  1. I just don't see how getting completely dominated at home by Verlander is considered "holding your own" and would ever be seen in better light than a road win, regardless of the team.
  2. The front office in their 3rd season has the Twins 24 games above .500 and on pace to win 98 games. Two seasons ago when the Twins snuck into a WC game, a lot of people clamored and yelled when they didn't add, didn't trade pieces likes Kepler, Polanco, etc to bring in talent. It looks like not adding and trading young talent paid off. They added Perez, Cron, Gonzalez, Cruz in the offseason which all have paid big dividends. But now if they don't bring in any more players today, you have come to the conclusion that they can't get it done and should be replaced. I get being frustrated, but the overreactions around here sometimes are unbelievable.
  3. Matt Chapman's gold glove defense at 3rd base makes him a much more valuable player. Reyes has a nice power stroke, no doubt, but should rarely if ever see time in the field.
  4. Different front offices. You cannot compare.
  5. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Twins end up getting Will Smith.
  6. Why would they give up their #1 prospect to flip him? I can see them flipping him next year at the deadline if he doesn't want to extend and the Reds aren't a contender, but right now it doesn't make sense.
  7. Uh...why? Win is a win. Twins have won 4 of last 5 on this roadtrip. Don't need to score 10 runs every night to win a ballgame.
  8. After a brutal start Sano has an OPS of of .914, (which would be 7th in AL if he had enough PA to qualify) and Buxton's real only hold back is he cannot seem to stay healthy, he's having a better season than he did in 2016 when he put up 5.1 WAR. I would say they are both pretty choice pieces.
  9. I think that's a lot to ask for. Kluber isn't a spring chicken and wasn't exactly dominate in his 1st 7 starts, Salazar hasn't pitched in the majors in nearly 2 years and who knows what will happen with Carrasco. Sure, they could all come back strong, but I think it's a pretty iffy. Bieber-Clevinger is a nice 1-2 already unfortunately.
  10. Long term I would rather see the Indians with Reyes than Bauer, even though it didn't look like they would extend him anyways.
  11. Cincy with a trio of Castillo/Bauer/Gray, pretty nice top of the rotation.
  12. Lol Duffey just said in the post game interview that he told Rocco before the game if he needed a power hitting righty off the bench he's his man.
  13. The Cubs bullpen could possibly be in need of arms more than ours, I highly doubt they would trade Kintzler. There is about no reason the Giants would want Schoop if they are trading Bumgarner. A trade of Madbum means they are not competing and have basically zero use of a rental player like Schoop.
  14. I'm holding out for a flurry of deals in the last 8-10 hours but with NOTHING coming in, sure seems like it's going to be underwhelming.
  15. Just get out your highlighter and do the whole month of August and September to be safe
  16. I would pencil in Aug 19. That's the next day the Indians get a day off. In that the stretch of 20 games, the worst team they will face is a 53-53 Texas Rangers team. Included is 3 with HOU, 3 with BOS, 3 @ NYY and of course the 4 with us. The Twins need to take care of business in these next 6 with Miami and Kansas City
  17. I don't think it's a theory, the Twins had a lot of good teams, but rarely were they dominant. It just happens more times than not they faced a complete juggernaut in the Yankees in a the playoffs. Most of those teams had more All Star and HOF caliber players than some teams have ever had in their team's history. Not that I am using it as an excuse, but it needs to be noted. But this year, yes please make some moves.
  18. Kubel had knee problems off and on all year that year and Shannon Stewart was a starter who missed alot of the season with injuries as well. That series I will never forget Frank Thomas taking Johan deep twice in Game 1, and Torii Hunter making a very ill advised dive a fly ball in a tie game that resulted in a 2-run inside the park HR for Mark Kotsay. Frustrating times.
  19. That game sucked too. The Mauer foul ball call. Either way, the Twins rarely put up enough runs to win against those Yankee teams.
  20. Shouldn't that be precisely why they should move him now? Teams want controllable starters, he has a lot of value and the Rockies really aren't built to contend in the near future.
  21. I'd argue with you and say those losses were due to the Twins not scoring enough runs. I will add the Twins faced a lot of HOF caliber pitchers in that run. Pettite, Mussina, Clemens, Sabathia, Rivera all multiple times. Going back to 2002, here are the runs the Twins scored in playoff games in losing series: 2002: 2, 3, 1, 1, 5 2003: 3, 1, 1, 1 2004: 2, 6, 4, 5 (screw this series particularly) 2006: 2, 2, 3 2009: 2, 3, 2 2010: 4, 2, 1 I don't know how you can just look back and pin those losses on the pitching staff. 21 games, scored 5 runs or more 3 times. 13 times 2 or less runs.
  22. Berrios ERA is outperforming his FIP by nearly a run and his BABIP sits at a below league average .281. In terms of total defense fielding percentage and errors, the Twins are just a shade lower than league average.
  23. And I, like probably everyone here hope they do, but I would rather they come up short on deals like those who right now, both seem to be serious overpays by Chicago. Coming up short isn't a bad thing when someone else is willing to overpay, just how I see it. Davish has been worth about 1 WAR for the $40M they have paid him and Kimbrel has a FIP of over 8 in his first dozen appearances. "Winning" either bid would seem like a net loss to me right now. That being said, I hope they find a way to add before tomorrow night.
