  1. Sano arrived before the game on Wednesday, and was in the dugout. I think if you want to count that as his first game back, you wouldn't be wrong. They purposely had him relax and watch. Unless you had a prediction for his second game back, save your crow eating for later. I hope you get a big helping. Looking forward to seeing this new guy, Perex.
  2. Damn. It looks like I get Odorizzi, Pineda, and Perez in LA next week. I was hoping for Berrios, Gibson, and Odorizzi. Oh well. I guess it won't be as bad as having to pay to watch Colon pitch. I am even looking forward to see how Perez and Odorizzi do live.
  3. Well, your intel, or guess? is half right....... maybe? I am glad that they put Cruz on the IL today. A 3 man bench is already too small, 2 is ridiculous. And that is what it was for 4 games.
  4. Kirilloff facing some adversity after a quick start. Down to .214 average. Things can change quickly with such few at bats. I see Wander Javier's status has changed from early May return, to unkown. What's up with that?
  5. What is the story on Cruz. It is like playing with a 2 man bench if he cannot play, and that just doesn't seem like the way to go. And any update on Garver?
  6. The ol' "that's just not how things work". The bullpen used to not be such a big deal. It was just how things worked. Until the Royals did it the way it didn't work and that worked. And these days starters are yanked at around 100 pitches, if that. That's just how things work, now. Any billionaire that wants to spend money, and even lose money because they have a passion and want to try something out of the box can, at any time. Billionaires just don't live "in real life". This is common knowledge. Billionaires just don't get in a balloon and try to circumnavigate the planet, it just doesn't work that way.... until Richard Branson did it. No doubt he has been told many times by others that many of the great things he has done.... that it just doesn't work that way. I hope they go for it and get Kimbrel. We had Pressly and can't get him back now. Kimbrel is going to pitch for some contender. It may as well be the Twins. Maybe the ownership and front office will just drive like a fast and reckless chariot commander, and take over MLB this season. It just might work that way. Then again, it might not. I bet Austin Adams doesn't last the month.
  7. He is hot and cold in Rochester, too. Went down and got rocked in his first appearance. 5.40 ERA for Rochester, 5.63 ERA for the Twins (I only get 4 consecutive scoreless innings, in 5 appearances, 1 of which was a 1 batter walk). I wish he would find it. Maybe the Houston staff could help him? https://www.mlb.com/player/fernando-romero-622864?stats=gamelogs-r-pitching-mlb&year=2019
  8. My sentiments exactly. This trade feels like Ramos for Crapps, even worse. I hated it, hate it, and will continue to hate it. Prospects aren't the present need. A reliever like Pressly was the need then, and certainly is now. No way you could trade the same prospects for Pressly now.
  9. I don't know. You can spend the time to find out and look it up, though, if you really want all the details. Bases loaded no outs is different than bases loaded 2 outs and you give up a first pitch double that clears the bases, or three walks and they all score before you get a ground out. That's why they call it relief, I guess. But it certainly matters, just like giving up 5 runs after an error that makes them all unearned, and one gave up 5 consecutive hits and a couple walks and 15 games later all that is talked about is the ERA. ERA is not the most important stat line, just one of them. (Harper's ERA is certainly misleading, and the ship has sailed to use Hildenberger's ERA since all-star break last year as a defense of his prowress. That's not a small sample, and it is the most recent time period).
  10. 8 of the 15 runners Harper has inherited have scored. That's 53.3%, and at one time it was 7 or 12! So there is that test......... The teammates that got credit for those runs know that test. Early in the season, when Hildenberger was being praised (and a coulple of games he deserved praise), he had also given up 5 inherited runs, but his ERA was 0.00. Those stats speak for themselves, too, but are often disregarded, not included, or not even considered. That said, Harper is in the mix, and there are worse in the pen. May has inherited 10, and stranded them all! 32 year old Austin Adams? Who? I think that even if one thought a signing was good, if it becomes a failure, then regardless of expectation, the fact is it was a failure, for whatever reason. It can't still be a good signing just because you thought at the time it was. But that is a part of the budget, or should be at least, just like surprise repairs to a rental building. So don't stop tying to get free agent help. Get Kimbrel.
  11. 11 scoreless innings...... when you don't consider the 5 inherited runners scored during those 11 innings, and that brings things back into perspective. His teammates are familiar with those runners scoring, especially the ones who got all those runs in their stat line. ..... sorry. I see this is redundant. I typed it before reading further. Like minds......
  12. The best thing that can happen is to have a fresh bullpen, and these guys go up and down on the option train. This could be good, or as good as one can hope for at least, given the personel.
  13. Just about 10 days late sending Hildenberger down. It was so obvious, but they just had to let it get worse and worse. I was surprised that he was on the roster out of spring training after the end of last year and this ST. To give him the 9th today.... what is Baldelli thinking? That he will miraculously change in a day or two? At least he had a few games that he shined to have hope for the remake of his game. This series, it's not just the bullpen. Starters were getting tagged. 9 hits against Odorizzi in 5.1 (18 total against for the game), 12 against Berrios in 5.2 (15 total), and Gibson, who gets the most crap from the boards, 6 against in 5.2 (11 total). The whole staff was pretty bad. Pretty amazing they won two of the 3 one run games.
  14. I had to look it up to see why you were going all -san. https://www.sljfaq.org/afaq/titles.html Houston doesn't seem to have any trouble blowing out Detroit.
  15. Putting Addison Reed on the active roster would be horrible. Like bringing Perkins back that September when it was so obvious it was over for him. Not now. Not for this team. What a waste of 16 million. The guy was productive for what? a month? Maybe 2? I feel for him, but the only other thing to do would be to IL him for a longer period, like 60 days....
  16. Odd bullpen useage. Especially with Rodgers. Bringing him back after 2 innings and 30+ pitches yesterday. Parker looks like toast to me. This could be a tragic 9th inning.
  17. Was that a "shift worked" play?
  18. Houston Manager, Hinch, said in an interview pre-game during one of the last playoffs, that Marwin was the best shortstop on the team, and the best third baseman (talking fielding not hitting). That is saying something considering Correa and Berkman.
  19. I hope not either. It is clear, with pitching decisions that need to be made for next year, that these guys need to get an audition and see how close they really are. They could be. Regardless of all those who think they know, and even get paid to make the decisions - nobody knows until they have the opportunity and get a look. Nobody. Oh..... and Graterol still wants his consonant back.......... good job on Balazovic, though.
  20. So why not trade them ALL right away, while everyone thinks they have hope? Trade for MLB talent all the time, right away, as soon as they show promise. Using the analytical approach, aren't the all important probability odds indicating that would be the best way to build a team, then, since the odds are overwhelmingly indicating that most all picks will fail? Like the all decision to constantly employ the shift. It's all about the odds. Activate the moves by percentage probabilites. And then, with the same reasoning, why ever be concerned with draft picks when it comes to free agency? Even if it is a number one pick, odds are the pick will be a waste of time, anyway.
  21. Walker Buehler was picked at #24 in the first round by the Dodgers!
  22. Tyler Jay. Man, I just don't see the reason to not release him. I mean, he is still in AA! And even though he can have a good game, and has..... add the 3 inherited runners scored to his line and he really tanked another. Don't ya love how a 9 inning game in the minors can be extra innings? 12 Ks in 5 innings. Jordan Balazovic is a monster.
  23. I don't have the stats, or know how to find them, but I remember many times that the shift has hurt us badly, but don't remeber where it has helped. I am sure it might have, but I remember lots of grounders into the shift that were hit where the fielder would have been anyway, even without the shift. I wonder how they keep stats on the effectiveness. I am not a fan so far, at all.
  24. That pitch from Berrios to Otani was so right down the middle with no movement.
