  1. Interesting question, so I went back: Technically in 1996 he signed Aquilera to a 4 year contract the off-season after he traded him to Boston. In 1997 he signed Greg Swindell for 2 years in 1999 he signed Bob Wells for 2 years and signed him again for another 2 in 2001, after traded him to the WSox in 2000. In 2004 he signed Terry Mulholland to 2 years So 2 years is as high as he goes externally. And the norm is 2-3 years for relievers these days...
  2. Why would you want Lee and Reetz? Reetz would be about 5th in the Twins' catching prospect list and Lee is not a prospect. Plus the $ is not balanced. Plouffe + Milone is a few mil more than Storen. And I don't get why the Nats (or anyone else) might want Milone
  3. Got to add Duensing to balance that trade
  4. Give it 2-3 years and we shall see how this trade would look. 2 seasons ago the Revere trade looked pretty bad. Not so after last season... Give it time.
  5. Dean is not a RHRP. The Twins have > 10 RHRPs ahead of Zack Jones. The Twins have maybe 2-3 LHSPs ahead of Dean
  6. Nah. That's a depth chart. They would not have added Cole Johnson before Zack Jones, but he is more MLB-ready than Zack Jones...
  7. Numbers game. Here are the RHRP who the Twins see ahead of Jones. Above the dotted line are pitchers on the 40 man roster. Kevin Jespen (30) Trevor May (25) Alex Meyer (25) Ryan Pressly (26) JR Graham (25) Michael Tonkin (25) JT Chargois (24) ---- Cole Johnson (26) Jake Reed (22) Nick Burdi (22) Brandon Peterson (23) And this does not include LHRP or minor league starters (or even Nolasco) who can be on the Twins' pen Could they had traded him for something last season? Maybe. If there is an issue, this should be the one. Ryan is allergic to trading prospects who he ends up losing...
  8. Want fun? Flip lefties: Plouffe and Perkins for Storen and Felipe Rivero. Fair and square and you solve another problem...
  9. In that clubhouse, not agreeing with that management, might make you a "good" clubhouse guy...
  10. Did you add the $12.85 M posting fee?
  11. ok I hear you. But how the hey do they extend an offer to Nunez, if that's what they are thinking? And not sure that Beresford > Nunez at this point
  12. Looks like the Twins signed a free agent today...
  13. Not sure about his golf game, but the Twins have as many (if not more, because of the CF situation) holes as they had in October...
  14. Rewind to 1987. Do you know what was the biggest difference in the 1987 team compared to the 1986 team? (Matter of fact the team had an 103 OPS+ in 1986 and 97 OPS+ in 1987; and a 4.52 SP ERA in 86 vs a 4.47 in 87.) Guess what changed?
  15. Looks like the Twins traded Logan Darnell and Jeff Wheeler to the Yankees for LHP Justin Wilson. Nope. The Tigers traded RHPs Louis Cessa and Chad Green for him. (They were the Tigers' 6th and 19th prospects according to MLB.com, and I'd probably add 10 or so to those numbers for equivalency in the Twins' system...) Another hard throwing pitcher in the Tigers pen, instead of the Twins'... Cannot imagine how Terry Ryan could not better that trade, for a guy who fits his main goal to a T.
  16. I think that most Twins fans realize that both Harper and Mack were major contributors, at least in 1991 and they are in high regard. The one guy who when left from that core, the Twins fell apart, was Chili Davis. I don't think that many people put Chili up there, but in 1991 and 1992 he was up there with Kirby and Mack. And much bigger contributor than Hrbek in those 2 seasons. So he would get my most underrated vote as far as a position player goes. On the pitching side has to be Jeff Reardon. Reardon did more for the Twins in 1987 than Morris did in 1991 yet see where these 2 are in the fans' ratings. That '86 bullpen with Ron Davis and Keith Atherton sharing the closing duties was... I think that without Reardon and Davis the Twins would not win it all in 87 and 91 and they are just not regarded as high as some of their teammates...
  17. Berrios and Kepler are not enough. And why would Miami want Kepler with you know whom in his position there? You got to see who the other team has to figure out whether there is a match or not. They have Marcel Ozuna at CF, so I don't think that they even want Buxton. 3B is an issue (they have Prado a UT guy play there), but Sano should be a no go. So you are looking for someone like Plouffe who is a match, and 3 young arms like Berrios, Stewart and Chargois. Would you do it? I would...
  18. Perkins filed a grievance against the Twins way back then when he sucked and they sent him to the minors. SOP. Union stuff. Nothing to see here...
  19. You might want to indicate that you are talking about Sonny Gray. Some of us still have PTSD caused by this guy: http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/76/1c/21/761c213d65edcb634a05ef5b98510ce0.jpg
  20. Pedro had a plus plus changeup a plus to plus plus fastball a plus curveball and an above average to plus slider/cutter all with a plus to plus plus command and control. Other than size and maybe work ethic and drive, Berrios is nothing like Pedro.
  21. You know who he got that hat tilt thing from now, no?
  22. Milone has not been a better pitcher than Pelfrey last season. Pelfrey was a 2.0 fWAR pitcher and Milone was an 1.5 fWAR pitcher. So Milone is worth about $5.35 M a season. Wonder what a team would trade for him
  23. Since he has been with the Twins' Fien has been consistent; here is his FIP: 2012: 3.24, 2013: 3.15, 2014: 3.43, 2015: 3.45. His "success" in 2012 (2.06 ERA, 0.97 WHIP) came from ridiculous: .229 BABIP, 84.4% LOB%, and 6.1% HR/FB. My litmus test is whether or not one of the 4 teams that made the league championship games would have had Fien in their post season bullpen. If the answer is no, which I am afraid it is, he should not be in the Twins' pen. They should be into winning well into the post-season instead of into charity. And, frankly, there are better internal options than Fien, including the 2 kids who closed games in Arizona this Fall...
  24. Wonder if the Tigers are interested in Milone as well. He beat Pelfrey out of ST
