  1. You got the wrong numbers Here: KC now (after the July trades): at $131.3 M Twins now $107.2 M As is, is at 30%. Add the $ they did not pay Santana because of doping and the money they got back from insurance for Nolasco, and that number drops under $95 M or so. On those pages, check the estimated payrolls for 2016: KC is 40% higher than the Twins... I did not make up those numbers, but someone seems to be making up excuses...
  2. Somewhere between Gene Larkin and Marty Cordova (both are decent comparables, btw) 15-20. Unless he changes his approach like Dozier did, which will likely add 10 HRs but subtract 25-50 points from his BA
  3. Could not see the second video but the first one, is right on the money. He waits like a statue until the ball is 20 feet ahead and realizes that he has to dive. Actually more like fall forward than dive. Lots of diving catches at the OF are because of ball misjudgement... It was a lazy fly ball, not a screaming line drive.
  4. Have you seen Kepler play the OF recently? There is a reason he moved to 1B. He is pretty Arciaesque.
  5. Hicks threw 94 mph as a P in high school. He has an arm.
  6. I really do not think that group A is that much worse or better than group B. Hughes had an above average season, so did Suzuki (who is missing) and Ryan in his infinite wisdom decided that they were not outliers and extended them. Give me a single impact player who Ryan traded for or signed, while he was an impact player. To make it easy: Give me a single player that Ryan traded for during or signed after an All Star season. In 16 years of running the Twins. Ryan has 3 big problems as a GM: 1: He is a spendthrift: If he has $45 million to spend, he would rather spend it on 4 players of average/above average quality, instead of 2 All Start players. Look at the rotation for example. 2: He is a horder of prospects: Will never trade high prospects for high performing major leaguers. And he loves his prospect that much, that he'd rather have them "mature" in the minors, instead of having them in the bigs. 3: He is a dumpster diver: Every season will go through the waiver wire and try to fill the team with rejects during ST, hoping that someone might approach average and sticks, so he gets "value" In one sentence: Ryan is looking for average and not great, and if you are not looking for great, you will never be great. That's why he has to go.
  7. Rosario is not playing over his head. Regard his 2014 season (other than the AFL part) as a waste. Surprised a bit by the HR power, but he is 23, so he is developing. He will not walk, and he strikes out more than usually, but he does not get many fastballs, like he did in the minors. He has been a .300 hitter most of his career and he will do that in the majors. Lots like Ben Revere type of a player, with less speed and glove but more pop and better arm. Somewhat like a Denard Span with better contact tool and similar concentration lapses. You are looking at a .300/.350/.480 type of player with 15 HR and 20+ SB in a good full season. Remember, he was a perennial Twins' top 10 prospect and BP had him as high as 60 in baseball before 2014. His stock dropped by the move to the OF (that slash line above makes a good OF, but an All-Star second baseman) and by the suspension. After 2013, I had ranked him as the Twins' 4th best prospect (behind Sano, Buxton and Meyer.) As far as that OF goes (Rosario, Buxton, Hicks,) I see 2 issues: One is obvious: Buxton may or may not arrive. Has good size holes in his hitting game, and he needs to fix them. The other is not that obvious: This team sorely needs some LH power. Corner infield positions are pretty much taken for the foreseeable future. So opportunities for LH power (and I am talking 30 HR power) are at DH and corner OF. In the organization only Arcia and Vargas have such power (Kepler has doubles power;) on the other hand you have Sano, Mauer and Plouffe in some combination of 3B, 1B and DH. Lefties have a .661 OPS against RHPs and .658 OPS against LHPs. This is a problem that has to be fixed and I don't see many places other than the OF to fix it...
  8. Figuring out who is the best RH relief option other than May, is akin to figuring out which slow and painful death you prefer...
  9. There are no playoffs in baseball (unless two teams are tied at the end of the season and have to have a playoff game or more to determine who goes to the post-season.) You have Ryan's quote up there: His expectations are to make it to the post-season. If the Twins do not, he does not meat expectations, so there is not way it can be a success. Can spin it as a "success", but...
  10. Hope not. Unless you like statistics when they support your argument Nothing to see here: Perkins opened mouth and inserted size 11 cleat, making clear that he had a personal and not a performance issue with Pinto last season... If he changed his mind about the metric (heck, stuff happens,) he owns an apology to Pinto for the bus tire marks... But I suspect that he didn't...
  11. Agree, other than the "small market" payroll, which has been the perennial TR excuse. KC is a much smaller market. Their payroll is 30-50% higher than the Twins'. Unacceptable. And I don't mean go throw money away, (because TR is really good at that in a. extending mediocre players - Capps, Suzuki are the latest examples and b. spendthrifting i.e. spending $45 million a season to get 3 average/above average instead of 2 star players - look at the Twins rotation for example.)
  12. Give him a week or 2 to shake the cobwebs and bring him up. Best choice the Twins have in that position this season.
  13. That's pretty even and can happen, but Ryan needs to be subtracted and a GM with half a brain needs to be added.
  14. Sell high. I am the minority here, but I think that Buxton's value is probably as high as it can be...
  15. They should re-sign Hunter, as much as they should re-sign Robinson and Boyer.
  16. Ryan should had sell high on D. Santana last off-season. That birdy flew... Unless you are talking about the cheater
  17. Too much. And I really don't think much of Plawecki. I'd trade Buxton for d'Arnaud straight up though, and if the Mets were interested in flipping one of their young starters for any Pitcher in the Twins' 40-man rotation who makes more than league minimum in that trade, I won't say no...
  18. The Twins traded Dallas Gallant to the Rangers for (not Johnny) Cash. With a name like that, you got to aspire to play there...
  19. Sub Austin Hedges for Norris and add a couple of Lirianos (Elvin and Rymer) and this deal might begin to make sense for the Twins. Or add one Liriano and throw in Santana.
  20. Thankfully, there is data for this, and the data suggests that this was not the issue last season. He mashed fastballs. This season he had an issue. We shall see what happens next season
  21. Hopefully this will be the offseason where Terry Ryan is finally held accountable and loses his job...
  22. He had 3 games as rehab. He is not injured. They optioned him after the rehab (not sure if he said no no no) Bigger fish to fry for the Twins than a guy who may have a bright future but cannot hit his weight in the majors...
  23. Buxton cannot hit a AA curve ball. Trying to hit an MLB curve ball is an exercise in futility. He needs to have a coach who sits him and makes him have his bat in his shoulder to see every pitch and get the rotation. Cannot afford to do that in the majors. Team needs to win ballgames.
  24. Nope. Butera still cannot hit Buxton has a serious problem with breaking balls and until he learns how to hit them, he is better served learning in the minors. Arcia on the other hand...
