  1. I hope you go to other local's website and write comments to their stories to shamelessly plug your book. Don't bother wwith the Leed's football team
  2. if you always do, what you have always done .you always get , what you have always gotten.... Ryan built teams that won 6 division titles. Is there anything wrong with that?
  3. Mackey's the first (at least that I've seen) to write about what actually went on during the organizational meetings. Seemed like a reasonable topic for discussion on a Twins forum. And to be clear, what I posted was a LINK to his post, not his actual post. Should have been more specific. I am not criticizing you or anyone else for posting a link. Mackey's blogs are being referenced a lot lately. At one time it was like Mackey was not viewed very highly on this board. Good work by others should be referenced as a topic for discussion.
  4. were yipping about fresh minds and young ideas...new blood not the good ole boy yes men that has staled the team and org. for a decade or so Bringing in a coach with specific duties of working with the catchers not a fresh idea? I do believe the core of the group brought together by Ryan won quite a few games. It was not maintained by Smith.
  5. Somebody ought to tell Mackey that he needs to make up a name and post his stories about the Twins on this board since people post them all lately.
  6. Interesting that those yipping about the front office needing young minds with fresh new ideas are not complaining about the 50 and 60 year olds hired as coaches.
  7. Post of the year From what I have read of Dave's posts I would believe he is serious.
  8. last time I checked this forum has been happy and aye-live (and killing it in ad revenues ) Thyrlos. In spite of you they are doing well. For the most part it is the analytic ability of the organizers of this site, not the frequent posters that drive the intellectual content of the site. The minor league analysis provided by the posters like Cricket provide interesting perspective. What do you provide with your all to frequent negativity without analysis to back it (N.B. there has never been a manager of the millennium)? Ageism as an excuse is not analysis.
  9. I'm working on that. Its just hard being better than everybody else.. If you do not like threads of get a great player for two tin cans or free agent sigings here that are not realistic, and by your last thread comment think you are reasonably intelligent I offer you this challenge. Start a thread of something other than whinning about others.
  10. What is the point over complaining how many pitchers were taken? They comprise half the roster and are the most difficult to guess talent wise.
  11. You obviously never knew anyone who paid for the success of Romney'd business practices, nor looked at how he made the majority of his money. The success he had at the Olympics were from the bailout by the Federal government, something Atlanta or LA needed.
  12. Refining pitching has to be a hard job. Batters can make a mistake on two pitches and still have another chance. Pitchers make a mistake and get to face another batter with someone on base. To throw something the hitters can't immediately recognize within a few inches of a spot is difficult to do. To throw it with trajectory and spin so that when the hitter does make contact it does not go far or fast is also hard. To throw a couple different pitches that look the same starting out would also be difficult. To throw it fast enough to decrease the time the hitter has to react is a talent very few have. To refine someone who has success against lesser talent would be another component to add. Correcting whatever is the difference on a pitcher between success and failure is probably different for each pitcher.
  13. Why do I think you had trouble completing high school? USAFChief has a good memory for past postings.
  14. so if we signed these 2 , then traded span for shields and maybe throw in escobar hernandez and even hermsen to obtain scotty shields then we would have 4 solid pitchers to start with, and i believe ticket sales would once agian take us back over the 3, million mark. making them truely affordible, add in next years tv increase and morny coming off the books why not spend this year and save next year ? You make an assumption that the Rays want to trade a stud pitcher for one player and a pile of nothing.
  15. Ryan got pitchers like Joe Mays and Carlos Silva. Do not forget Santana was aquired outside of the organization. Lohse was origionally from elswhere. That is off the top of my head. Joe Mays had one good season out of six with us. Silva pitched one very good year with us, two okay ones and a really bad one. Santana wasn't a FA signing or a trade, he was a rule 5 pick up. And Lohse wasn't that good with us either. He also failed to sign Santana early enough to avoid Smith having to trade him after the '07 season... Rule V pickup I do believe is going out and getting pitching. Mays seemed to have it figured out then he got injured and was never the same again. Silva appeared to have pitched well enough to get a monster contract.
  16. And still be available if Gardenhire et al. so choses.
  17. Please consider that you are different from a mainstream sports writer and ask questions from your point of view . Terry Ryan has appeared many places. Please use what makes you different from the mainstream and ask questions from that view. It would be a unique opportunity to shed a light on the Twins from a different perspective.
  18. Yep, his acquisitions of players like Willingham, Doumit, Carroll and Burton certainly led this team right down the tubes. He should not only fire himself but commit seppuku on the mound at Target Field. Do you ever get bored of posting some variation of the same "fire everyone" comment on every thread? Obviously not
  19. It's his thing. He ignores facts, Thrylos makes them up. The Twins Daily version of Romney/Ryan! Politics-injector always is the loser of the point in question. Holy crap. I agree with jokin. Who knew? Seriously "gunnarthor." That comment was a massive fail. You all protest the politics but do not disprove the lack of reality by twinswon1991 and Thrylos
  20. It is entertaining to have the impossible trades and signings brought up.
  21. You are the metrics geek, ask him about what metrics they use in their analysis of players. You will either be very happy, or others will finally be justified in their comments. In past years when making trades Ryan has found a good number of capable pitchers in other organizations. What does he look for that they other people are missing.
  22. Ryan got pitchers like Joe Mays and Carlos Silva. Do not forget Santana was aquired outside of the organization. Lohse was origionally from elswhere. That is off the top of my head.
  23. Again, since you did not appear to read the commet, It was in regards to what Willihamer posted. Clearly in his senario the announcers are not talking together. OPS is advanced? How is that going to be predictive of Cano or Nix hitting against Verlander? In describing the overall talents of a player, all the stats are great. Doesn't mean much against a higher leveel of talent. Doesn't mean as much if they were facing a junkballer either. In the game they need to describe the situation and what the player can do. Nothing much of a slash line will describe that. Knowledge of what the player can do is.
  24. Willihamer does a fine job showing the difficulty the people who are only concerned with stats have with the people who want to know the how and mechanics of the game. The people who would prefer descriptions would tune out quickly to a talk of statistics. Then again, they can discuss the WAR of the Twins roster conisting of the very replacement players they are.
  25. Then are you speaking from experience when you say a thirty something can do a better job than an elder? The ability to use a computer is not tied to age. I am sure Warren Buffet learned to use one. They were pretty rudimentary in Gates and Wozniak's youth.
