun of it.
  12. Talk to Alex Meyer, Oswaldo Arcia & Jorge Polanco and ask them how do they feel being by-passed for the September call ups.
  13. That happens when a team does not meet expectations. I expect wholesale changes in the Nationals this off-season starting with the field staff. Williams lost his clubhouse. Don't have a text of what what said when in that clubhouse (especially what Harper said to Papelbon), other than what it was televised, so cannot have full opinion about who is at wrong (other than Williams) here. Harper should had ran that play out, it was fair and it could had dropped for a double potentially. I don't care who you are, you got to run those out. That said, fighting at the clubhouse like that is not a good thing.
  14. Kinda agree, but when you trade for young talent (Guzman) or perceived talent (Punto,) you don't have much of a need to draft and/or sign shortstops. After that, for some reason most of the SS they drafted and signed went on to play other positions. Polanco will likely be the first SS they signed who will go one to have a good MLB career as a SS.
  15. I guess Perkins' fans would care about what is better for Perkins rather than what is better for the Twins, which, of course, is to make the post-season To hey about what is better for Perkins at this point....
  16. Famous. Last. Words.
  17. In their respective roles, of course...
  18. I trust him less than I trust Brian Duensing, Neil Cotts and Ryan O'Rourke at this point. In other words, no.
  19. Too premature to speculate that Ryan will still be with the Twins when the off-season comes... Not winning since 1994 and many more wrong decisions than right, including hiring Gardenhire over Molitor in 2002, make his position fairly rocky... 20+ years of a Ryan-inspired and 15+ years of a Ryan-led front office are just enough...
  20. That was pretty close to a like post-season roster. Milone is hurt and I suspect out and done with. I suspect that Perkins will go to the DL shortly. Nolasco not on the 40-man and they need a spot (sorry Darnell) to get him there. Here is my take: 1. Hicks 2. Dozier 3. Mauer 4. Sano 5. Rosario 6. Plouffe 7. Hunter 8. Suzuki 9. Escobar Bench: Hermann Robinson Nunez Buxton That's 13 position players (with only 4 SPs they better go with 12 Ps) SP: Gibson SP: Duffey SP: Hughes SP: Pelfrey CL: Jepsen May Duensing Boyer Fien Cotts Nolasco O Rourke.
  21. The Royals have indicated that they have officially replaced him as a closer before he officially got hurt and I suspect that they do not count on him for 2016. I will have no issue with the Twins if they do the same. Will they?
  22. Yeah, that is a goofy ranking of Palacios between the 2 leagues. I bet the reason is 2 different writers and 2 different opinions...
