  1. Well, this history of success was been brief. Clearly, his peak was 2011-2013, with a pretty bad time for 5 seasons before that and a decline that started slower and is getting sharper the last 2 seasons... It is not this season. He is declining clearly and he will be 33 next season. Not getting any younger. With his salary as a decent mid-level reliever, which he could be, the Twins should think about doing that move right now. The other concern is that LHBs have been hitting .396/.429/.453 this whole season (i.e. even when he was "good") and .284/.324/.448 the whole last season, which makes me think that his stuff in not working against lefties any longer. And if you are a LHP, that is not a good situation to be.
  2. Good to see him throw 94, 95 yesterday, but he has been not average, not bad, but atrocious the second half: .351/.382/.658 Opponent's slash line, 7.16 ERA, 6.88 FIP, 1.78 WHIP If that were Tim Stauffer, Twins fans would want him ran out of town... (oh wait.) Don't get the differential treatment of Perkins by the Twins' fan base. Because he is Minnesotan? He sucked recently. Period. Minnesotan or Martian he is hurting this team. Lots to be concerned there, the least of which is that: a. he should not be trusted in high leverage situations and b. the Twins should be in the look out for another closer this off-season.
  3. Had Palacios at 36 in my off-season top 40 list. 7 ahead of him graduated, 2 were traded and few more had pretty bad seasons, so I think that he will be knocking on the top 20. His biggest issue before he came up North was his glove, but that is looking pretty ok these days...
  4. FWIW: The 3 of them were called that in the 1990 World Champion team. But Myers was the primary closer and when there was an opportunity or a righty loaded inning, Dibble closed. Charlton started the season in the rotation and as a lefty, he ended up as the primary set up man. Ended the season with 2 saves, half as many as Rich Mahler in that team. Dibble had 11 and Myers 31. Myers and Dibble switched roles in 1991 and Dibble was the closer. As a matter of fact Myers (and Charlton who was mainly a middle inning reliever then) spent a good portion of 1991 in the Reds' rotation. I think what is happening with the Twins is the realization that Perkins has issues with declining health and velocity and advancing age. I hope that the get a lights out closer in 2016 (and they may have one in their rotation - check Hughes' numbers as a reliever when with the Yankees.)
  5. Duffey really was not a strikeout pitcher until he went to Rochester the second half of last season. Maybe Mason should be getting some credit here... Not sure what happened but his FB increased by a couple mph when that jump happened. Another detail that should not be lost, is that he has pitched 185 innings this season (second to Gibson's 186 in the organization.) We shall see how he continues. I do like the fact that he is throwing his FB less than 60% of the time and his curveball more than 35% of the time. As long as hitters do not adjust to the CB, he might be alright. The issue with him was that he had been (as still is, as he has been throwing a change about 3% this season) a two pitch pony, and not sure whether that is sustainable for a starter. Pitch f/x does not like his curve for some reason. Good to see him succeed. Will be interesting to see what the future will hold. Still, I think that there are 3-4 better options under 28 years old for the Twins rotation in 2016 than Duffey (Gibson, May, Berrios, Meyer) plus there are Nolasco, Santana and Hughes (and I am not mentioning the single lefty in the SP equation) Hard to see him break the Twins' rotation next season. Definitely a trade high probability...
  6. That is Ryan's MO: Get rid of people when their value bottoms down. Cannot remember the last time he sold high on an MLB-level player. Maybe Pierzynski
  7. Because they are part of the shortage
  8. Hitting .250 I see Thursday's game is on the closer who did not do his job and sucked.
  9. Re: Kepler and first base: He has been playing first base since 2011 IIRC... Not a recent development. Few seasons he played in teams with Kennys Vargas, DJ Hicks and Rory Rhodes (remember him?) so he did not have much chance to play first in those seasons.
  10. That really makes me question the last time Law saw Kepler play Center (or saw what Kepler looks like period.) On the other hand, a certain manager played Parmelee in Center...
  11. No such a thing as a bad fan Even people who go to baseball games for the food etc and chitchatting all the time and don't even know what is going on and don't even watch anything that is going on and some ended getting hit by objects are not bad fans. They are not fans. Even the ones who do not care whether the Twins win or lose, but just like going out and watching baseball and there are glad there is baseball in the Cities are not bad fans. They are baseball fans, not Twins' fans and would probably be happier watching the Saints or the "U", because the atmosphere there is probably more to their liking (i.e. non-competitive.) You are a fan Oh. I amend this. There are bad Twins fans: The ones who are rooting for other AL Central teams in the postseason (every KC or DET, or SUX or CLE win = more $ for them = better players for them etc). Maybe not bad fans. Just uninformed.
  12. Pretty sure that Seth had one a couple days ago. Got to check
  13. And Kepler and Polanco are still in the minors, instead of been available as PHs. Justify this, while the Twins are contending.
  14. Robert actually; not Roberto. And the 18 year old is Venezuelan and not Puerto Rican like the Molina brothers...
  15. Sure you have Shooter Hunt topped that number
  16. That is an interesting one. Yes they do have to play first for the division. However, the loser of that game, will have a worst record than the Twins after that game

    Big Papi

Hold it. Lots of mistakes in Ryan's career. Matter of fact, this season might be proof that hiring Gardenhire over Molitor in 2002 might had been even bigger than getting rid of Ortiz so he could retain LeCroy. And nothing bigger than castrating this team in the late 1990s, so Pohlad could move it or contract it under the eyes of disinterested locals.
  18. Old news Too bad Gardenhire and Ryan decided to do their own thing last season and Ryan continued the practice for half a season this season.
  19. Not bashing Mauer by any means. Bashing Reusse by all means: a. The last 28 days Mauer is having a .373 OBP but a .717 OPS. The last 28 days Mauer is having six (6) extra base hits. Not quite number 3 hitter numbers now, are they? Glad that Mauer is getting on base, but he should either be bumped up to 2 with Sano at 3 or start being a bit more aggressive with the stick. This is an obvious thing and Reusse obviously misses it. b. He decides for some reason to bash Sano in that writeup. Mercy!
  20. I'd give up Perkins straight up. Win win for both teams.
  21. I see no reason that Kepler and Polanco are in the minors for 2 weeks, while they can help the Twins in a post-season run. Minor leagues are developmental leagues and the Twins should care more about what their team does in the bigs than what Chatanooga does in AA. Pretty outrageous.
  22. few comments on this: a. Early in the season TR Sold Dan Rohlfing for cash to the Mets to further deplete C depth at the high levels of the organization b. To the ones who are talking about Turner and his potential as a catcher for the Twins: Son of Sal is Johnny Bench with the bat compared to him, and Chris Herrmann is Babe Ruth. Turner has been digressing every single year with the stick. Currently .628 OPS at AA. Please. Herrmann is a career .752 OPS AA hitter and you see how he is in the majors (but he needs to play more than he does.) c. I'd rather see them bring Pinto up and see what he can do. He had 5 hits in his last 3 games with Rochester. It is inane that he is not with the Twins right now. d. I had enough of Suzuki this season. Hope the Twins move on before next season.
  23. Wieters has a bit of Hicks' disease. This season he has .778 OPS against LHPs and .638 against RHPs; and career .826 vs LHPs and .707 vs RHPs. I think that a 3 year contract at $13M per might be what he is worth, but he will be looking for McCann $ who signed a 5 year, $85M at the same age as Wieters is now. Not my money, but not worth it. Speaking of McCann, the Twins might want to look seriously in his backup (who is blocked,) 24 year old former second round pick, JR Murphy or even 22 year old Gary Sanchez, their AAA starter who will be a monster. I think that a trade with Plouffe for Sanchez as the core, plus others potentially for relievers from the Yankees (Wilking Rodríguez is a name to remember) might be more in the Twins' interest.
  24. Data: Shields is a year older 2015 James Shields: 4.40 FIP, 3.66 xFIP, 15.8% K% (and some of them opposing SPs), 1.278 normalized WHIP (for .290 BABIP), all pitches -1 mph+ from 2014 2015 Ricky Nolasco: 2.84 FIP, 4.05 xFIP, 18.8% K%, 1.214 normalized WHIP, same velo since 2011 Sorry: a. I'd rather have Berrios or Meyer than Shields and Nolasco. If they can trade Nolasco for a non-pitcher, I am all for it. b. I think that Nolasco might actually have a better 2016 than Shields based on the above indicators.
