  1. When you have a World Series Champion, and almost all your team is returning.... then standing pat as a strategy is maybe understandable. But those teams still make moves to improve! When you digressed and sucked? Not so much. Make that not at all. I feel the Ghost of Connie Mack applauding, though. Anyone can stand pat. Not the leadership that I was hoping for. I can't pretend to understand.
  2. But wasn't Bill Smith just Terry Ryan in a Bill Smith costume?
  3. ....but after the 2018 season, they certainly wouldn't have wanted to resign him and for me, it would be added to the failure of free agents picked by the FO so far. How about you? If his 2018 season had been for the Twins... would you then want to resign him?
  4. Career lines are often noted when players are coming off a year of drastic decline. The future doesn't care about career stats, though. The teams that had both of these guys last year..... all 4 of them.... cast them off and don't want them back. The teams and management the most familiar with them. Sure, any player could have a comeback year. Maybe they both will. But I can't not pay attention the the recent trend. Hopefully Schoop will be the first pick up by this front office that really shines. I'm not betting any money on it, though.
  5. I thought I read that the FO felt that the one year veterans were not good for the team and team chemistry. One foot out the door as the season starts.....
  6. And Dozier is one year removed from a 4.5 WAR.... 0.7 higher than the 3.8 of Schoop. And I didn't see excitement for the idea of Dozier returning. I don't see this FO doing anything special until they see if Sano and Buxton and Kepler .... and Rosario and Berrios and Gibson ..... all show improvement. This all seems a lot like a deja vu of last off seasons quality of moves. If they are shooting for a .500 team or worse, this is just fine. If they want to compete.... these are uninteresting moves.
  7. Yuk. I sense another Morrison season coming. I hope the Twins do better. Like Goldschmidt (31 until September). Or Donaldson. Oh wait, too late. Still........ I for one, hope they do better than another overweight older vet. 32 years old (33 in April) and ready for decline. He may get on base with walks, but good luck scoring from first on a double, or getting to 3rd on a single. The Twins hardly need another .220ish hitter.
  8. It is so hard for me to consider, imagine, or accept, that CJ Cron can make any MLB player irrelevant.
  9. Hey.... we got JC Cron... or is it CJ Cron? Whatever. And his 89 career homers come with him! Morrison redux on the even cheaper, and as a cast off and not even a free agent! And then gave him a contract instead of arbitration! That is some clever shopping. Who needs stars when there is the waiver wire? And we have prospects. Always prospects.
  10. May and Romero can go long from the pen. I like that. Perhaps either could close, too. Never impressed with May as a starter, and Romero can still be moved to start, ala Johan Santana. It would be great to use Kepler for versatility. Especially if he hits for average and OPS. Totally ambivalent about A-stud. Time will tell, if he gets the chance.
  11. A real yawner. Has an upside. Has doubts. It makes me want to take a nap, and I just woke up.
  12. we could sign Donaldson and trade for Tulo, and whether they ever stay on the field or not, if we use career stats... they will look good on paper,
  13. I think weight is always an issue. Always. And not just for Sano and all athletes (especially athletes) but for everyone. It is hardly ever easy to control one's weight in our gluttonous culture, where now over 70% of Americans are either overweight or obese. But it can be done. It just takes desire and focus and work. I wish him self control and discipline, and a 2019 that makes him a superstar.
  14. I was waiting for the other comparisons to Puig, like the off field behavior, attitude, showboating, etc..... which also fits like a glove. Sano is the Twins' Puig, in many ways. He has had Yasiel Moments.... just off the field. His off-season start with running over a cop's leg (accidently or not) at 3 in the morning outside a bar is not a great bump in the transition we are all hoping for. Perhaps the biggest failing these contracts have, and perhaps club policy, is not having a mandatory ongoing support seminar and cultural type of education schedule to help these too rich kids become a mature adult and player. Or something like that. I really hope that one day, an all-star selection is made from better critera than a hot first 2 1/2 months of the current season. Lots of players get exceptionally hot for a couple months, but are no where near a true all-star.
  15. I commend you for the creative positivity of the headline, creating excitement, and enticing the the read to find Blankenhorn is ripping it up in the AFL. That isn't easy with a .188/.316/.250 line. All in all, other than Smeltzer and Bray so far, this seems like a total bust for our Twins contingent.
  16. I don't read where anyone here, including myself, is holding not being fluent in spanish against Baldelli. It became a discussion point, and a worthy one in this day and age. As for intelligence having nothing to do with being able, especially as an adult, to learn an additional language, or even want to....... well, I disagree. As hard as it is, it can't hurt, and will certainly help. Being around others that speak the language, and them helping as one starts the process, is also so very helpful. Just taking classes, and not having an outlet to try it and make mistakes and learn nuances and dialects from those that do is much harder and slower to have it take, for sure.
  17. Buxton started the year healthy and the hope was the last two months of 2017 would carry over. He sucked in 2018 until he got hurt, and then he got hurt and sucked. Lots of players hit well for a couple of months in the show. Even Danny Santana for more than 2 months. Buxton really needs to perfrom now. It is really past time to do his thing, if it is going to happen.
  18. Me too (no hashtag). I wouldnt' really expect the old farts (older than 50) to necessarily be progressive and innovative enough to actually do something so very important for communication these days, but young, evolved, aware, and smart people that want to be great managers and coaches going forward.... I would think it would be part of their canon.
  19. I like a guy with a goodfellas first name and that wears his hair upside down. Looking forward to 90 and 100 wins seasons starting NEXT YEAR!
  20. I surprises me that a guy with a 4.25 GPA with Ivy league schools a possibility.... hasn't learned to speak Spanish fluently in the last 8 years.... I guess it surprises me that anyone that wants to manage or coach in the MLB now hasn't, or isn't in the process of learning Spanish now.
  21. Counting "likes" now? Perfect qualification for admission in a jr high girl's school....... But I don't know.... they might require previous experience.
  22. We? Us? Do they all know what "a Chicken-Soup-Is-Goo-For-The-Soul franchise" means? I can't even find it on google!
  23. Here, here! Even Twins' fans seam to pretend cheaters are acceptable. That is not name calling, it is a historical reference. Very recent history, at that.
  24. There is no core. No core 2, no core 3, no core 4, no core anything. Maybe at the end of next year this can be a discussion with merit. If you settle for any of our players being core right now, your expectations will be self fulfilling mediocrity or worse.
