Lynn's implosion to start the year can just be thrown out the window? Remember, this is after TJ surgery that took 2016 and some of 2017. A good month can be disregarded very easily for Gibson, but for Lynn? I won't be holding my breath for a substantial return if Lynn is traded. He still has to pitch well for another month. That is yet to be seen. I hope he does.

Add the 2 inherited runners scored to Reed's 4 earned in the last 5 innings (it was the first game of this run). Those runs lost a game, too. The pen is imploding, and Militor has worn out the two that were doing the best. Not anymore.

Article: What's Wrong with the Twins? A Fizzling Core
h2oface replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Coaches are there to help fix, find changes, for the batters that aren't hitting, no? When a player hits, no matter what they are doing, there is no coaching. Leave them alone. They coach themselves and develop confidence. Now...... when that reverses, and the batter is struggling.... now you coach them. In the end, it is all on the player to be the player. Most of the time, the off field activity isn't involved at the plate. The batter just isn't performing. -

I am sorry. Almost always almost always means almost always to me. In fact, it does. Not almost always, but always. Does it to you? In regards to Revere, when he did hit .300, he always had a job, regardless of the power stats. -

The batting average, and the low BABIP is not fine. It is way low. Breakouts include batting average, or should, even in this day and age were new stats try to be used to say it doesn't. You hit .300 in this league, and the rest of the stats almost always fill in fine, and are then just for stat nerds, and I like stat nerds. -

?? Reed had a fine outing, first one in the last 5. He did help. So I don't know what you mean ?? Reed didn't even need to be used in this game behind by 3 runs in the 9th, and needs to stop being overused. This was another example of Molitor overusing the pen personnel! 15 pitches and a warm up his arm didn't need to do. -

Is Sano a regular? He hasn't played that much this year. And hey, he is just 24! Seems that if one is going to use it to suggest he has an excuse (not saying you have, but many do, and if the shoe fits.....) for his regression because of it.... then it goes that he can be sent to AAA to get it back together, just like any other egotistical brash 24 year old that can't control his behavior, weight, or swinging at balls way out of the zone and striking out at a record pace. Past time for a wake up call, I think. -

I don't know how you are interpreting my Gardenhire reference, but to be clear, I meant it as another reason why Detroit should be even worse..... and a disadvantage. The fact that they have sold the farm AND hired Gardenhire, and this team trails them, is appalling. -
Article: What's Wrong with the Twins? A Fizzling Core
h2oface replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins are 9th out of 15 teams in the AL in just about every pitching category, about the bottom third or below the mean in the MLB. It isn't just Buxton and Sano. The pitching is improved, but still hurting, and the bullpen is being abused and mismanaged by the MOY. The teams with the best records are in the top of the pitching stats by a good bit. I can't ignore that. Improved pitching, yes. But it is more than a couple of players. Every team has injuries and players out. This is a leadership and management problem. New coaches that were supposed to be saviors. Falvey and Levine's guys. How is that working out? I don't have any answers either, but this team is so very disappointing. And it isn't just Buxton and Sano (who I would immediately send to Rochester for a wake up call). Why Gordon is not called up is incredulous to me. The pundits seem a lot more credible than the homers right now. But hey....... it's nothing a 20 game winning streak won't cure. -

This is proving to be one disappointing team. You may say Sano is only 24, but all he has been doing since 16, and before too, is playing baseball. I think he needs a wake up, and sent to Rochester. Molitor has totally mismanaged the bullpen. Why was Reed even in the game tonight? They can't even score from second on a double. again! They can't even beat the White Sox, and Santiago, and Detroit traded almost all their stars, and hired Gardenhire, and they are better than the Twins. This is a real disappointing team. -
I could care less how much a player costs is dollars. It is not my money. It is nobody's money that seems to want to control payroll here at TD. Just because Realmuto has been good, doesn't mean he will continue..... look at Logan Morrison, and look at how fast the demise was for Mauer. Lucroy was so so valuable, and then in one season, he was on the cheap, and went from one of the best framers, to one of the worst. Realmuto is over valued, I think, just like I think Sano is. None of the pieces ready (like Gordon) should go until it is decided what to do with Dozier and Escobar for next year. Plus, banking on Polanco is a mistake, just like banking on Santana and May. It sucks to have injuries, but Castro was a 2019 lame duck (thankfully) before the injury, and now will be a high priced back up. MOY using Wilson for the main catcher is a joke, though. I am afraid the catcher problem will have to be addressed in the off season, even if Ramos is acquired for the rest of the year.

I am glad they gave Reed the day off, what with his problems the last 4 consecutive appearances now. It would have been even more excellent of the pen if Magill could have waited an inning to give up his only hit instead of on the second pitch, and kept us in the game......but man, Magill has sure been a great addition so far. Hopefully, the reigning MOY will not overuse him like he has Reed and Pressly (who also got the day off). I consider it fortunate that they boys got out of there with a split, today, after their non support of Romero. Good to see Romero rebound. Time to crush the second worst team in baseball this year.

Only exists because the creator thought himself cute, and then people repeat it. Who needs prospects, anyway. We need MLB pitchers. Hence, I could care less about the 3rd round and comp pick. Who needs another top pick to follow forever in the minors and then they are released or traded or retire a career minor leaguer. Kohl Stewart and Tyler Jay and Wheeler and Levi Micheal come to mind. Buxton is still trying to hit MLB pitching consistenly. I can't wait until all picks can be traded. It is way overdue.

If pitchers that walk that many can be in the Twins rotation, what is the big deal in AAA? Myself, never a fan of a bunch of walks, but, I would rather a pitcher walks them than serve up the homer meat. Ordoizzi (3.71 BB/9 and 14 homers in 12 games) seems to be doing both, and that seems just fine with most. Lynn (6.11) and Duke (5.03) BB/9 has established a new ceiling for what is acceptable it seems.

Looking at those stat summaries, I don't see why Busenitz isn't the winner of May. In my world, AAA gets the nod of AA, when they are that close, regardless of the back story.

Well, every minor league report prospect summary has Garver on it, and he hasn't been in the minors for all this year and the end of last. I seems that in Twins Territory and Twins Daily lore, anyone can be a prospect.

I understand an 80% chance to stay at catcher, or 100, or 50 or 20, or even zero. I have no idea what non-zero means. Seems that if people want to communicate, they won't do it in code. Non-zero could mean anything then? Like anywhere between zero and 100% chance? Now that is sticking your predictive neck out, big time. I find it interesting that this FO spends 24 million or so on a catcher that can't hit, because they like glove first, but they draft a hitting catcher, but don't sign a Ramos or a hitting catcher to play for the Twins.
-
I would call Dozier consistently underrated, not overrated. Unless you just want to ignore the last several years final numbers. You may find him overrated, but predictions are always he will do worse, and he has just gotten better for that 4 or 5 year run. If six and a half games out with 2/3 of a season is the end of the season, most teams should just quit now. Will they? Nope. That is because it isn't close to a selling point.

Even more inclusive, this is a long time losing team's tradition. If a team is losing, it is a universal condition. Following one team so closely, it is easy to think these things just happen to the team of interest.- 19 replies
