  1. Had one bad inning, shut them out the rest of the time. Sounds like a Twins pitcher to me. It seems like that what happens wit Correia and Nolasco.
  2. Nitpic I did not know that opinions from old stories had to be referenced here. it is called google There are several stories that say it was likely due to virus as well as. ones that say Dr. Mauer didn't believe it was viral. But as the headline says, everyone is a doctor. Except for me, of course. http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110415&content_id=17811516&vkey=news_min&c_id=min
  3. The cancer was treated. There are follow up visits, but there should be no health concerns. Recccurent cancer of his type is about 5%
  4. They did not learn after Joe Mays not to give a pitcher that relies on pinpoint control al large contract. Generally are not the same after injury. Periipheral numbers also were not kind to Joe
  5. My point really was there wasn't that much money spent in free agency that lumping it all togetherr was going to get you some really good player. . Your point appeared to be they should have spent it all on one player. If it is the process of how they add players,, ok. When you have to add players there are a few different ways. Free agency is one. Were the contract signed indicative of recent play by the players? Cirillo was around a 1.5 war player the previous 2 years. Rondel White the same. The pricetag was to what they performed as. The expectation was that was the kind of player you were signing. That is not unreasonable. Ramon Ortiz has tantalized GMs for 10 years. Ryan is but one of many. At least he got a prospect. I thought Ponson was a minor league invite. Regardless, he did not stay long. And yes, they could have had a better evaluation process. How else should have they added talent that year. Hindsight to say you should have signed Hunter at 5/75. Easy to say if they were not going to sign him they should have traded him. Leading up to the 2007 season they had 12 prospects that graded B or higher. That would have been so smart to trade the right 10. I could be so smart and say they should have been trading Mauer and Morneau at their peak value that year . Would have brought in a ton of talent. How many years of contact between the 2 ended up or will end up as "dead wood" for what they were or will be paid. Looking back it is easy to say the process was wrong.
  6. Colon should have been behind Rivera in the voting for second place
  7. after the 2004 season they signed 2 players Juan Casro for 2 years, 1 million a year. I don't think anyone would say the Redman was a bad signing or a waste of money 2005 Rondel White for 2 years 2.5 million. 2006 Ortiz and Cirillo. Spent 4.6 mil Got Matt Marci in return. 3 year period. 11 million. Whata could have Ryan gotten with better budgeting over the three years for about 3.5 million per year?
  8. So the front office is capable of doing math.
  9. Because it is in a thread and I gig not bother to ignore the person.
  10. Although I really would hate to rehash 2013, You are correct with noting one problem. I don't think the tradeable pieces off that team cooperated by playing well. The young players other than Dozier did not step forward. There were no minor leaguers like a Santana close enough to be given a shot.. If there were young players to be given a shot, they got it. Hicks, Parmelee, Collabello, Herman, Pressley, Albers and Hendriks all had chances to step forward. Not to mentions several 100 AAA batters and pitchers that made an extended appearance. Thielbar was Rookie of the year? http://twinsdaily.com/articles.html/_/minnesota-twins-news/minnesota-twins/2013-twins-rookie-of-the-year-who-gets-your-vote-r2091 There were no veterans playing well enough to get trade value for, there were no new players playing well enough to generate hope, the only player that played with hope for the future was Dozier.
  11. At this point in their careers with the Twins to demote either Deduno and Swarzak at any point this season would have been pointless. Swarzak is the long guy. He does the role adequately. If he was a better pitcher, he wouldn't be the long guy. His value is that I don't think just anybody is suited to that role, yet you need somebody in the pen who can do that role. Deduno came in the last game and made a bad situation worse. In terms of the bullpen only Perkins and Fien would be locks to come back next year. Pressly is making a good case to stay. Duensing and Swarzak are arb eligible. Duensing at 2 mil and Swarzak at 1 mil may be high for what they have done and the Twins will go another direction . If they do, that leaves 1-4 spots depending on the starters. After the AAA season ends Ibarra, Tonkin and Pryor will be up for their auditions. I would suspect Achter, who is not on the 40 man, would be up only if someone in the pen gets dfad.
  12. A K% of 26.6 % at the major league level. Didn't tabulate the AA level.
  13. 75 mil for Ethier, 120 mill for Kemp or 36 million for Nolasco. Nolasco as a bullpen arm might be more value for the dollar than the 2 outfielders .
  14. It is not for preparation to pitch, it is daily assessment of how he is pitching to stay on top of performance
  15. Gardenhire tends to use all of his players regularly. The option to have someone at the end of the bench just sitting there fades quickly. How many games did Bartlet get as the 25th man? (Yes I am too lazy to look that up)
  16. Quantify the benefits of Schaffer.. That is the issue. Fuld is what he is. For 2014 he played up to his abilities. Other years he did not. Schaffer is no Fuld. Shaffer would look to be more like Hicks at the major league level
  17. Personal opinion is that there is plenty of leeway given to pessimistic posts that are inflamatory on this board. I don't think it is the hyperbole as much as it iss is dividing people as you are either for what I say or against, dividing people into camps. With that division it cuts the meaningful conversation.
  18. Boston after trading their better players, Texas, Houston, DBacks, Cubs, and Colorado may be hard to "catch" San Diego and Philli could still tank. Meyer and May could come up and show how wrong the Twins were to leave them in AAA. To fall to the 18th pick is still possible. Faded memories seem to recall a quite a few years the Twins played well in September to give you hopes that were crushed by the following May
  19. Does "Remember when those few optimisic Twins fan said ..." sound better? To say FO Appologists would be inflamatory :shoot: (where is the dead smilie to go here?)
  20. Picking up someone else's discards has been the way of baseball teams since their inception
  21. It is still not too late to package Nunez and Duensing to get some organization's #12 rated prospect.
  22. Hunter Pence was traded mid game.
  23. Ryan said last winter he had to give Gardenhire a better team to work with. He admited he had to do a better job of bringing in players. Is a direct quote on what Ryan thinks of Correia now newcessary to satisy some of hte people here? What does that accomplish. When they signed Correia there was a quote I rewcall reading thta they thought they saw some things they could improve on with Correia. What they thought did not improve him. What good does it do for the team to bring that up? When they tried to get Garza after signing Nolasco and Hughes that should have yold you what they thought of the number 5 pitcher.
