  1. Why would you switch them back? Tebow would be a much better option. Ponder is terrible, Tebow isn't a great passer, but he has an arm and is a great runner. Denver and NY were obviously not great places for him. I think he'll get at least one more shot as a QB.
  2. I love this signing. On a side note, if Harden can't stay healthy in the rotation the Twins always have the option of putting him in the pen. He could be pretty valuable there. Fortunately for the Twins, most of their injuries have come from elbows, not shoulders. Perhaps they do something right to avoid it. Plus, they were able to keep Radke's arm on his body for the whole season so hopefully they can help Harden. I think this is a good situation for him and hope he succeeds.
  3. I got a call from the Twins front office today: ... they asked if I can throw strikes and battle. ... they were wondering if I knew the number of Mark Prior. ... they asked how I felt about their slogan in 2013: "Hey, we're a professional baseball team ya know." ... they asked a multiple choice question. When a pitcher's elbow is sore would I a) get it checked by a specialist, then rest and rehab rest and rehab c) get an MRI followed by rest and rehab d) ice it with rest and rehab before the next start
  4. It's possible they could make some noise. The defense has been excellent. If they get anything out of Ponder they could give teams a run for it. Obviously this is assuming they show up, and that isn't a given. But this team is playing well right now and possibly peaking. I want to see them win and cheer for a winning team, so make it happen.
  5. Going into last season the rotation looked ok, but when your two best starters don't pitch the whole year its going to be a tough year. Add in the ineffectiveness of Blackburn and Liriano and its not surprising the team struggled. The rotation to start the year is clearly better, even with Correia. Correia, despite his inadequacies, is a known commodity. He will be below average. The other options the Twins have (which pitched way too many of the innings last season) are terrible. This team will be better than last year and wont lose 90 games again. I see them being a little under 500. The pessimism on this site right now is alarming.
  6. Surprising the amount of Hendriks haters here. All of the comparisons are really not fair to Liam. Slowey was a big fly ball pitcher, almost twice as many as Liam. That makes a big difference. Liam will succeed, and I think things will start to click for him next year. He may not have a clear out pitch yet, but he's young and his curve has promise. He had this whole off-season to work of some of the issues he ran into last year and I expect it to show. He is the type of pitcher Rick Anderson can really help IMO. He'll go north with the Twins and I think he'll stick this time. Him and Plouffe are the players I really expect to give a boost to the Twins this year.
  7. I think this is a good signing. I'm not sure why everyone is blowing up about it. Sure, he's nothing special, but at least he is an MLB caliber pitcher and will give the Twins some decent starts. For what they are paying him, he is a pretty good deal.
  8. I'm pretty sure the origins of JR go back to the ESPN boards. I'm sure Brock remembers the whole story. I think it has to do with dankind. Either way, I just do it as a habit now because I've been been doing it for years.
  9. Maybe, but I think Webb is a fairly close comparison to Tebow, except he (Webb) is better. No, Webb is not a fairly close comparison. Tebow has actually had sustained success and won a big playoff game on the road. Can't compare the two just because they are both athletic.
  10. I believe it will be Hicks too simply because his defense is solid. The Twins have Benson to fall back on if he struggles. Now that I think about it, Benson or Arcia will probably start in RF too. Don't see any reason to let Maestro start the season, we know he's a 4th OF and that should be his role on this team for the next few years.
  11. I vote about the same. Yes, Revere brought back more quantity, but Span brought back a potential ace. I value elite players more than several average players. My opinion on pitching is that a front-line ace is an extremely important player on any team, thus, I value Meyersie more than the animal and Mays. Considering how the CF market is right now, the Twins did the right thing in trading from a strength. One thing everyone must remember, is that Revere is young and will still get better; while Span is in the pinnacle of his career. Both players drastically improve the respective teams, which could meet in the NLCS next season.
  12. Completely disagree. Span is a very good CF and Revere is a great CF. They are both pretty elite with the glove. If Revere had a better arm, he would be hands down the best in the game right now. Bad jumps? You obviously didn't watch this kid play very often. Revere consistently got to balls that I wouldn't have thought anyone would get to. You want to knock him, knock him on the bonehead plays when the ball bounced out of his glove. I don't get the hate here.
  13. That team is going to win 100 games next year. Damn. I wish I was living in D.C. and cheering for that team right now. They already had the best record in baseball and they make a deal to get a solid CF/leadoff guy and top of the rotation veteran. The division race is officially over.
  14. Pulse..... check Possibly overlooked talent....... check Throws less than 95...... check Throws a 2 seam..... I jizzed in my pants
  15. Its a chess match for every team right now. They don't want to overbid, but they want to acquire talent. Agents and GM's are just negotiating and getting the feel of things. Grienke signing will make a big impact and things will start moving much faster, but the same could be said for Haren I believe.
  16. Revere is not worse defensively than Span. He doesn't have as good of an arm, but he has better range that can make up for it. We will lose some offense for sure though. By placing Parmelee out there you are going to lose some defense, but he will make up for it with offense.
  17. No to Dempster for any price, especially for 3 years. Liriano is also going to get more money. Grienke for 5/110 with an option. Liriano for 2 years 12 million and an option. No need for another pitcher. Grienke instantly makes this team a .500 team, and Liriano will have his usual swing year. I really wanted Baker too, but the Cubs gave him a nice offer (he will be worth every penny IMO). Send invites or cheap one year incentive deals to Bedard, Sheets, Pavano, Braden, Harden. This team will seriously compete in 3 years, giving Grienke a nice contract guarantees an elite pitcher for then. Grienke, Gibson, Hendriks and Diamond would be the core going forward, and Meyer, Berrios coming up after them.
  18. I've pegged Verve well before too.... not as great as advertised.
  19. I hope the Twins decide on the Medlen route for Gibson rather than the Stasburg route. I would rather he starts in the pen and bring him along slowly to limit his innings. He pitched about 50 innings this year, and most of them starting. The Twins most likely will start him in AAA to make sure he can go deep into games and bring him up in June. I'd have him start with the Twins right away, but thats me. I think they'll let him go 120-150 IP and cut him off. I don't like the idea of starting the pen and coming up slow. Two different positions that require completely different approaches. Bad idea.
  20. You're not thinking of Ian Stewart?....because Zach Stewart is a pitcher Yes, Ian Stewart. I always thought he would be decent in COL, never clicked for him.
  21. Way too many assumptions going on here.
  22. How can you honestly put Buxton above Sano right now and keep a straight face? That is completely asinine. Buxton has a great tool-set and had a nice professional debut, but Sano hit 28 HR's in a pitcher's league as a 19 y.o. Really? Come on man. Maybe next year is Sano is still having defensive and strike out issues you can put Buxton above him, but not right now. I know these lists are just for fun, but sometimes I just get frustrated when prospects are overrated from the get go like Delmon Young. Success speaks louder than tools to me.
  23. Zach Stewart would be a great guy to bring in. I like Plouffe as much as anyone, but his thumb and lack of sustained success would give a guy like Stewart a reason to come here.
  24. It's FA with a ton of cash floating around....what in god's name do people expect? I'll keep saying it, Baker is going to look like a steal at 5M by the end of this. I have to wonder where the Twins drew the line with him. Maybe he just didn't want to come back or wanted to try somewhere else. I don't blame him since the Twins training staff completely destroyed his ability to make a lot of money this offseason.
  25. That contract doesn't look horrible to me, kind of what I would expect really. Thats why I say spend the money and get Grienke. Don't **** around with mediocre pitchers like Guthrie.
