  1. I believe in intangibles. I think Hunter helped the Yankees get a better Aaron Hicks, for sure. I was hoping all that mentoring was actually to improve the Twins, though.
  2. Impressive. 20 pages of comments in, and someone is still paying attention.
  3. Yup, I just have a different opinion, no matter how many times I read the same articles and other folk's opinions. The McCann deal is a great example of what not to do when signing a catcher, in my opinion. Thanks for pointing that out to me, and I mean that sincerely.
  4. As with my feelings on Gomez while others were slamming him, I think the Twins will have lost out on an outfielder that has at least one year as an all-star. It just won't be with the Twins. I really think this a personality mismatch more than anything else. I also think that because of that, he had to be traded for him to become what he will, even though I would have liked to see it here. At some point this year, the Twins will certainly regret their lack of outfield depth that this trade will be responsible for. Ryan should have at least gotten an additional minor league arm with the deal. Weiters was the catcher to add. Isn't it about time to set up the run, instead of treading water. Tick tock........ Can't wait to see Murphy in left or right field....
  5. On the other hand, I think it could indicate that Weiters could have been signed relatively easily, and without giving up Hicks. And it would have been a definite starting catcher. I think it shows that Ryan missed or didn't even go after the catcher the Twins should have gotten, and could have had, for a controversial trade that is, again, yet to be determined, and the sand in the glass once again has settled into the bottom without the splash that could have been. I certainly don't think that a free agent contract at an older age, and especially for a catcher, will ever look more lucrative. A 30 year old catcher is one more year closer to not continuing to be a catcher. Possibly double? I think the chance of him losing half the value of what he could have gotten this year is just as good a bet. Time will tell. All in all, it probably won't change much, except for if it happens next year, he would get one less year on a contract that he could have signed this year.
  6. The same folks that like this trade are probably the same folks that liked Capps for Ramos, and Meyer for Span, and are still saying that they were good trades. Total speculation disclaimer. Some will always like the management/admin no matter what they do, even if it does prove to suck. "I feel that it was a good risk at the time, and still do". Yup. That will probably not change for the rest of their lives. Personally, I don't buy it. If I hadn't become a Twins fan as a child watching and listening to Halsey Hall and Herb Carneal and Ray Scott call the games on WCCO and in black and white on the TV and with the earphone in my ear from my little transitor radio, I would have tired of this type of management years ago. As it is, I can't help but to continue to suffer.
  7. The percentage of payroll is easy to fix. Just increase the payroll to the luxury tax limit, and Mauer's salary won't be such a high percentage of it. The Pohlad's are cheap. The increased payroll is not a problem for them. Seriously. I can't live in a box. Maybe Pohlad's could sell the team to Mark Cuban. Not every venture has to make money. Some can break even, especially when you have so much. Sometimes, if you really want to enjoy life, things can just be an expensive hobby.
  8. Playing center field for the Twins since Torii Hunter roamed, is like playing keyboards for the Grateful Dead - it doesn't go as far as you don't make it out alive, but it is the kiss of death to your longevity, and you are bound to be traded once you get ready to evolve or have evolved into becoming what you were brought here to do.
  9. That is true. But I think the example you use only happens in politics. Usually, or more commonly, the bell does ring and it does work out, on the average, to most often tend toward the "common".
  10. ....but yet, the very reason they are classified as average is that they are the most common fruit, and their performances govern and establish the average-ness.
  11. Not in my book. I love baseball too much to buy that, no matter how many loving fans become haters. Especially when in many cases, it was the management's inability to adapt that was the problem, and not the players. I don't think my children are my enemy when the leave either, and they did it by choice, and were not even involuntarily traded. I find the players that I follow for 4, 5 and 6 years in the minors way more family than guys like Phil Hughes and Nolasco, for example.
  12. That is all fine for the couple of weeks at a time Buxton has shown that he can stay on the field. But when he goes down, and he will, he is replaced by who? Shane Robinson? Somebody playing out of position? Murphy getting some outfield time in? Time will tell. I will root for both Murphy and Hicks to succeed. This new Ryan splash did have a couple of rings around it, but no wake whatsoever. More like a tiny pebble in the pond than a boulder in the lake. Looks like Molitor never really jelled with Hicks. My bet is some team will, and he with them, and the Twins will have prepared another center fielder for a team that gets to go to the playoffs and Hicks with them.
  13. The chances Ryan takes is for middling talent. I think trading a budding everyday outfielder for a platoon backup catcher is taking the wrong kind of chance. With the pitchers that Ryan collects, the outfield needs to be defensive, and not lumbering bats.
  14. I can't wait to see Murphy in the outfield. Rumor has it, he will be working out with Sano and shagging fly balls......... Joe Mauer is jealous.
  15. I agree. I like Hicks. I like many of the players the Twins trade more than the ones they keep or trade for. For example, I will never think of Mike Pelfrey as a Twin just because a GM I don't care for makes the mistake of signing him. I think Hicks will become a star, and I also hope he does. I also think that Ryan hasn't learned from the last gutting of a defensive outfield, and the Colabellos and Parmelees and Arcias that replaced them. All that minor league time to hope a prospect gets ready to take a spot in the show, and they continue to be traded or not signed once they get there. It creates teams of strangers instead of family.
  16. Unanimously, eh? I am on the books as not in on that unanimous bandwagon group thought, so I guess it wasn't and still isn't.
  17. Watching some of that way too long video of Park hitting his homers in 2015....... if he weighs as little as 230 then I am 7 foot tall. He could stand to get in shape for the MLB.
  18. "low to midlevel Twins sources'? Now we know why they are low to midlevel. They still haven't learned to keep their mouths shut, and they can't really be trusted because of it. And now un-named sources are sited for a rumor that could have no basis or truth.... and it is passed on...... On another note, it is interesting that the new chubby Korean is not even signed yet. Rumor has it that he is considering getting in shape for MLB.
  19. May as well trade the whole team. That is how you win championships, eh? Build a defensive outfield that can protect your mediocre # 3 and 4 pitchers, and then get rid of them and let lumbering big men play out of position. You think Ryan would have learned form the last purge of defensive outfielders.
  20. "I’ll take any kind of power," Ryan said. "Left or right-handed. It doesn’t matter. Somebody can hit the ball over the fence, you’re going to have interest. Power is hard to find, especially in this place." Ryan has shown in the past that players that swing for the fences have long been ostracized by the organization, and either have been traded, non-tendered, cut, or leave themselves. When he had power, they tried to change them (Ortiz et al). I don't get this interest at all. To me, it stinks of another Nishioka, and talent that will not translate to the show. It is like signing another 10 million dollar just below average starting pitcher. Plouffe cannot get you an ace starting pitcher, or probably one of the best catchers, or Chapman for the pen. Anything else he is traded for adds redundancy to the team, and is not needed. Be it that Ryan is still making the trades, I have low hope for Plouffe and the Twins, and feel the odds are 2 to 1 he will be traded, and it will not go well.
  21. Never to manage a MLB club. Bench coach maybe, and he could be buddies with the team and add the "y" or "ie" on the end of all their names. Being buddies might be a stretch, though, as he seemed to make a lot of enemies of some fine players that took their talent and turned it to success elsewhere. But never to manage. AAA, OK. College, I might give it a try. Never to manage a MLB team. 13 years was already 8 too many. Time to sell cars or something.
  22. ....which is a much better place for him.
  23. Yuk. And I don't mean yuk yuk. Texiera is on the way down and down and down. And he was a Yankee. Yuk.
  24. Minnesota........ the state that elected Jesse Ventura governor. After that.... eye shadow seems tame.
