  1. I had to check it out, just out of curiosity: Last season Palka hit 29 HRs and stole 24 bases. Do you remember the last Twins' minor leaguer who stole 24 or more bases and hit 29 or more HRs in the same season?
  2. Stays with the same team but will wear a Twins' jersey.
  3. So Sano will have exactly as much OF experience this winter as any Catcher and Pitcher who is not pitching that day: snagging fly balls at the OF during BP Zero % of Sano playing the OF in 2016, unless he actually plays some in the Spring... The last thing you want is to have him collide with someone or twist a knee out there.
  4. He was in his second full pro season and has exactly the development path (same levels) with Walker who was drafted on the same round a season before Palko. Interestingly, they are both in the AFL right now...
  5. Not sure about Hemingway, but Terry Steinbach is pretty available...
  6. Unless I am missing something, something is missing here a. Plouffe is from LA (Encino, which is Northern Valley, but still) b. Taylor Featherston is on the top of the Angels' 3B depth chart right now. 1+1 = ? can they get someone like Trevor Gott & Chris O'Grady? Hope so. I'd do that trade...
  7. no no no no no. Not "Forbes". That is like getting a STrib blog commenter quote and call it "Strib" Forbes has "contributors" (like this here site has "blogs".,) Here are the contributions of the young gentleman who wrote the linked piece. As you can tell, he is a sports' generalist. Grain of salt
  8. Who is that? All the Twins' OFs had less than 99 OPS+, which means that they were average hitters, and since that includes MIFs, less than average OFs with the stick.
  9. Especially a left hitting one, because Sano and Park (and Plouffe) back to back, is a dream for a RHRP with a hard slider. Word of caution about the home runs: Tommy Milone would have been throwing heat in Korea. Average fastballs are 85-86 mph. Some of the videos have velocities in kph. 140 is 86 mph, for reference...
  10. That's not just Souhan, that's Souhan being the Twins' mouthpiece, a job he has done plenty in the past (esp. regarding throwing players under the bus.) That's exactly what Ryan said. They cannot go out and say that they now have to trade Plouffe, because that will drop his value. So, just don't believe everything they say. Simple.
  11. To look at park factors, you have to look at the whole team pitching k/9 home vs away. Here is it (total team) home/away for the last 10 years: 2015: 7.0/7.7 2014: 7.4/7.9 2013: 7.2/7.4 2012: 6.7/7.2 2011: 7.4/7.0 2010: 6.9/6.5 2009: 7.1/6.9 2008: 6.6/6.7 2007: 6.2/6.7 2006: 5.9/6.6 Looks like it might be a tad higher away, but is it within standard deviation? Maybe. And we are talking about a strikeout every 3-4 games difference...
  12. Yoenis Cespedes took an Ace (Jon Lester) plus a usable OF (Gomes) - The Twins have nothing equivalent Donaldson took a current top 100 MLB prospect (Barreto) and a productive MLB player who was former top 40 prospect (Lowrie) Think Berrios and Hicks in equivalent terms (but Lowrie has been more productive than Hicks) Addison Russell was a minor league prospect who was traded for 2 established top/middle rotation starters (Samardzija and Hammel) - different type of a trade, like the Twins trading Buxton for two of the Mets' starters (I'd do that in a heartbeat btw ) The A's got a lot back... The A's got really good returns
  13. This is totally correct. It happens some day. At age 22 (like Harrison was last season) Dozier had zero HRs. Dozier broke through at age 26. (Actually his change of approach happened the previous season 2012 when at AAA) Plouffe was a different story. 9 HRs at age 22. What Harrison does better than either of these 2 guys is walk. He is walking at a 14% clip, which is pretty nice. He will get there, just needs some time
  14. Got to add: Andrew Albers, Scott Baker, Grant Balfour, Joe Beimel, Kevin Correia, Deolis Guerra, LaTroy Hawkins, Edgar Ibarra, Garrett Jones, Kyle Lohse, Jason Marquis, Peter Moylan, Steve Pearce, Yohan Pino, Alex Presley, Jason Pridie, Sergio Santos, Jordan Schafer, Tim Stauffer, Anthony Swarzak, Steve Tolleson to the list of former Twins who signed with another team after they left the Twins and are currently free agents... More (as MiLB FAs will be coming this week...)
  15. No. A former first round draft pick. Still he is better than Stuart Turner (same age, same level) who was rated at #14...
  16. Famous last words He just needs one breakout season; before this season, he was head in head with Kepler in my book. Kepler had his.
  17. Agreed. Speaking of old school, here are the K% leaders of the 1987 Twins: Billy Beane 40.0 % Tim Laudner 25.2 % Don Baylor 20.7 % Tom Nieto 19.8 % Greg Gagne 17.5 % Tom Brunansky 16.9 % Mark Davidson 15.4 % Roy Smalley 14.9 % Dan Gladden 14.9 % Not sure what Mark Davidson has been doing (Gags was coaching High School for a while), but looks like high K% back then would get you at least a coaching or a manager position these days, potentially a GM (if you suck enough) but certainly a broadcaster job (*from the department or irrelevant statistics)
  18. The one thing that the Twins should had learned from 2014 should had been not to put catchers, shortstops, infielders, first basemen etc at the outfield. I thought that that concept was dead and done when Gardy was shown the door. That comment about Sano at OF makes sense only under one scenario: It is Ryan's/Molitor's way of publicly saying "we don't have to trade Plouffe" to try to get as much as they can for him. If that's the case, more power to them, if not...
  19. Shoot.Me.Now Especially if it costs them someone at the Rule 5 draft. At this point Danny Ortiz has a similar skillset in case of an emergency, and there are 5 (plus Walker likely) OFs on the 40-man roster already.
  20. Here is a link to a video of a recent interview with TR, plus certain quotes from it, including the Catcher situation.
  21. Gardy would look really good being the head coach in a semi-competitive college, where he can bring his buddies, Andy and Scotty as pitching and hitting coaches and having a couple cold ones during the game. That's the kind of country club environment the Twins provided for him. He'd enjoy it and the college would enjoy having him and his buddies. Retirement stuff in other words. For the last 10 years plus, I have been scrutinizing his skill set as a manager. What does he bring to the table? I cannot find anything. Competitiveness? Please. Communication with players? Please (Lohse, Garza, Gomez etc.) Building a climate of merit where the best play? Please. I just cannot find anything that he brings to the table. What is his skillset that differentiates him? All I can see all those years was one thing: Entitlement. Not many places are going to hire you, if that's the only thing he brings in the organization (and "experience".)
  22. Interesting. I just finished analyzing all 20 free agent catchers to see who is the best fit for the Twins, and Wieters was a finalist. For one I think that it will take less $ to sign (esp. since there is a pick to go.) I think that a 4/48 is probably the baseline here. In a kind of ironic way, if the Twins were not competing next season, and were looking to build for the next 4 seasons, Wieters might be the guy, even though it definitely is a higher risk/high reward situation and someone might be getting a bargain here. The Twins do need the $ to address the biggest issue in 2015 and that was the bullpen. Catcher, yes, is an issues, but they can do ok without Wieters. So Wieters was not my choice either, but for different reasons...
  23. Ausmus did not do that fine in 2014...
  24. I thought he was last month. Could be wrong.
