  1. Graterol and Littell still want their consonants back, but I suspect Rogers is happy that he isn't being call Rodgers, and is thankful for that. I would have had a pitcher, Berrios, that had only given up 1 earned run, and had just had a 1-2-3 4th, come out for the 5th with only 88 pitches, and see what happened from there.
  2. Berrios gave up 1 earned run in 4 innings. ONE. His defense let him down, and had a lot to do with increasing his pitch count. He should have been out of the 3rd with only one run given up. Plus, if the robots were calling balls and strikes, it would have been a lot different. Still, he had a very fine 1-2-3 4th inning on 12 pitches, and the game was tied going into the bottom of the 5th. Berrios could have gone more than 4. It certainly wasn't his choice. He wasn't that far off with his breaking stuff..... it was just the Yankees are too good to go for it. Berrios only had 88 pitches when pulled, and it was a tie game. To say he wasn't doing a good job is just an opinion that I don't agree with. We need more than 4 runs. The offense needs to step up, just like they did all year. Garver 0-5, Rosario 0-5, Cron 0-4, and Kepler 0-2 went a combined 0-16. They have to have a better game, today.
  3. ??? Scherzer pitched in the 8th in relief for an inning.... his bullpen day..... but it was Strasburg that started and went 6. Same point, but the wrong pitcher?
  4. It hit his glove. I saw Justin Turner make that play tonight (or was it yesterday). So add him to Arenado. I have seen lots of players make that play. I still remember my little league coach.... if it hits your glove, you should catch it. It was still a play that could have been made. Was it harder? Yes. Did it hit his glove? Yes. Are heroes made in the post season, with plays like that? Yes.
  5. The only way to stop it......... is to win some playoff games. It won't stop until then. And hey, it is pretty remarkable. 14 and counting.
  6. You think if the score is tied in the bottom of the 6th that Rocco goes with Stashak? I don't. I think if you could have gotten a clean inning out of Littell, Duffey would have gotten the 6th, and we see Romo and Rogers. Regardless, those plays were run scoring game changers. But the good news is..... we have a rested Rogers and Romo and May if we get to those innings with a lead. Berrios had a good 4th. 12 pitch. 1-2-3. Pitch count at 88. I would have brought him out for the 5th with the game now tied, with a short leash.
  7. Cron catches the throw to first. Sano catches the hot shot to third by Torres that bounced off his glove and turns a double play..... big game changers.
  8. If it was just Berrios, and earned runs...... the game isn't lost and would have been 4-1. I don't disagree that Berrios struggled for the out pitch, but even with the unearned runs....... leaving the game in a tie has never been why any team loses a game.
  9. What would you call what Nuke Littell did? Bob Gibson had the control to do that, even if it was always cowardly. He was good enough not to need it, even. If you don't have the stuff to actually get batters out, just try to not throw at them but try to but not really but kinda but if you do hit them claim you didn't mean to and it just got away? Hard to dress that skat up. Being a really good pitcher might be what is missing here. To consider what really good pitchers have done, and replicate them, means you have to be a really good pitcher to start with, eh?
  10. DJ LeMahieu was so clearly the second baseman to sign. Cost nothing but $. No draft pick. 24 million for 2 years. Perfect. Somehow, this front office thought it was Schoop. Letting the Yankees see Graterol in a game like this to get used to him. WTF. 14 and counting. New guys. New team. But I saw them last night on the dance floor.........., and nothing had changed.
  11. The prospect rankings folks were all in on Turner the whole time they were both in the system. Garver was the Rodney Dangerfield. I never understood why. I think it was always about the defense. I always figured the defense, which he was already runner up to Turner and the Johnny Bench, was there and would get better, and he already could hit, something I thought Turner would never grow into. Really happy for Garver. I think his best is yet to come, too. I'm thinking MVP in the post season is in his future. I guess that means we at least get to the ALCS, and if he is to be an MVP we would be winning the ALCS and advance to the World Series, or winning the ALCS and the WCS.
  12. Although I guess it is related, I am not srprised at the low Ks, I am surprised about how much solid contact, and contact in general batters are making. And bottom orders, too. I know how old he is. It still surprises me. Lots of contact.
  13. Is Graterol of the pitch to contact school, only at higher speeds? No matter how long it lasts..... and it will last about, at minimum, at least almost a year for sure, and maybe much longer, depending on what becomes of the "ball"..... for the Minnesota Twins, our Minnesota Twins, to be the MLB all time record holder in Home Runs for a season is truly something, and not a throw away, and not connected to what may or may not happen in the Play-offs this year, at all. So whether one discounts it and doesn't care, it stands on its own, and it is a great achievement that no other team in the history of MLB has ever done, including the Yankees!
  14. Berrios. 100 + wins. The MLB home run record. Swing for the fences with no pressure. Let all the angst out. Have fun. Pros should always try to win. The fans deserve to get what they pay for. Always. I doubt that the Braves will be the team that represents the NL in the Series. But whatever, you play to win, even in this last series. I like not having home field advantage for the playoffs, especially considering how well this team does on the road, and how well it doesn't perform at home. If it is NY, Houston, and LA for a WCS run, without home field advantage all the way, I would love it. If we win...... it will only make it sweeter.
  15. If I am unable to find any evidence, that means I was looking for evidence, which I haven't found (yet, perhaps), which to me (and the Cambridge online dictionary), is a definition of investigation = "the act of examining something carefully, esp. to discover the truth about it."
  16. 4 hits (and 2 of them doubles and an earned run in the 8th, inheriting a 3 run lead and twice bringing up the tying run to the plate), in 2 innings.... with 4 strikeouts and no walks. Not my kind of "quite good", and probably not even good, necessarily. But in this case, to see how he might do out of the pen, or to get more used to it....certainly it did the trick and was OK. You gotta love 4Ks. I could do without 4 hits in 2....... but nothing got out of hand.
  17. A little early to have earned that long term respect from me for Arraez. I remember initial half seasons like Valencia and Santana. And even more recently, Astudillo (split at the end of last year and the beginning of this, but I was never on the turtle train). So not that I don't wish for the best, I am not sold, and certainly not on his defense to have a huge upside. But I am open to serving up adoration and respect with time. And right now I have few complaints.... and none at the plate, except a little power. Arraez has been a great addition, so far. So credit given, and reserving respect. Good problems to have, if any are a problem. I like the depth, and I certainly am not trying to predict the future of a couple of 20 year olds that both haven't even grown into their bodies yet. And I believe that Polanco can continue to get better and more consistant in the field. Javier won't play anywhere in the show if he doesn't start to hit. And Lewis will get all the benefits of all doubts and then some for some time to come. Draft Privilege. It's definitely a thing.
  18. Yes. Something is rotten here. Is it just Dyson? I mean, why wouldn't he bring it up? Did he just want to get out of San Fran for some reason? Something is fishy, if not rotten. Rotting fish, maybe.
  19. I dream about that. I think Bumgarner would have a resurgence to top form, ala Verlander. I like Dallas Keuchel, a lot, too, who can be signed without a draft pick compenstion. And Odo... I can't believe I am saying that, but as a #3, or 4...... I don't see them spending on Cole, and I bet Houston resigns him.
  20. Do you think that a team friendly contract will keep Polanco at SS if he continues to have throwing and fielding problems on routine plays, though? I'm not so sure that SS is Polanco's final home on the Twins', necessarily. Especially if someone develops that does better. One injury and an opportunity maximized, and Polanco could be holding down second, long term. He was voted the All-Star SS this year. It could very well be taken.
  21. Jose Devers (brother of the Red Sox' Rafeal Devers) is in the Marlins system, and the manager of the team is, too. That doesn't hurt his getting the call at SS. He progressed from the Gulfcoast League to High A this year. Geraldo Perdomo played A and High A and is in the Diamondback's farm, so is a "home teamer" in Arizona. There is also that, when we are considering "objectivity". They are both 19. It must be OK with the Twins' though. I still think playing as much as he can, and getting the at bats against quality pitching is the main goal here, and Lewis is athletic enough to play other positions to accomplish that goal, especially in meaningless exhibition type games where there is no need whatsoever to slam yourself into the outfield wall.
  22. Exactly. This is not the Twins' staff doing this. It happens frequently, to get players into the games in the AFL. Personally, it makes me nervous that opposing team's staff is the ones doing it (Only Luis Ramirez, pitching coach from Fort Myers, and Ben Myers from the traing staff is there, and the team is managed by Keith Johnson from the Marlins' AAA team, the New Orleans Baby Cakes’). I would much rather it be under the watch of the Twins' farm system. This is a real wild card, and a good way to get hurt.... like slamming into the centerfield wall. And I mean slamming. The development is for the at bats he missed by being hurt at the beginning of the year, and against very good competion. After all, he did not really rip it up at the plate this year, and that is being generous. Kirilloff was held out in the end because he had plenty, and was a bit dinged up. I wouldn't read too much into it, either, and I just hope he comes out of the AFL not getting hurt playing the outfield and getting "Buxtoned".
  23. In the AFL.... with the redundant position players, it is more likely that he can, and still be in the game, and someone that can't is playing SS that game. It makes me nervous, because of injury possibilities, and these games mean nothing, other than getting more at bats to improve against good pitching. I am not a fan of it, myself. I would rather he be progressing and playing a different position under the Twins watch, than someone from another team.
  24. "Willians Astudillo's (0-for-6) at-bats have become so uninspiring I had to finally pull the plug on the Willians Watch weekly tracker." Thank you.
