  1. That would never happen. The Twins have enough pitchers right now to let Gibson take it easy and build into the season. They will not bring him up if he can only pitch 4 innings.... Gardy would have a fit, and rightfully so since it would destroy the pitching staff. Part of the reason they got as many arms as they did, IMO, is so they can leave Gibson down to start the year. Plus, I'm sure they want to see him have some success in AAA. If they would have gone out and signed Grienke, I bet things would have been different this offseason.
  2. A joke in RF? You did see his results in extended playing time in AAA right? The kid just needs a legit shot. He was in the OF before moving to 1b. I think he will be ok out there, can't be much worse than Cuddyer or Young.
  3. Keeping them down until mid-May would be an attempt to avoid super-2 status. The way super 2's are designated changed in the last CBA if I'm not mistaken, and it goes by a percentage. So, teams would really have to be good at guessing or keep players down much longer than they should be to avoid super 2. I don't think the Twins were worried about that with Dozier or will focus on it too much in the future. I don't have the exact numbers off the top of my head (maybe Jeremy does), but the main reason to keep guys down will be the arbitration year now, which isn't too difficult.
  4. Not at all. I'm pretty high on him, but need to see more success at higher levels before getting carried away. Were you following the minors while Garza was coming up with the Twins? Different scenario completely, but Garza destroyed every level of the minors and is simply an above average pitcher with an attitude problem now. My point is, domination in the minors (especially rookie ball) doesn't mean a player is going to hold down a roster spot for 10 years. What kab and I are saying, is there are too many examples of prospects that have everyone raving and then drop off the map. Keep expectations realistic for these kids. That said, I love Berrios. He has #2 upside and sounds like a good kid and hard worker. At this point we've only heard positive things about him. If he continues to develop he will no doubt land in the top 100 prospects soon, probably had a shot this year.
  5. Some of you guys need to be realistic about your expectations for him. He is advanced for his age, which why he dominated. The big question is if his stuff is going to play at higher levels. It's hard to really judge a pitcher after his first season of pro ball, especially young ones. Low-A should start to give him more challenges, but I don't think he'll have much trouble there and get promoted to the FSL halfway through the season. Hitters in this league still struggle with plate discipline and pitch recognition. Berrios has very good control and 3 very good pitches. With his make-up I think he wont get pushed until AA when hitters start to take mistake pitches over the fence.
  6. The only reason Sano spends an entire year in the FSL is to work on defense. The Twins have pushed prospects a little harder once they hit the FSL, so I wouldn't be surprised by a promotion mid-season.
  7. I think it was a message to Plouffe. Valencia became complacent and arrogant after his first success in the MLB, Ryan probably just wanted to make it clear he hasn't done enough to be considered a long-term option yet.
  8. Most of the scouting reports on Rosario are not very good defensively. I don't think any of them flat out say he cannot stay there, rather that its doubtful he does. Missing time probably didn't help him this season. I think the Twins will do everything they can to keep him and Sano at their respective positions, but it might be all for naught.
  9. I really have a hard time believing Hick's strengths will outweigh Arcia's. Arcia is a pure hitter that put up video game numbers in AA while turning 21 during the season. He can take some walks too, evidence by his 400 OBP. Why is Hicks's bat still developing but Arcia's isn't? I can see the argument of Hicks having a higher floor, but I can't buy the argument he has a higher ceiling. Hicks finally put together a decent offensive season and people want to put him in front of a guy that has flat out hit for the last 3 years while going up levels and adjusting to the competition. From a stats perspective, they both have about a 20% K rate. Hicks is going to walk at about 12% (largely based on last few years), while Arcia showed the most plate discipline of his career last year and walked at 8.7%. However, Arcia made up for that difference in being on base by hitting his way on, which is more valuable anyway, and bettered Hicks in SLUG by 100 points.... BTW, this was a breakout year for Hicks with power (.368 in 2011, .428 in 2010, .382 in 2009, and .491 in 2008 Rk ball). As hitters, Arcia is on a different level than Hicks. I didn't even have to mention his dreadful splits as a LH hitter (he didn't improve this season). I didn't mention that Hicks is over a year and a half older than Arcia. So, you can argue Hicks will have value in the MLB without developing power or a good bat, but I can't buy the argument Hicks is a better prospect, not by a long shot. Arcia would have my vote as a #1 prospect.
  10. Rosario might not stick at 2b... so his status is depending on his ability to stick in the INF. If he has to move back to CF his prospect ranking takes a hit. He'll still be fine with the bat, but it would play much better at 2b. I didn't catch this poll or I would have voted Arcia for sure.
  11. There is no "maybe." Jack Morris is not a HOF pitcher! Get off it. He was great for the Twins and had a nice career, but he is not a HOF pitcher. He just wasn't good enough. I just don't get the infatuation with an above average pitcher.
  12. Another year removed from 2011, plus a healthy offseason means he will be better. I bet all his numbers increase with the exception of OBP due to being stronger and able to train better (like Morneau). I'm not sure how much better, but an OPS north or 900 wouldn't be too difficult for him. Add in that Doumit will get time in as catcher to keep him from breaking down. Now that the concrete has settled in TF there will also be more homeruns.....
  13. Steroids. Steroids is what I think and if he chooses that route I will turn pro-choice-to-not-be-a-****ty-pitcher.
  14. I really don't think its fair to asses Webb on last night's game. He was thrown into a playoff game against a pretty good team with a weeks worth of reps (if that) and without playing the entire season. It was an almost impossible position. In the second half he started to look more comfortable, but it was too late at that point. I don't think an option-only gameplan was the way to go, but I agree Musgrave could have called some better plays. Webb has an awesome arm and I wish we got to see extended play from him to see if there is anything there. I doubt that chance will ever come though. I really liked some of the balls he threw and think there is talent there. Despite that, he would have a lot polish to become a quality NFL QB.
  15. Confidence in throwing the ball => better velocity, arc. I'm saying maybe it isn't physical, but mental; which is what you are suggesting. However, you are making an assumption that based on his draft position he has a good arm. I wouldn't make the same assumption. I look at how poorly he's thrown the ball over his entire career. It can't be simply mental, I don't think he has the physical tools for the position. Maybe he will prove me wrong someday, but the dude is a ****ty QB.
  16. Because he's proven to lack the arm strength of what most would consider an NFL QB. Maybe its a confidence thing, but I just don't see him ever being able to overcome it.
  17. The team I fear the most is Seattle. If the Vike GB and win there, they can win at SF or ATL (I saw they would play SF, not ATL... doesn't matter). They are winning games unlike any team in this era. They have an explosive running game and a passing attack that is starting to find some footing and a defense that can shut you down. I don't think they will win at GB, but it is fun to speculate. At least we can feel like they have a chance... I thought for sure they were destined for a last place finish in the NFC North after they started sliding. The Packers have to some doubts about this game, they got lucky the first time and played behind the whole second game.
  18. Regretfully. I was surprised he could throw the ball as far as he did, where the **** has that been all year? He still made some terrible throws and I believe the Vikings would do well to draft a project QB in the middle rounds or trade Percy for one. This team might have shot. It is all going to depend on how well the defense can play. AP will put up 150 yards again because this defense can't hold him and Blair Walsh is money so they will put points on the board. Can't let them get big plays. Hopefully Winnfield plays next weekend, his absence was felt in the running game and passing game.
  19. Would love to see AP break the record on a huge game-winning TD run.
  20. There are many theories about the most effective way to construct a line-up. Some actually believe that you should put your best hitter in the leadoff spot regardless of speed, power, ect. The thought is moving them up in the order allows for more opportunities for your best hitter. Obviously no team in the league goes that drastic with it, but the idea of moving up your best hitters is valid. I'm fine with putting a guy like Span at leadoff, and even Hicks if he can post a respectable OBP. Since the Twins don't currently have a very good option for hitting second (actually Mauer is exactly what a 2 hitter should be...), moving Mauer up only makes sense. Put Willingham 3rd followed by Morneau and Plouffe.
  21. There is an unwritten rule with Gardy, play CF bat leadoff.
  22. All the top 10 guys plus any scrappy utility INF that have a sweet glove.
  23. Because that combination worked so poorly in college?
  24. Swearing a bunch in a post doesn't make your argument better, just an FYI. Tebow shouldn't be judged based on this year when he was clearly brought into a bad situation. Ponder might be a better QB, but it wouldn't be too hard for Tebow to be better than him. Unfortunately, a so-so performance from Ponder in this game looks so good because of how poor he's actually been. I hope he can turn it around, but I don't think he has the arm strength.
