  1. Brock, I respect your opinions, but in this instance I believe you have it wrong. A major league team should always bring up the players that would have the most positive impact on the "Major League" team TODAY. Pino had the most positive results in AAA. He earned the right to pitch in the majors. Parmalee, Colabello & Santana were the best hitters in AAA Rochester this season when they were brought up to help the Twins. There is no way to measure what a few MLB starts would do to advance Meyer or Mays future, You could look at Gibson last year. He was inconsistent in the same way as Meyer and May are this year. Gibson was terrible last year. For all practical purposes this is his rookie year. He is still inconsistent. Who knows if those few games of major league experience helped or hindered Gibson's learning process. This year Pino has clearly been the most consistent starter in AAA. His results with the Twins have been overall positive. He has earned the right to another start. Let Meyer and May continue their FIRST season in AAA until the Twins need a starter and they are the best option. Right now they are the 3rd & 4th best option and "winning now" is more important than the possible development advantages to bringing up unprepared and unready prospects.
  2. Pino is another reminder that talent should not be evaluated by the age of the player. The Twins should always be in "WIN NOW!" mode. A major league team owes it to the fans to "WIN NOW!" Why should the fans care if there are better long term prospects(Meyer and May) in AAA ? If Pino can give us results now, then we should be playing Pino. The same argument can be made for Colabello. So what if Pino and Colabello are 30 years old? They could have several productive years at the major league level. The Twins should always be trying to "WIN NOW!". It makes no difference if the win total is 70 or 90 wins. "WIN NOW!" should always be the Twins goal.
  3. There is no need to cover the All Star Game in here. Fox Sports North is doing a thorough job of it.
  4. talent trumps age and injuries. Give Hermsen a proper chance
  5. Suzuki may be tradeable but he seems to be responsible for the great pitching performances of Twins pitchers. " No No. Please not Suzuki. Anybody but Suzuki." "Anybody?" "NO No. Please don't trade Hughes either. Anybody but Hughes and Suzuki." "Anybody?" "No no. Please don't trade Hammer. Anybody else but Hammer and Hughes and Suzuki." and so on and so forth thru the lineup ...
  6. It definitely was a performance worth watching. I liked it so much I watched the re-broadcast also.
  7. When Sano and Rosario were moved to NB and Vargas stayed in FtM, one wondered how Vargas would fare without those hitters batting around him. It looks like he doesn't need them and he hits just fine on his own.
  8. The answer is simple IMSHO (In my seldom humble opinion). The DH. Not getting those free outs makes it tougher on the pitchers and it takes time to adjust.
  9. Gordon at SS for E-town !! What can be more exciting than this
  10. The Twins have a (usually) lights out closer and 3 starters who can pitch a shutout on any given day. Of course we want to make the playoffs and see if we can catch 87 in a bottle.
  11. I still stop breathing until Santana throws out the runner, when a ball is hit to him. I can barely stand to watch during double play situations. Until he proves he can make the routine plays, I reserve the right to worry.
  12. Pino certainly has paid his dues. My guess is that May won't be promoted before Meyers. Given his history he needs to prove himself in AAA before they call him up.
  13. Another sign of his flexibility is the success Colabello & Kubel had in April helped carry the team to a .500 record. Now they are gone, and not likely to ever return. I think Gardy looks at a guy and says to himself, "Hmmm, this guy looks like he can hit." He asks his old buddies, Vavra and Ullger (both ex-hitting coaches) and they say, "Yeah, I do believe this guy can hit."and he checks with Bruno and Bruno says, "Yeah, this guy does look like he can hit." So they put him in the lineup and keep them there and the guy hits. Other times Gardy looks at a guy and says to himself, "Hmmm, this guy doesn't look like he can hit." He asks his old buddies, Vavra and Ullger (both ex-hitting coaches) and they say, "Yeah, I don't think he can hit."and he checks with Bruno and Bruno says, "Nope, this guy's doesn't have a clue." So they take him out of the lineup and gets rid of him and tries someone else. Isn't that the way its supposed to work? Isn't that their job ? I like Parmalee. I pray for Parmalee. It looks like Parmalee is going to be sent back down cause it doesn't look like he can hit.
  14. I haven't been pleased with the consistency of the bullpen this year, but I don't think you can blame that on Gardy. Guerrier is a proven relief pitcher and has the mental "stuff" to be effective. His breaking balls break and his fastball hits their spots. However, hitters have been hitting him. The Front office is to blame for the CF confusion, but Gardy coached the team thru that and has given Santana the confidence to go out there and learn on-the-job. We, the fans, can't see the inside stuff that goes on. We can see some of Pinto's problems and I think Gardy pulled him out of the regular lineup at the right time. Gardy can better see Hicks's struggles than any of us. When u combine the injuries, the low BA and his switching to hitting RH, the manager is the best person to judge if Hicks should be in MLB. The shortstop situation has been a problem. When Florimon proved to be hopeless at bat, Gardy stayed flexible and fortunately Escobar has been a revelation. Gardy seems to trust his players and the players can feel that. He stays flexible in difficult situations. He and the coaches seem to have the locker room on his side. I'd give Gardy a B (no manager ever deserves an A. They always make some mistakes.)
  15. I think that if the Twins get thru these games, with around a .500 record, they will be contenders for the Wild Card into September.
  16. Fryer will be up. He's a good defensive catcher and there is no urgency to use him often. Hermann needs to play and Pinto certainly needs to play as well.
  17. For any fan in the 60's and 70's Tovar was the spark that lit the fire:) The article brings back many fond memories.
  18. This situation has developed because of Suzuki's unexpected value to the Twins. Looking at the 2nd half of 2013, Suzuki has been a consistent producer. He is too valuable to sit. Nobody expected this and I expect that it has disrupted the teams plans for Pinto. What would you do ? Until Suzuki has a severe drop-off in production, it would be folly to give Pinto his at bats.
  19. I am disappointed that Brett Lee was not on your list. Even though he is currently on the DL, he has been a consistent starter in CR last year and with the Miracle this year.
  20. I don't care about the scores or the standings. This club is fun to watch. Everyday in every position there is something interesting happening.
  21. I'm hoping the Twins will take Jackson or Gordon. I think we need another prized hitter. With the top level pitching we have in the minors, we can take pitchers in the 2nd and/or 3rd round.
  22. what is wrong with playing Danny Santana in CF? He's fast. He's hitting. He can learn to play center field faster than Hicks can learn to hit RH pitchers from the right side of the plate. This is a fun situation. I like Escobar at short and defense was always Santana's weakness as a shortstop. Unless we risk trying Dozier again at SS, we don't need more 2nd basemen. So lets enjoy watching Santana's progress.
  23. 2 thoughts >>> We may see Rosario at Target Field before the year is done. Wouldn't it be nice if one of the Rochester starters showed some consistancy.
  24. Lazy columnists write negative articles. Reusse was a negative writer even back in his Pioneer Press days. When in doubt he hits below the belt.
  25. The problem with BABIP is that it does not distinguish between a weak grounder and popup from a smash grounder and a line drive. You use is to give us reason to be hopeful. Others have used it to show that a high average or power hitter, is in a lucky streak. Its one of that stats that you can use to be optimistic or pessimistic about a players future success.
