  1. Man, the Twins built a tough ballpark. Between the trees out in CF, the concrete settling and the no-man's land to the gaps... they have built a modern day labyrinth.
  2. Joe Benson starts at CF and doesn't give up the position all year. Someone will still come up if Morneau or Willingham are traded.....
  3. How is your post relevant? You think he deserves more than that after two 90 loss seasons and another possible?
  4. You can always point out players that skipped a level and didn't miss a beat. The list of guys who's careers were hurt by this is much longer. That is what player development is, being able to judge when they are ready to move up and when they aren't. Plouffe was pushed through the system despite his numbers and it is starting to look like the Twins took a good approach with him. Hicks was held a year and it looks like it helped. I was fine with them bringing Dozier up when they did, the problem was they kept him there despite him struggling helplessly. It got pretty bad for Dozier. It was obvious he wasn't making adjustments and they left him out to dry. A big part of that is a terrible job by management to provide insurance to that position.
  5. Twins got lucky with Diamond. I think he'll be a solid guy in the rotation for a long time. He will never be spectacular because he doesn't miss enough bats and will perform better with a better defense behind him. I think everyone knows his success depends on not walking guys and limiting HR's.
  6. I feel like Hicks and Arcia are getting screwed over pretty good.... Arcia more than Hicks. It doesn't really matter in the long-run, I just don't agree how these rankings are compiled. Best prospect to me means best chance to make an impact in the MLB, not highest ceiling. I rank mine on a weighted scale of production, ceiling and risk. Again, Rosario falls off based on the doubts on his ability to play 2b. If he makes big strides this season he will crack the top 100. It is fun to see more Twins on these lists, but keep in mind top prospects fail all the time. A guy like Brandon Wood was in the top 20 for 3 years in a row and hasn't been able to OPS over .513 in 700 AB's (although, I would have given him a flier for back-up 3b).
  7. *insert snarky joke that half the board gets and the other half flame
  8. I thought that is pretty low for how big of a season Arcia had last year. Pretty surprised by it. Rosario is being held back by his defense I bet. If he has to move to the OF his bat doesn't play as well.
  9. I can't handle it. Too many frustrations in this thread. Lol you took the most facetious part of my post and argued against it. Good times. Really!!!??? All the young players like Cuddyer, Kubel, Bartlett, Lohse, Parmelee, could throw in Delmon and Garza for the heck of it. He has a terrible rap with young players. He hasn't been as bad lately, but the Twins have also sucked so he hasn't had the chance to be a dick. First of all, the Twins haven't lost much talent since Gardy took over. Guys that fit your bill: J.J. Hardy, Pierzynski (was pretty good when he left), Bartlett, Garza, Lohse, we could be adding Kubel soon too, luckily they have Perkins or he would be on the list... That isn't incredibly short. OK, the year the Twins sign a legit back-up catcher and Butera still finds a way to get 111 AB's. The year before he got 234 AB's and 142 AB's in a year the Twins won 94 games (2-8 the last 10) and got swept in the playoffs. The Texas Rangers had a 92m payroll in 2011 and went to the WS. The Twins that year was 112m... in 2010 when the Rangers made the series they had a payroll of 55m, the Twins had 97m. Tampa Bay in 2008 had a 43m payroll. Detroit Tigers had a 82m payroll in 2006 and went to the WS. 2005 Chicago White Sox 75m. Is that enough yet to change your mind? I can keep going with examples if you'd like. Ohhhh. So what has changed? The people making the decisions? The organizational philosophies? Pretty sure JR said in a quote that they will continue to do what they have always done. Nothing will change until there is new blood making decisions and changes.
  10. I'm a Benson guy. I hope he takes CF to start the year and runs with it. Then the Twins can call up Hicks/Arcia when Morneau is traded or Parmelee fails.
  11. The ole boys club at its finest. Hopefully their days are numbered. I've said it in the past, you can't judge Gardy on the last few years. Judge him on his disgusting performances in the playoffs, terrible handling of young players, and batting Drew Butera 2nd or 3rd. Everything comes to an end, I wont miss this era.
  12. Strawman? There are PLENTY of examples of players that could make this team better. Why is it only necessary to spend money if the team has a shot at the world series? Why is it blasphemy to overpay a little for a guy that will improve the roster for the next few years, even if that guy isn't in the long term plans? This approach doesn't work. I'm not suggesting they "spend just to spend." I'm suggesting they spend to make the team better and easier to watch. This isn't the NFL with draft picks. Even a mediocre pick like number 25 can give you Mike Trout, so why not give the fans something to come and watch? I haven't seen a single game in Target Field because the team isn't worth driving 4 hours to watch play ****ty baseball. The arguments on the Twins side have to be wearing thin. These excuses will not be tolerated by fans too much longer. At some point the Twins will be getting hit pretty hard and answering tough questions about poor decisions (already starting to happen). Minnesota gives people the benefit of the doubt... only for so long.
  13. Another example of JR's inability to run a successful ML team. His moves this offseason look good for the minor league system, but have once again left the ML club bent over with a strap on aimed at them.
  14. Every one of those starters failed. That is the difference. We felt going into the year last year that the Twins could be competitive with those starters, maybe a bubble playoff team. Things fell apart pretty quickly. It's almost a guarantee this rotation will outperform last season. That is what Reusse is suggesting.
  15. Hendriks will go north with the team over Gibson IMO. The Twins would be making a huge mistake not to allow Gibson some time at AAA and get an extra year of team control. If there was a chance the Twins would compete I could see it, but bringing Hicks and Gibson north would be stupid stupid stupid stupid.
  16. I love it when you get hot and bothered... Makes me hot too.... not so much bothered though
  17. I'm betting its 100-130 IP with the Twins. That is a pretty good goal IMO. Add 30 or so at AAA and that will be a successful season.
  18. That isn't enough. I was outraged when I saw it. As dirty of a hit as you can get. This league is ****ed up.
  19. I don't see any reason the Twins have to hold him back... yet. Maybe they will find something, but the Twins really haven't had many prospects to promote aggressively. In reality, they haven't had any high ceiling pitchers in the org since Garza... and rocketed through the system. Garza was also a college pitcher and the Twins tend to promote college players more freely. I don't think the Twins are going to be compelled to rush him through the system to contribute to a playoff team.
  20. I thought we already did this
  21. Why are we sending Jair to Baltimore?
  22. Range is meh for a 3b. His range was affected by not making some plays he had to move for, which I think will be improved on. He also made some outstandingly rangy plays last season going to all directions. His consistancy is the key, which has been beaten to a pulp in this thread already. At the least, I think the Twins have a guy who will help the team more than hurt them and allow them to focus on other positions going forward. This is the least, at the best he could be an all-star. Normal guys don't just go on tears and hit homeruns like that. I'm hoping for the best.
  23. First of all, it was a thumb injury (to a nerve to be specific). Second, it was almost a month that was lost. And third, his defensive woes in the field were due to throwing from SS more than anything. At third he was actually pretty good. He had a few stretches of incompetence, but he passes the eye test from my perspective. Plus, if he can hit who cares if he is below average defensively? Another little fact about 2012 is he was extremely unlucky with BA, he had a nice line-drive rate, and his FB to HR ratio was pretty high. I expect .250 avg with 25-30 HR's.
  24. That is not how starters are used in the MLB. I can't think of a single case where a team implemented this idea. There has been plenty of examples where a team leaves a guy in the bullpen for awhile the year after surgery, but not after he's thrown 100 innings. The Twins did use your idea last season... in the GCL... where it is common for that type of thing on rehab stints. Also, you're overlooking the amount of guys the Twins brought in to compete for spots. Hopefully some of the **** they throw against the wall sticks and they get a nice reward. This action almost clearly tells us that Gibson will not go north with the Twins, but if there is a starter that is terrible after a month the Twins can have a short leash with them.
  25. Bench a guy that posted a 1.000 OPS in AAA in favor of 2 guys that haven't had a plate appearance there?
