Twins (Festa) vs Red Sox (Fitts): 9/20/24, 6:10pm
h2oface replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
Unbelieveable that Baldelli will just keep slamming his head against the wall and pinch hit 0-29 Margot. Slow learner. -
And with the bases loaded and one out, game tied in the 10th, Correa and Buxton are coming up. The money men. The franchise men. No hero among them. Otani got twice as many hits as the Twins did, all by himself, today. But that post game talk by Baldelli was sooooo inspiring that I am sure they will now win out. So inspired they will finally perform again. Done deal. That man just oozes inspiration.

Meanwhile, earlier, in the 6th, Correa watched a perfect pitch for called strike three for the 2nd out of the inning with runners on first and second, as he got the perfect center center straight fastball as middle middle as can be with no movement, and watched it, betting on a breaking pitch. Very sad. You can't hit the ball, and close pitches that should be really good pitches, it you don't even swing.

Twins 4, Reds 8: Elly De La Cruz Grand Slam Sinks Twins
h2oface replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Big Choke. Less than a month ago they were 17 games over .500. If they just could play .500 ball.......... just win one lose one........ Ober is really getting screwed by his teammates these last games. They can't field, they can't relieve until let his baserunners score. They can't hit until the game is almost over against a very mediocre starter. Fitting that Steer started it all and Wallner can't make the play. And the fiery manager found a way to let Ober go 90 today. Stretching him out. But same old story handed down to him by the best bullpen in MLB.- 38 replies

The Jhoan Durán Panic Is Hugely Overblown
h2oface replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The thing is, all those hits matter. And even if the batter doesn't get a hit, they are making tons of contact. Lots of people on base. I don't think it is out of line to note that, or to have expectations of players. That is why they are all on the team. Because they are expected to perform to their best potential and ability. It is not out of line to be disappointed when they don't. That is part of being a fan. I think that he is somehow tipping his pitches. Even his heater is getting a ton of contact. Even he himself has said he is not having a good year, and even Rivera had a bad year (but I can't remember when that was..... ). And both Jeffers and Vazquez call a ton of breaking pitches to start the at bat. And in very important counts. All hits count, and especially to the tune of a ,326 batting average against. -
Lewis showing shades of Danny Valencia, only Valencia stayed on the field more. Came on like an all-star for the the last half of his first season, started kinda strong the next year, and faded away. I hope "I don't do slumps" can get it together. And Lee looks totally overhyped, with supposedly having such great baseball IQ, and throwing the ball all over the place when he has no play.

Ha. Probably right. But no guts no glory. No team none not one was going to let a guy go 10 innings in a game seven then, either. I don't know if it has ever happened but that one time, in a game 7 especially. But all went out the book because Kelly read the room and the pitcher, and had the guts to do it. No reason to not refer to it like it can never happen, because it did. Unlikely, but not unreasonable at all to mention, and dream.

We were discussing the mentality to be able to not have set roles. Others tried to emulate what Miller achieved for a couple years, but that has passed by the wayside. Maybe different innings, but Miller was unique, so of course it was an entirely different role.

Before play on Sunday August 18, they were 70-53, and the best record in MLB was 73-50, with only 6 teams with a better W-L record. Baldelli has led the team to 76-66, 6-13 during the next short 3 weeks, worse than the 7-13 start of the season that had so many declaring here that the season was already over. Of course, he didn't play those games, but he made a bunch of decisions that didn't help, like pulling Ober tonight. Hopefully, all these rookie strangers can actually step up and perform next year. I really think anything that comes with the rest of the season is gravy, especially with the high dollar duo and Ryan and Stewart, et al, on the shelf. This team makes decisions (Lee) like they aren't ready for the show this year, both in the field and at the plate, and they aren't. I still think they will get in the playoffs, but get booted right out in the wild card series against Houston, NY, or Baltimore. And that is OK, now. Of course that is not want I want to see. That is the best that can happen with this manager, and what is left of this team. I gotta let emotion go after tonight, and accept it for what it.......... isn't.

Wasn't it Andrew Miller that became the new thing, fireman, pitch 1 to 4 innings in any game wherever the game was turning? And put out the fire? Close, hold. or come in the 4th. 2016-17. ALCS MVP 2016 for Cleveland and reliever of year in 2017. So it can happen, and it did for those two years, and then was tried by other teams and others pitchers for a while. A lot of people (here and elsewhere) would never do that. But it was an amazing two years that was out of the box with great success. Miller wasn't that good before or after, but for those two years, it was sure amazing, and brave to implement. I am glad Francona messed with that. Duran is getting lots of contact no matter when he pitches, now. Seems to be getting lucky more than lights out in his saves, to me.

Twins (Ober) vs Royals (Marsh): 9/7/24, 6:15pm
h2oface replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
Twins are great for the KC 7 game losing streak that they just came out of. 2 Runs in 2 games, and Baldelli reliance on his odds only. Recipe for success for KC with the pressure on. -

Absolutely. Lee with a hero complex, Lewis slump slump slumping, AAA players nervous and in the most important games of the season, This line up is not what got us here, anyway, and everyone is basically playing without a position. It is really amazing that anyone defends the organization, right now. Lots of hype about how good they will be, just no one really lasting a season, whether slumping or injury. -

I don't care who goes first. Jax or Duran right now. Duran gets so much contact anymore. And Jax gets quite a bit, too. I don't think that bothers them. I think that if they pitch without pressure or the "high leverage" outings that they both lose a bit of focus. This wasn't the case, tonight. There is no way I pull Ober at 83 pitches and 15 in a row. Soft contact. Efficient. On a roll, and really, probably 2 more innings with his count. One at least. One and start the 9th. But he definitely comes out to start the 8th and we see how it goes. This was the type of game and time of year and importance of game that you ride the starter if they are cruising. Even to more pitches than he has pitched all season. Baldelli probably would have taken Morris out in the 7th or 8th in game 7. I hate his managing. I am sure he is a nice guy. I hate his managing in so many ways. Looks like Houston in the wild card series, if anyone. Maybe better than the Yankees. Who knows. Like KC Chiefs, there are always a threat to go all the way, even when they don't look so dominant during the season. -

"Ya. You know, Bailey had been real good. 15 in a row. But our odds say 83 pitches is a lot, and they had really batted Bailey around in a couple other games. Odds are they were due to get some hits, off him you know. I think that overrides that at 83 pitches and 15 in a row set down you should stay with him, you know, and give him a few batters and see how it goes, and that maybe he could go out there and get a few more, you know, and that it was time to put Duran in, and let him get some confidence, you know, after giving up that one game winning grand slam, as long as he didn't have to face Witt. That would be too much confidence. You know he and Jax are our go to guys, and they both had gotten slammed around recently, so you have to go with the guys that got you here, no matter how good Bailey was pitching. I mean, 15 in a row isn't really that many." -

And for further context worth noting, they are only (ONLY) 4 games behind those other two teams, and they are but a .500 team against the league without the 13-1 record against the White Sox. No reason to not have urgency, focus, and intensity. They have looked horrible in the field, this series, with little league type of plays. Tic toc. Time is running out. Also worth noting, is that if they can't win the division and get the first round bye, they may want to finish 3rd and play the Astros in the 3 game wild card series and not the

Rays 2, Twins 1: Lineup Mediocrity "Springs" Eternal
h2oface replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would hope so. You didn't call Buxton any names, and what you were accused of was inferring something you never said. Then the other guy called you names. Several and more than once. And yet, that seems it is allowed. Curious at times. But I would just ignore. There is always the ignored user settings. Can I say that I wish I never had to have the game interrupted by Audra's fluff in the stands? All those promos drive me nuts. 😇- 115 replies

h2oface replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So if they have already doubled and homered in the game, and are seeing the ball and killing it, you don't pinch hit for them. But this manager will pinch hit when the hitter is hot. The great cooler. If the hitter is 0-2 with two horrible Ks, you pinch hit. There has to be some actual managing. I don't see it with the religious platoon, especially in the 5th inning.- 115 replies
