    Cedar Rapids has our best minor league pitching staff. I wish we had some help in St. Paul.

    Someone better than the bottom 1/3 of our current bullpen. Both Cave and Beckham can hold their own on a major league diamond. Someone in contention has a middle IF, or OF get injured in late July and needs to plug a hole without giving up too much and has a deep bullpen. (if there is such a scenario that presents itself)

    I'd do this trade in a NY minute. I think the Reds are looking for more and younger talent. More like Emmanuel Rodriguez, Spencer Steer, Matt Canterino & Jordan Balazovic gets it done. These 4 prospects have a trade value of 44.7, but to get these 2 pitchers from the Reds will cost big time, and given our Correa year in 2022, these 2 pitchers give us a chance to win in the playoffs. I say try to win now. All 4 of the above prospects might be great players, but they won't be on the 26 man roster this year. I'd also like to see another solid back end of the bullpen signing.

    He traded our closer AND paid his 2022 salary on opening day. I consider that to be breaking it.

    Falvey in my opinion WILL make up for trading our closer. Do you think he enjoyed his former employer stealing all these games from our bullpen? I count 4 losses to the Guardians this year by the bullpen. Falvey WILL be aggressive at the deadline to fix what he broke.

    We have created depth from which to trade from here. Infield and corner outfield. One more Sonny Gray, and one more Jhoan Duran would go along way to post season competitiveness this year.

    When I saw this topic my first thought was the trade possibility brewing. With Larnach taking LF, and Arraez taking 1B Kirilloff doesn't exactly have a clear path to the starting 9. No question we must give up someone great, to get back someone great. We are very deep this year at corner outfield, and I do not see Miranda going back down. I don't see Kirilloff coming back up unless we have a starting position available.

    He is the best trade chip from our perspective because we wouldn't miss him. Our best trade chip is the guy we would miss the most. It is likely our potential trade partner wants high upside youth, unless we pull a deal with a contender. I don't have high hopes for this front office to go for it this year. The deals we've made have been on both sides of the "appearing to want to compete scale". The Gray trade says we want to win now. Correa signing says win now. Garver trade says, hold on we need a shortstop and here is our best catcher. Yankees trade says here is our biggest signing ever 3Bman, please take him off our hands, oh and give us that catcher you don't want. Rogers trade says we want controllable players going beyond 2022 and we'll figure out the back end of the bullpen later. Seems we are trying to do both things simultaneously, win now, and build for the future. Front office of the year if they pull that one off.

    Very promising next wave coming in 2-3 years with the play in Low and High A ball so far this year. We also still have some major league talent in St Paul with Kirilloff, Steer, Beckham and Cave. It will be interesting to watch as the trade deadline approaches and how we look to improve the major league pitching staff for a late season run. We have some excellent talent 2-3 years away, and we have some major league depth at corner outfield and middle infield.

    Good example last night. Archer better be allowed to go further in another month. Pulled after 5 innings w/70 pitches is the recipe for burning up your bullpen. Thank goodness for Griffin Jax. He is the best bridge we have to the back end. Now we just need one or two more Duran's.

    Great topic. It feels like we are always saving ourselves for something. Sure hope we are in it in September - we should be the most rested and healthiest team in the league. We must be counting pitches thrown in the bullpen. Rocco never seems to have someone getting ready. Hard to match up with a team like NY, especially when they've had 52 out of 55 games started by their original starting 5 out of spring training. Not sure what to make of all the time missed by starters this year unrelated to their arm's? Pec's, groin's, hamstrings, covid. What is going on in the training room in Minnesota?

    stevekirsch.substack.com He has been writing about this for a 18 months. I encourage everyone with the time and interest to consider reading this mans writings. You do not have to pay and can read for free. It was also the position of Canada to shut down citizens ability to access their bank accounts for certain behaviors. I agree with Max in that it is sad Canada has chosen to take this position.

    I disagree. Rocco had every intention of sending him out for the 9th after the first 2 outs. 2-0 game in the 8th is a high leverage situation regardless of 9th inning plans. I think we agree for the most part here, although I am far more down on Duffy than you seem to be - at least before last night. I find myself cringing when he enters the game anymore. Lost a few mph on the fastball, and where is the wicked curve that used to destroy people? I do not like seeing him after the 7th, and in winnable games. That is my current bias on him. Don't think I'm wrong here. He isn't a high leverage guy.

    Rocco is mistaken in considering Duffy a high leverage guy. Didn't he blow the 1st save opportunity of the year? You must admit Rocco hasn't regularly put Duffy into a save opportunity since the 1st week of the season. Why last night? Winnable games need to be won if you are to play in October.

    Offense didn't score with the bases loaded because KC was trying to win the game and switched pitchers. Which we failed to do. It was Duffy. Not Pagan or Duran. I could somewhat understand not pulling your high leverage guy. Where would the Brewers be without Hader? If Hader was on the mound last night, then ok, leave him in. We need a Hader.

    14 pitchers just got extended till June 19, and will probably end up being season long. No excuse for leaving Duffy hanging out to dry is my opinion no matter the amount of pitchers. Ridiculous considering our AAA team is in the same town.

    This is a little harsh. One mans opinion, not even close. Even Bremer said in the 7th that Smeltzer will go deep, maybe to the end because of all the consecutive games coming. As soon as Dick said that I stood up and said NO WAY, HAVE YOU EVER WATCHED A GAME? Dick, me, Top Gunn#22, and I'll wager 90% of the audience thought Smeltzer would/should keep going. And what is the excuse for leaving Duffy out there hanging? This isn't a "low hanging fruit" critique. This was simply throwing a game away by being locked into a predetermined paradigm. You play to win the games. Fine put Duffy out there to start the 8th, but why in the world you just leave him to the end - and why do we not have 14 pitchers when everyone else does and it seems a universal request on the part of managers? Last night was just unnecessary.

    Totally agree. Very frustrating pulling Smeltzer last night. 79 pitches. Considering the amount of games coming in a row and the way he was getting everyone on soft contact along with 6 K's. Dangit guys. KC switched relievers when we loaded the bases in the 8th. Rocco makes me crazy some days.

    Great write up. I agree this will be a very short stint back in AAA for Royce. Urshela is a nice June trade chip - maybe even Celestino for a high grade starter. We are building depth.

    It sure looks like we are building depth from which to trade from and keep improving. Great line up in the making by mid season. Kirilloff at 1B, Lewis at 3B, Larnach in LF. Is Steer an even better version of Brian Dozier? He looks to be starting in St Paul by July. Ft Myers and Cedar Rapids show great promise for the next wave in 3-4 years. Good stuff happening!

    I think it is fair to say, and ok to say, Rocco has improved - particularly with managing the bullpen. I also think Rocco, and this front office have learned how to better work together - giving each other what each other needs, working off the same page, properly aligning the whole system, pointing towards the same goals with the same processes. I feel much better about the coaching staff they've surrounded Rocco with this year, and our player development is beginning to show up in the results. We're coming as an organization is my take.

    My wife had this same surgery in Dec '20. She still has some pain and is still working through the scar tissue. She claims she is 85%. It bothers her more in the damp and cold, and at night. She went through this phase 6 months ago of thinking something was wrong, but it was healed up just fine. It has slowly gotten just a little better each day. This was a bad deal. No surprise Kirilloff is still hampered, and thinking something may still be wrong. I have heard of many ending up with carpel tunnel after this injury - but that is more the older folks like us.
