    The whole team played worse (whether by actual performance or being on the field) in 2019 than in the total of the shortened 2020 (except Maeda, who wasn't on the team in 2019 - does Jeffers count? no MLB experience to compare?). But yet, none of the prospects were given a shot to supplant them during 2020. When you are in first, or so close to it, it is hard to make that move, but yet, they put Kirilloff in cold IN THE PLAYOFFS! So go figure. The whole team needs to rebound.... or we just saw the open window's counter weight break and now it is closed.

    Rotate players through the DH that at their best projections and performances regarding left/right are significantly worse than Cruz. Sure. That is a great idea. I am totally sold by all the arguments. Make room for extra at bats that will perform signigicantly worse. Yup. That is a better fit, for sure.

    Was there any starting player from 2019 on the Twins that had a better year in 2020? But they are keepers, nontheless, and most should be. I wanted DJ LeMahieu two years ago, and I want him now. That is a prize. I'm not buying on Arraez as the best direction at second - I like him in a utility/back-up role. And when it comes to rotating bats that perform well below Cruz in the DH spot, just to get them at bats..... I hate that stategy.

    An apologist, by definition, is one who speaks in defense of (not one who is apologizing for). So I am not suggesting Falvey needs much apologizing for, at all, and I agree with you. I was noticing your defense of him, when I was meaning to speak in general, and had not even accused him personally. I am a proud apologist for many people and things and ideas, and don't apologize for it at all. I also embrace being a baseball nerd. I am even a baseball nerd apologist.

    It was meant to be a general observation. Not personal. But I have no problem with a Falvey apologist. I don't know how the decision will turn out, and I am not advocating for Wisler or Falvey. I had taken a bit of a break from the boards..... I guess I forgot how the internet works.

    could be..... could be "a person whose views or actions have great influence over trends in social behavior." "an arbiter of taste" could be used to descibe other nuances. Perhaps not the most concise analogy.... I hope you understood the point.

    This is what baseball has become. A somewhat "minority report" hybrid. It doesn't matter what you accomplish and how you actually perform, it only matters how an observer might think you will perform. It is not your thoughts and actions that count, it is some pencil pushing baseball nerd's that can't even come close to performing if they tried.

    1. Greg Gagne - 2 rings, Twins' HOF 2. Dean Chance - 3 seasons.... 3. Nelson Cruz - 2 seasons..... he would rise if he sticks around and rakes, for sure. 10. Eddie Guardado - always hated seeing him come in a game - rarely enjoyable.

    Prospects can be busts, sure. So can the player's on the cheap. Do they earn their spot, or are they given it with hopes of yesteryear. Even more likely to suck than to rebound. They just take up roster space. I mean.... they are already being tossed! I hate going cheap. It just blocks the path, or delays it, of the prospects that your "stellar farm system" has ready. I love going prospects pounding on the door. Are they ready? I see it all the time.... all over the league, that many are, they just have to be given the opportunity. And if they shine before you thought they would, you have just wasted less time. Was Jeffers ready? Many said no. Many were wrong.

    My bet is none of those eligible get picked. Watching all these teams bring up guys that perform right away.... I personally don't see the quality among the unprotected. Quantity of good and very good, but not special. And that is the kind you want to make the show. If none get picked, I guess 29 other teams agree.

    The Twins seem to have no concern about dumping a Minor League franchise location. I don't see it as a history to bank on for the Saints ownership. Is it against the rules for the Twins to pony up the 20 million? It seems to be only fair. Otherwise, just what are the benefits to the Saints? I don't see any. And how is the scheduling to come down. If both are playing in the same town on the same day, I don't see how competing with themselves for fans in the seats is a good arrangement.

    Easy formula. Sign D.J LeMahieu, Trevor Bauer, and re-sign Nelson Cruz. Sano as DH? A strikeout specialist as a DH? LeMahieu was the prize missed by the Twins two years ago. He still is. Arraez is a utility guy. Not great in the field, and not so savvy running bases. Sign Trevor Rosenthal too.

    Bauer has always said he wants to bet on himself with one year deals. With the uncertainty of the economic climate of 2021..... why not let him blow himself up if he wants to... pay him what he can get for one year, and let him try it. I like the idea. He may prove the baseball world wrong. Maybe not to devo-lve it, but it could work for him and the Twins for one year. Maybe more. Maybe not at all. But it could be great. And he wouldn't have to pitch to Kepler in a game that counted. All starters did it for a long time.

    How exciting. Especially an out of shape beanball pitcher.

    Bunting hits are there for the taking. There should be no limiting choices for defending. Offenses can kill the shift anytime they want with well placed bunts. And bunts are a pretty action packed play. Beat them at their own game. Offenses are rarely even trying.

    I feel lucky that Romo didn't just bomb and was as good as he was. Thankful that he will not be pitching on this team in the future. Baldelli seemed to think that just because he closed years ago, that he was a good option with the game on the line. Never a fan of a junk ball slow slider only pitcher for a closing or late inning role. I really hope there is no "lost cost" reunion in the works. Bring on youth!

    Sometimes, we just want to invision someone is something that was what we want them to be. "For several years, Rogers was as good as it gets." Several? I would say about one full year, and that was the second half of 2018 and the first half of 2019. If that is several, I agree.

    I have always hated letting a run score from third early in the game, and going for a double play, instead. I still do. Stop the run. Never concede a run. Runs matter most. Outs not as much. I would always rather have the score 0-0 and runners on first and second and one out, than behind 1-0 and no runners on and 2 outs. No matter what inning. But a traditionalist will fansplain every time that that is how you play baseball.... you give up the run early in the game and take the 2 outs to prevent a big inning. That single run could end up being the game, and you just conceded it, on purpose, for a measly out.

    I think they have always been guessing poorly. Worse? I don't count, but I remember and see far too many wrong calls. If they used the tools that have been developed to get better, and actually reviewed their work for an hour after a game, it seems it would show. But why use a guesser, when you can use the tool that teaches the guesser? It was time years ago.....

    The AL Central won one game in the postseason. 1-6. There was an opportunity to have 3 of the 4 teams in the ALDS round from the Central. Instead there were none. Instead of the teams showing the world that the Central means some of the best competion, we showed exactly the opposite, and this is a deceptively weak division.You are your record. Talk all you want, you are your record. As long as the Twins go with good stories instead to fill out the roster, instead of improving the team to win in a short postseason series, I don't see anything changing, except more balls being hit through the shift. I hope we get some of the top prospects onto the team before they are in the mid/upper 20s. You see these young 21, 22, 23 yr olds getting opportunities even on the 4 teams left in the playoffs......

    Everyone under contract for the coming season is a great $ value (other than perhaps Donaldson). Nothing needs to be done in regards to moving any of them. Not Kepler. Not Sano. Not Palanco. Not Maeda. Not Berrios. Not Arraez. Not Buxton. Not Garver. The prospects will either push them out, or they won't. To assume they will is crazy. Make them. This could happen next spring. Injuries will force them into a roll and they might not give it back, or they will. Add professional MLB players by trading prospects, and ok to add regulars if it improves the team, and not just stocks more prospects in the minors (which didn't even play this year), or sign free agents to improve the team. But to assume that this was anything other that the weirdest season ever with a stop/starting beginning and a short sprint to the finish that mostly 20 somethings had to deal with, and how it affected them each uniquely, is crazy. Sure, improve the team. Spend. Sign an ace. Or two. But this is not a desperate time. Kepler and others are not done. This is a very strange time. Maybe a good time to see if you can get Yelich. He really sucked too. Do you think he is toast? I don't.

    Hicks for John Ryan Murphy. At least Hicks can get some hits in the post season. That would have been nice this year......

    After reading all this......... it is amazing that our team won two ALC crowns in a row. I'm not saying the there aren't changes to be made, but nothing is certain that prospects can become stars. This was a weird year. A shortened COVID year. I am not ready be an advocate for trashing the whole team, though.
