  1. Milone has not exactly been dominate in AAA since being sent down. Maybe being in a new organization will enliven him
  2. Oakland might need an upgrade over Gomes in their all out push.
  3. Besides that you can find a Deduno or a Pino when you go looking, Logan Darnell, Kris Johnson, Gilmartin, Taylor Rodgers, Pat Dean, Tyler Duffrey, Jason Wheeler, Tonshaw and Brett Lee would all be good reasons to try to get a higher ceiling but lower level player rather than another 4/5 starter. Perhaps why deals have not been done thus far is that Ryan is trying to get as much upside as possible. There are plenty of lower ceiling talents in the system
  4. "You can never have pitching" is incorrect. What good is a minor leauge system that would be full of Jeff Manship clones? Your selection of pitchers are all low ceiling guys. This is known. A lower level prospect that has something to hint athere might be a higher upside would be better than what you propose. See the careers of the high level prospect received from the Santana trade.
  5. I do not think the Twins need more ceiling of number 4 starter type pitchers. I know that wasn't always the case http://www.minorleagueball.com/2008/7/17/573455/minnesota-twins-top-20-pro but they need to have higher ceiling prospects.
  6. Since Burns was called up to replace Gentry I doubt that this would be a trade that would be made. Most anybody should like that trade for the Twins
  7. A prospect below the 250 rating is not much of a prospect ulnless the are under 21 in rookie level ball. It is not quite garbage out, garbage in but close. The little value that these prospects have is that they can be fodder for a better band aid than what you pick up off the scap heap. You can call them lottery tickets, but it is for Northstar cash.
  8. Did they have a stat to say how effective the shifts were? They may have used them more often, but the important part is if they are effective.
  9. My mom loves Gardenhire. So I guess the all in your statement wil always be incorrect.
  10. Cardinals value pitch framing, Suzuki does not. That would leave Baltimore which has 2 no hit catchers. If they are happy with how they are playing there would be no trade possibility there. I can't imagine how they could be happy. Baltimore overpaid on Feldman. Maybe lightnnig can strike twice
  11. You don't know if his contribution to others improves them. AJ Achter credits his improvement to Mike Pelfrey. Achter was not on the radar at spring despite being in the AFL. What he is doing in Rochester would lead one to believe he has a shot at being part of the bullpen of the future. You don't know if having an experienced catcher around will have an observation that improves a young player or not. If you think that having Suzuki around for the coming onslaught of AAA pitchers might make them learn more and improve, then it could be worth keeping him around. That benefit would outweigh another C prospect. Now a better prospect, you have to think more. The team should be picky. Just so there is no confusion, don't trade just for anything, but trade for quality
  12. Does not mean they will, either. There seems to be this great expectation that something of great value can be had for Suzuki. The value will depend on what the Twins see in the prospect versus what the other team missed. Sorry, I just can not jump on the bandwagon that says Suzuki will sell high. A C+ prospect ata time of trade that the Twins unearth a B+ prospect out of. Sort of like Escobar out of Liriano. Nobody thought much of Escobar at the time. The team that would appear to have the need, Suzuki does not fit their style.
  13. Selling high is getting a C++ prospect rather than a C+ prospect? When people argue for the sell high point of view I am led to believe they think the Twins are going to get a great prospect back. The value of the prospect they get back will depend on the savvyness of the Twins FO to pluck an unrecognized gem out of the other team's system. The value Suzuki has will always be determined by demand versus similar talent. If a team needs a starter, they can look to Suzuki if he fits what they want out of a catcher. Then he has higher value. If he doesn't, his value is unchanged. A team needs a backup catcher they might just pick someone off the scrap heap for fill in rather than part with something of value for someone they do not value.
  14. Suzuki has been a late season trade the last 2 years, one trade that rated a C+prospect and one that rated a c. Yes teams will trade for a rental. Don't expect much in return. Now if you think Ryan is a crafty trader of talent, you could expect a little more than not much. Are teams going to look at his career or what he has done for 4 months? Is Baltimore unhappy with their tandem? Is St Louis seen enough of Kottaras to think they need a different backup? Suzuki has been playing most of the season, does he do poorly in a backup role? These are the questions that would need to be answered. If the first 2 answers have one as a yes, you have a trade partner unless the third answer is yes. If the third answer is yes, you do not have a buy high proposition.
  15. The results in CF of the play of the rookie shortstop appear to be better than mastro or pressly
  16. The article calls him an aging veteran and says he is going to regress. If some fan can figure that out, why couldn't most front offices of contending teams? The sell high notion because he was an All Star makes no sense. He is sell high only if there is demand and he is deemed as the one catcher that could put people over the top. Somebody has posted about how poor of a pitch framer he is. If that is the hot skill the team is looking for, there goes places Suzuki could go
  17. Keep in mind that Miami, the White Sox or the Mets could tank also. If you are wishing the Twins to make up lost ground you need to hope the other 7 teams along with the 3 I mentioned play each other a lot. Also be mindful that for the Twins to be doing worse than they are now means that the players brought in to substitute for the ones let go were in aggregate worse than what they replaced. In a trying to win mode then Ryan was better of trying what he did than utilizing what he had.
  18. Is there some added bonus for ever full year of service time after 5 years in the MLB pension? Guerrier was released shortly after passing the 9 year mark. Bartlet officially retired about the day after 7.
  19. Headly was traded to NY with a million dollars for Solarte, hitting .190 since May 14 and a class A reliever. You could say that the trade was a salary dump for San Diego. It makes me wonder how much the Twins will have to pay if they trade Morales.
  20. I should have made it clearer that the trade should be done for the prospects who make it to the major leagues. You are correct in what anyone else should bring back is lightning in a bottle. The minors are filled with c prospects that should be available.
  21. There are those that have not so fond memories of Ron Davis. I mean, when Matt Capps drove you nuts, all you had to remember RD. If the pieces back are significantly better than Perkins, like an AJ trade of a few years ago, then you have to do the deal and fix the new hole.
  22. You are upset that Mark DeRosa is not on the list ahead of the May and Meyer, even though DeRosa did not pitch in the majors
  23. I doubted that Ryan would be fired. That should in no way be construed as a statement in support or against. Not in defense of Ryan but I think what determines Ryan career longevity is not where the club has been or done but the direction it is going. Bill Smith ran the club for 3 years. At the end of 3 years the club was in far worse shape. Ryan was interim. Had the powers that be not liked the job, he would have received a thank you and been replaced. You can pile up all of what you think what is and the way it should be. It has entertainment value. If the discussion is about what you think the club will do, then there are different ways to look at it. A GM will get a chance to rebuild what he built once before if it was successful in the eyes of the owner. Do you think 2002-2007 was a success in Pohlad's eyes? Hint, attendance in the metrodome doubled. Target field was approved during that time.
