  1. So Castro wanted it in the wheelhouse, with absolutely no movement? I don't think so. Castro didn't throw the pitch there. I'm not betting on him..... weith 5/8 inherieted runners scored so far. But I thought that from the get go, when they announced he had made the roster. I might have prejudice. Like ST counts, eh?
  2. It only makes me think of how frustrating, for years time 2, that Alcala & Celestino will be if and when they even make it to the show. Wait 3 to 4 years for them to show up, and then inconsistent and frustrating for a couple more....... I want to forget about that already.
  3. Waiting is truly overrated. To me, doesn't matter how Alcala & Celestino ever become in the future. The Pressly trade made our team worse. We need him NOW and for the next few years.... not maybe in 2 or 3 years, or maybe even more (and then go through several years of inconsistency, like Pressly, before becoming a player like Pressly had become, and worth a trade for another team). We already had a need, and the trade made it worse. Alcala & Celestino may be great (I'll take money that they won't and won't even make the show....) and they may be a bust. Doesn't matter. This trade did not make the team better. If and when they might, it still doesn't matter, because it made this team worse. Could our staff had helped Pressly develop further? I don't know. They had their chance for years. That is the only question I have.
  4. The most notable performer in the bullpen was actually Ryne Harper, who pitched three times and allowed zero runs on three singles while recording 15 outs. He's fast changing his narrative from "good story" to "good reliever." It seems the rest of the story is left out again. Harper was also 2/3 (5/8 on the season) inherited runners scored for the week, coming in against Toronto on Tuesday to bail out Gibson and hold the fort with runners on 1st and 2nd with one out and the Twins only down 2-1 in the 6th ..... and let them both score with a pair of singles before he walks away with a 0.00 ERA (a 2/2 outing). Am I the only one that thinks that is a big part of a reliever's story - the inherited-runners scored - and should always be included in a discussion of their perfomance? The Twins lost the game by one... 6-5, so those two runs that were charged to Gibson but let in by Harper, were significant. Harper came in in the 4th with 2 outs and a runner on second on Thursday after Pineda had just imploded and turned a 3-1 lead into a 6-3 deficit, and struck Galvis out swinging on 4 pitches. Harper continued to pitch 3 more stellar innings, and kept the score at 6-3. Now that was impressive, albeit with a much lower pressure threshold. I really hope Harper continues to improve and baffle. We certainly need it in the pen.
  5. Bullpen solid....... that made me laugh..... Congrats to Harper, who came in with a runner on second, and got the last out in the 5th, and improved his inherited runners scored from 5/8 to 5/9! And continuted to pitch 3 more 1 hit scorless innings! Now that is what we need. Relief. Sad series all in all. 1-3 to Toronto. At home. Damn.
  6. Thursdays outing accents your concerns.
  7. Vasquez. 2 walks and a hit and an earned run and a K. Looks like he is still trying to find the plate after the debacle in the show. Rochester seems to have the same kind of pen as the Twins. I am a bit surprised at Lewis' start. Really thought he would murder High A in a return to the same level. Wasn't it Littell that was something like 19-1 on the year in A+ and AA when we got him in 2017? Our system seems to not be so good for him, or something.
  8. Cron is sooooooooooooo sssssssllllllloooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Maybe he should be called tortuga.
  9. Vasquez replaced by Duffey. He got one outing, and at the wrong time to put him in the game. He was horrible, but he shouldn't even have been put in the game with the bases loaded for his first and only MLB appearance. Now Duffey. A proven commodity, eh?
  10. "Hildenberger came in and struck out back-to-back hitters. In 5 1/3 innings this year, he has allowed zero runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and one walk. Hildy is throwing 70% strikes with a 17.5% whiff rate." Hey, I am as happy as the next fan for Hildenberger saving Parker's mess and closing out the 1 game in spectacular fashion. But let's get real here. That was just days after letting 3 inherited runners score while coming in with the bases loaded in the Philly debacle. The save was a spectacular one game performance. Parker is surely not my choice for closing, but people calling for his DFA (not on this thread but game threads) is ridiculous. He is doing well in the pen mostly. And so is Hildenberger. But talking about reliever's performances and stats without including the inherited runners scored is just academically unsound and intellectually dishonest. The reliever's job is relief, and if they just pass on the poor stats to the previous pitcher while looking clean, that is not relief, and it speaks to their value probably as much if not more than those stats that were noted. I certainly hope that Hildenberger does not become the closer. Right now, I think the Twins don't have one. Rodgers may not be one either, and he is currently my choice, but getting no opportunites. All good set up options, but we need a closer. Any great closers on the free agent market? But make no mistake.... 8-4 looks real sweet at the end of the week.
  11. After 8 or so games.... I am really surprised at how poorly so many of the top prospects are doing. I sure hope that changes.
  12. How about that graphic of Vasquez's pitch locations!
  13. Hildenberger did allow runs last night... 3/3 inherited runners scored. They had not scored until he was on the mound. Just because it doesn't count on his ERA doesn't mean he hasn't allowed a run! He allowed 3 last night. I'm not saying to option him. Not at all. Inherited runs count, none the less.
  14. Does anyone have a link to a Baldelli interview after todays game? I really want to hear what he said... how he explains himself....
  15. It seems mental, to me. Odorizzi pitched a no-hitter through 4, and the 4 pitch walk should have been a K, as all 4 pitches showed to be a strike on pitch f/x. Something is not clicking in his head. The 11 strikeout game he pitched was just as real as the first inning the start in Philly and the 5th inning today.
  16. Tweeting you don't need Kimbrel every time a reliever has a bad outing and the the reaction is to sign him...... is weak. This does not have to be the team we've got. If so, why sign Cron and Gonzales and Cruz and Schoop et al as well. This is the team we've got is so very very weak. The team can be anyone that is signed. Including Kimbrel. And tweeting is weak... period. Magill and Moya and Reed? How unexciting and not the answer. Just more dirt in the engine.
  17. Because Gibson has not found consistent command of his pitches in all of 2 starts to begin the season.... does not mean he is "nibbling", as trendy as it is to accuse him of. Missing is not nibbling. Gibson seems to be the Rodney Dangerfield of the Twins staff. Maybe one day he will actually get some respect. deGrom should be chastised for the same, I guess.
  18. Buxton swung at a slider about a foot outside just before he hit one of his doubles on a high fastball.
  19. I too was old enough.... 13 in 1968. I was wondering... just what was he clocked at 103.4 with in the 1960s?
  20. I guess there is always that hope that it will change, and the Ks will be reasonable and the fielding will get good enough.....but I think you pretty much do know, and when they face even better pitching and fielding than the minors, things aren't really going to change. But hope is captivating, if not productive at times.
  21. All of that and Stewart only gets charged with one earned run. Sometimes the stats are kind.
  22. 3rd base production has been horrible. I don't know how much he will have to work. He will be welcome. He can't really do any worse, but I hope he will be "extra-motivated" just the same.
  23. Most encouraging part of the game for me was to see Hildenberger, a purveyor of inherited runners scoring, come in with the bases loaded and needing one out to get out of the inning.... and he did! That is how you spell relief! I really cringe when I see a one sentence statement that makes it appear that Harper has performed flawlessly. Against the Phillies in the first inning with the game only 2-0 on Friday - he let the game turn into a route and let all 3 runners with two outs score on the first pitch - a 74 mph hanging curve right down the middle that was blooped for a bases clearing double! (Albeit with some defensive gaffs) Just saying "Harper has now pitched 3 ⅓ scoreless innings for the Twins" really is not telling the story. He did get the last out in the 8th after Rodgers had to be lifted with 2 out and runners on 2nd and 3rd on Sunday. So he is 3/5 inherited runners scoring. That is also part of his young story. I love that a Gibson was on the mound opposing deGrom when he was prevented from breaking Bob Gibson's record. A tie is good enough, especially since most of Gibson's streak was complete games. Third base production 0-5 today, and continues to suffer. But clearly not needed today...... De Jong threw 46 pitches in the 9th? Whoa.
