  1. Maybe better as players.
  2. Since it might be obvious I am not an accountant. what % will the state get if Pohlad sells the team? DeRosa would make $600,000 as an announcer?
  3. Kubel, hopefully only a couple of weeks, unless 98% of the universe is wrong on anticipating his production. Willingham, Aug 31.
  4. Diamond's spring training performance will help him clear waivers to go to Rochester
  5. If it were merely luck there would be no need to have a scouting department. All you would need is a dart board with all the possible names on it. To answer your other question. If it were only so simple as to say we want 16 new players right now who can play above average and to blame one person when things go wrong.
  6. Adding a very slightly less mediocre player may be on paper an improvement, but is it really an improvement?
  7. The Twins ought to remember not to overvalue their players. With any player out of options the question should be "What has the player done recently that would cause someone to claim them?" If you have an answer for that question then ask why isn't that player doing it now.. They could send half of the position players through waivers without a claim.
  8. The hope would be that if he learns to make contact with mlb pitching he can hit like he did in the minors. A 32% K rate makes if very difficult to have a good outcome.
  9. What was available from the start of camp to make it a good team?
  10. no. Diamond and Devries were on the DL by the start of the season. Hernandez and Walters were in AAA
  11. Morneau, Doumit and a bunch of other outfielders that are available in AAA were the losses from the offense. Pinto could provide what Morneau did last year. If the rest maintain where they were at and Hicks hits better the offense should not be any worse than last year. Pitching staff is better. It might mean that they lose closer games, it might mean a better team. The one thing that is certain is nothing. There is a big pile of ifs. If a few things go bad, they could lose 100. If everything breaks to the good, they could be .500. That everything is Hughes, Pelphry, Nolasco pitch like middle of rotation pitchers, Gibson gets there by mid season, Arcia, Hicks and Pinto are the real deal, Danny Santana gets there by mid season, and one of Collabello or Parmelee steps forward or the Twins pick up an above average player to fill that role like they did with Shannon Stewart. One can be optimistic until cold reality hits.
  12. Thank you. A lot better information than "he's done"
  13. Look at the liked thing. Off topic, but does Best Steak House still have the $2.00 Ribeye?
  14. In regards to stress fracture. When the time off the legs before even beginning rehab is given as 3-4 times longer than standard timing for recovery from that type of problem, doesn't that raise a red flag that there might also be something else going on? It is also very early in the season to be an overuse injury unless there are other factors. It is not like he is pounding miles on a hard surface like a runner or basketball player. True he can probably do a mid air pirouette as well as a ballet dancer, but he lands on dirt, not a hardwood floor. The problem is not the diagnosis of stress fracture, it is the leg weakness thing. Leg weakness can be a diagnosis, but it is the symptom of a problem. It is not a condition these athletes did something stupid to get. Why make fun of it? Not so long ago people were making fun of concussions. A little knowledge changed that.
  15. I can well understand why many would find it funny. Fans are who they are. Doesn't make either of my comments wrong, either.
  16. I have noticed that people on this board tend to "fool around" with things that they do not accept or understand.
  17. You are all missing the bilateral stress fracture part. That would be two broken legs without displacement of the bones. That they are wanting him off his legs that long would lead me to believe there might be a couple fractures on each.
  18. As a starting point this is so offensively low of an .offer for an all star catcher I doubt that it could even start a conversation.
  19. Star Tribune? Someone on these boards said that Twins should trade Pamelee and a non top 15 prospect for the Astro's catcher Castro. There are plenty of trade proposals on these boards that match anything in the Strib.
  20. Might not Perez be a better prospect at catching than Pinto? Perhaps if you are complaining of the slow development of Pinto you could point out how the Twins have held him back. Each player develops differently. IIRC Mauer was up through the system quickly. Did Mauer belong in the bigs at age 19? Hosmer was a high pick. Much different than Pinto.
  21. IIRC when Santana was sent down he said he was told to work on making the routine plays. I am sure that there are plenty of interpretations of that. Given that he has a lot of errorrs my guess he loses focus on the routine plays.. As the game speeds up, you can not do that.
  22. Bernie may have been a scout as his credential to write but I don't think he watched much of the Twins to write this piece. It would be the current roster adjusted with a couple prospects. Alternative theory is somehow Presley is going to hit like he did in Altoona, Willingham will have a monster year this year as well as found someone doing stem cell research and made his knees 20 years old. Then Bernie is a genius.
  23. Yu Darvish did just fine last year with a low FS%. Phil Hughes did not do fine with a high FS%. It is like most statistics in baseball not necessarily the accurate statistic to define success of a pitcher. Statistics that weigh in many factors attempt to correct, but that is a different thread. It would be worth noting that a 52.9% FS will generally not get many people excited about you as a starting pitcher unless you are Tom Glavine or Sam Deduno. Control and command are areas that May needs to work on. Multiple statistics will point that out. In terms of the significance of FS% and slash lines. Eyeballing statistics from the leaderboard, the better the slash line the lower FS% thrown to them. It becomes a chicken or egg. Does having a FS cause poor hitting or does poor hitting lead to seeing a higher FS%
  24. I am not disputing the iwsdom of first strike, but the difference in batter statistics on first strike pitchesmight be an indication of what the batter is capable of versus what the pitcher throws. For example the 7/8/9 batter in most any lineup should be seein a strike about 95% of the time. 3/4/5 hitters you migt be trying to be a little too cute and be missing close.
  25. Willingham signed for less per year than other offers because the Twins offered the third year. From your list I would say Hunter was the only mistake so far.
