  1. Cage match with Berrios. Should be fun...
  2. Some of us think that managing the Tigers, White Sox, Royals or Indians would be a better place for him
  3. Todd Helton and a guy named Bert Blyleven were #55s as well. Some players pan out and some do not, but part of the issue here is that the Twins have been scouting Boyd for years. He is from Fort Myers. For this one, yes, they should have known better and checked into what he does outside of the diamond. They had people on the ground...
  4. Some of us thought pretty highly of Tyler Grimes when he turned into a catcher, like Mitch Garver Grimes was drafted in that season and retired.
  5. Hold onto your horses Brayan Pena hit .295/.347/.353 in 98 games against RHPs last season, which is better than decent. I'd take that every day as the guy who is facing righties in a platoon with Pinto (hopefully) or Suzuki.
  6. Sounds like Gardenhire was offered the Padres' bench coach job; nothing official yet.
  7. According to the official Kernels' transactions. Another former 1st rounder just cannot make it. Details here.
  8. Indeed. But hard to pry him from the Rangers If you are talking about Terry, that Ryan would not look good in that Role. They need someone who won something and has proven himself. TR has done neither. Part of the Twins' problem is inbreeding. They need to go outside the organization and get a proven winner. Joe Torre would be perfect for something like this...
  9. There is a root cause for that: mechanics. Stewart had horrible mechanics even before he was drafted. That was not news. The problem is that after 3 seasons as a pro, he has not been able to fix his mechanics. His FB velo was up to 97 allegedly at HS.
  10. How many dumpsters down the street from you?
  11. Bob. Gibson; correct?
  12. You do realize that Benoit will be 39 next July and very likely will be a free agent (Padres will not pick his $8M option,) I hope Norris is an interesting situation, because he is blocking Padres' uber-prospect Austin Hedges, but the Padres have Jedd Gyorko & Cory Spangenberg in middle infield in the majors (both young former top 100 prospects), have Benji Gonzalez as a young MIF/UT bat at AAA, former Twin Yangervis Solarte at third, but better as a super-utility, and 26 year old Alexi Amarista as a super-utility player in the majors right now. So middle infield is not something that the need and Santana would be like 6th in their depth chart...
  13. No Way. He is already doing PR for one of the Dakota States
  14. How many World Series rings does Shapiro have? How do you measure success?
  15. Ted Williams? The headless horseman
  16. So... whose fault is that the Twins have not even been close to a World Series since Terry Ryan became the General Manager, if it is not Ryan's? ("luck" and "nobody" don't cut it)
  17. LeCroy. Not Lucroy. Much more appropriate for the reunion.
  18. I don't know whether OPS+ adjusts well enough for Morneau in this case. Outside of Coors 2015: .242/.308/.358 (yes that's a .666 OPS) And if that's not good enough to say NO, "not good enough" Oswaldo Arcia hit .276 /.338/ .379 in the majors in 2015. Would be inane to sign Morneau (but the same GM signed Guerrier, Kubel, Bartlett and Hunter, so I am not holding my breath...)
  19. For a lot of those kids, if they are not going to make it to the MLB, Chattanooga, TN is a bit more palatable place to be in April than Rochester NY. Hunter retired or not, the Twins will have numbers issues at the OF again this season, even if they do not sign or re-sign any MiLB FAs (and they will...)
  20. Platooning those two is pretty impossible, since both are righties. Sharing time at catcher can happen, but I don't think that either will hit as well as Pinto at this point. Ramos does bring some defense with him. Nothing respectable about Suzuki. He is on the bottom 20% of the league's catchers pretty much in any category.
  21. Have you checked the Division they are in?
  22. Dayton Moore has gotten his team to two World Series back to back Terry Ryan has never gotten his team even close to a World Series Fact. Do you want to argue that Terry Ryan has not gotten his team to the same place Dayton Moore got his? Really?
  23. The point is Ryan has not gotten to the same place Dayton Moore is. Never. And it is because of dumpster diving Here are all the free agents that Terry Ryan signed or selected from waivers after the 2001 to during the 2006 season (allegedly when the Twins' were "sustainable competitive") " David Lamb, Kurt Abbott, Brian Meadows, Michael Jackson, Alex Prieto, David Lee, Scott Randall, Warren Morris, Saul Rivera, Mike Trombley, Garrett Jones, Jose Rodriguez, David Manning, Mike Duvall, Ben Ford, David Lamb, Carlos Pulido, Everett Stull, Chris Gomez, Jose Cabrera, Shane Andrews, Mike Fetters, Kenny Rogers, James Baldwin, Ryan McGuire, Seth Greisinger, Matt Guerrier, Chris Heitz, Greg Halman, Augie Ojeda, Peter Munro, Henry Blanco, Kevin Tolar, Aaron Fultz ,Juan Diaz, Rick Helling , Brian Simmons,Jose Offerman, Andrew Lorraine, Sean Douglass, Terry Mulholland, Todd Dunwoody, Gary Glover, Corky Miller, Jason Tyner, Gil Velazquez, Juan Castro, Mike Redmond,Bud Smith, Glenn Williams, Trey Hodges, Luis Jimenez, Pat Strange, Brent Abernathy, Andy Fox, Eric Munson, C.J. Nitkowski, Jimmy Anderson, Jason Pridie, Tony Batista, Jason Hart, Andres Torres, Shawn Wooten, Rondell White, Ryan Glynn, Peter Munro, Tim Raines , Ruben Sierra, Dennys Reyes, Steve Lomasney, Donaldo Mendez, Erubiel Durazo, Quinton McCracken Don't know what you call it, but for me it is the definition of Dumpster Diving.
  24. Jeff Luhnow, Dayton Moore, Jon Daniels AL Sandy Alderson, Jed Hoyer NL
  25. The last 2 years the Royals did trade prospects to close holes. Something that this Twins' GM has refused to do. That's what changed. Not the years and years of drafting high. They were drafting high every season since the late 80s... So that 30 some years of building through the draft came into fruition only when they brought in solid major leaguers instead of Ryanesque dumpster diving.
