  1. Ryan is part of the problem. The root cause of the problem is the country club mentality of the ownership that even allowed him to be part of the problem. Ryan retired right before the off-season he had to deal with Johan Santana and Torii Hunter and after his team that had the MVP, and Cy Young winners went belly up in the post-season saying that "the game has passed him by". If Pohlad does not care about a winning team, he should sell to someone who does. Otherwise the next new big addition next season will be the cheesesteak margarita at Hrbeks for $39.99 plus tax. Enjoy
  2. The Twins do not need to turn any rocks. The have a catcher with a career 118 OPS+ in the majors who (finally) is healthy, got 7 rehab games under his belt, and should be joining them ASAP as their starter. And Polanco should be their starting SS in 2016.
  3. I think that part of the reason here is about drawing the line at a point that you say this FO has had about 20 seasons of tomorrows (since 1995) that they have proven that they cannot make it happen "tomorrow". Some of us would say that it was about 10 seasons too many... But they have had their chance and they blew it.
  4. How do you count average? I don't disagree about the rest, but Mauer has an OPS+ of 95, which is "average" within the error margin (albeit his contract is much above average), and Nolasco got hurt and pitched only 7 games, while having a (much) above average 2.80 FIP. The rest, yeah, but we knew it when those signings and extensions happened. I'd add Perkins to the fire too. The Twins are tied to him for another 2-3 seasons, he is the wrong size of 30, and reached his peak 2 seasons ago...
  5. You cannot judge the FO on future scenarios It is 'what have you done for me lately", and for the Twins the "lately" has been since 1992. Look at Boston for example. Look at the Tigers for example. This is how winning franchises deal when expectations are not met.
  6. Here is the problem with this: You think that a team that might be a .480-.500 team, until it is not. When you find yourself 32-21 on June 4, as a GM, you have to really grab the opportunity by the hair and go all out and improve your team to sustain this, because, those things have not happened for a while, and you don't know when they will happen again. Ryan did not seize the opportunity. And at that point, the expectations of the fan base were that he would. But he didn't. Unlike Houston and the Mets (pretty much at the same boat as the Twins to begin the season.) That is the problem. A good GM, like a good airliner pilot, is not tested flying on the autopilot, he/she is tested when things don't go the way they seem to go. And what Ryan did (or did not) do, took this team to a nosedive
  7. Got a couple simple questions for everyone who is defending Terry Ryan: Rewind to June 16th. The Twins were 34-30, after losing 9 out of 11, and ask yourselves: Did at that point Ryan had the best 25 men in the organization playing for the Twins? How about last week, in that bullpen game: Why have the hottest pitcher in the organization (Berrios) pitch at Rochester, while burn 5 arms in MN? 2 days ago: The Yankees burned their bullpen after the accident, and what did Cashman do? He got a couple of fresh arms from AAA. When was the last time that Ryan did something like this? Simple stuff. And I am not even going to talk about improving the team. Just get the best 25, 5, and 9 up and playing would do wonders for this team. For some reason it seams that Ryan refuses to accept this concept...
  8. Hopefully he comes back and pitches a few good games, so his value is higher when they trade him this off-season. Either: He had no business pitching if he knew that he was getting his team into trouble Or: His manager and GM knew of the issue and still chose to a. do nothing in the deadline while competing and b. still getting him out there to pitch awful appearance after awful appearance. Hard not to blame someone here, since this was a major contributor from a +3 to a -4 in the wild card race, and likely threw them out of the post-season for good...
  9. 8.10 ERA 7.80 FIP 2.100 WHIP .383/.420/.702 Opponent slash line (that's 1.122 OPS) Perkins in the second half. Please feel free to defend any of these... *as far as that "shinning light" goes, Perkins seems more and more like a polished .....
  10. Terry Ryan watching his team after the All Star break: http://www.ruthlessreviews.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/portlandiaLAME.png
  11. I see a picture of the elephant in the room, but unfortunately not a mention... What looks, smells and pitches like an elephant? Perkins' second half numbers: 8.10 ERA 7.80 FIP 2.100 WHIP and here is the kicker: .383/.420/.702 Opponent slash line (yes, that .702 is SLG and not OPS...) These not only make Matt Capps seem like a Cy Young candidate, but are worse than Tim Stauffer's. And we all know where we wanted Tim Stauffer to go. Time for Molitor to find a guy who can close the door, because Perkins cannot really do it any more for some reason and Terry Ryan declined to address the situation and get an effective closer by the deadline. This team is competing, and better be managed as such.
  12. Has anyone noticed the Twins record against RHSPs and the team OPS and SLG against RHPs? LH power is a huge issue with this team. Really not sure how much power Kepler will develop. At this point, he is having a breakthrough season, but it is doubles power with only 8 HRs. He could develop power. I think that the Twins should flip a coin between him and Arcia and keep one and trade the other. Kepler has the higher value right now of the 2, so he likely should be the one who goes.
  13. More like he does not deserve to be treated as #1
  14. The irritating thing about this, is that Ryan as a GM does not have the best 5 starters starting. I would care less if the Twins were not competing, but since they are competing, there is no excuse not to have the best 25, 5, 9 in the game. Period. That, and the fact that he did nothing and has been doing nothing to improve this team should cost him his job, if the Twins do not make it far into the post season.
  15. Perennial All Star Catcher, in the Gary Carter mold, who in his prime will be approaching his AA and AAA numbers in the majors. (The Mets' ballpark is a pitcher's park, if interested in his MLB numbers, check OPS+)
  16. Give it a year or three to proclaim success 2 starts. 6.75 ERA, 6.99 FIP. Doesn't smell like a total success here. Joe Nathan after his first 2 career starts (15 IP) was 2-0 with an 1.20 ERA. Glen Perkins was 0-1 and 3.75 ERA (12 IP) after his first 2 starts, for example.
  17. They are really really hurting at the LHSP department, so they would need to look at them closer.
  18. 4.35 FIP, 12.3 % K%, 7.4 % BB%. No thank you. Either way. If the Twins are competing, they cannot deal with that. If they are not, they should look at the future.
  19. I saw him trying to hit live curveballs, about 100 reps. Other than a single season at A, he did not break .300 for batting average. 2 trips at the AFL against top pitching talent, .610 and .692 OPS. MLB .501 OPS (I know SSS, but compare what he did to Sano and Polanco.) No, I am not convinced about his hit tool. Not harsh, just realistic. Regressed a lot the past 2 seasons.
  20. should had said, "duh no" Still, I see Buxton as a 3 tool player (speed, d, arm) who might only hit fastballs and has trouble being healthy.
  21. Not quite terrible, but has career worst in BA, OBP, SLG, OPS, wOBA, wRC+, K%...
  22. I'd trade Buxton for d'Arnaud in a heartbeat.
  23. Harrison, Hicks (DJ,) Walker, Michael Corey Williams (needs innings,) Chargois, Lee, Wheeler
  24. Beer man?
