  1. Wilf will make money regardless if the team wins or loses. That does not change. Player procurement, development and costs of mistakes are far different than in baseball. Is is like comparing fruits to vegetables. Illitich wants to win in the worst way. His team has not won and are not getting any closer but it would seem further. Getting better in baseball is not an easy task. Just look at the White Sox.
  2. Before draft slots signability was an issue with the Twins. That is why they drafted Mauer over Pryor. The second issue is the risk/reward. Pohlad made his money off it. The sad truth is that many of the signable for cheaper money safe picks in the first round that Radcliff took went bust anyways.
  3. Nobody is irreplaceable in terms of a manager. Some may do some things better than others. Some much better. Nobody is irreplaceable
  4. Mad Dog for 3!!!! Oh, and he missed the shot. It is either that or Shaffer and Beresford work the butts off and others are slacking so Molitor is sending a message.
  5. After the losing streak started in August I began to think that they were tanking for number 1. Some patterns are leading me to believe it.
  6. Danny Santana had an OPS of over .800 and a WRC+ of 132 in 2014 yet no one would appear to be advocating that Santana play even though he matched those numbers in AAA the following year for a half season. If people are going to be Santana at 25 is hopeless why should I think that Walker could ever match an outlier number?
  7. Power in some players develops over time, With no ill intent and very jokingly you could then say Shaffer could develop power like Dozier. Unfortunately Walker's second best year for K% is 28%. That is still a very high rate to overcome to be productive. An argument over which player is or could be worse just shows how far this season has sunk.
  8. Where is the team this year? Damn Torii a 20 WAR player
  9. Considering that at the MLB level the Yankees have Tanaka and a lot of questions I would doubt they would deal major league ready pitching. Now you go blockbuster mode and trade Ervin, Dozier and a prospect for a pitcher and a catcher then it could get tempting for the Yankees.
  10. Not trying to derail the thread but being that Ryan is no longer here I wonder how many of the coaches will be returning. I can't help but think that Vavra and Glynn were Ryan's guys as possibly were Allen and Guardado. They brought up Allen to be assistant hitting coach, so how many will be staying if Molitor stays is a fair question and probably worthy of discussion as any pitcher in return is going to be a prospect. I would hope that they do not take an pitcher coming off injury.
  11. It is not s much the BABIP as it is BA to BABIP. A 40 point difference would seem to be the new normal. 68 points for Rosario would probably be unsustainable. Votto sticks around 50, It can be done, but rare. It would require resources I do not have to figure out why it has gone up. Aggressive swingers may make that difference. Higher LD% low IFFB % might play a factor for high BABIP. Aggressive swings on 2 strike pitches rather than just trying to make contact seems logical, but I would prefer to see data.
  12. You complained of Polanco and Kepler sitting.
  13. You completely ignore that learning from the coaches happen while they are not playing The process still hasn't determined if Meyer can be a starter. Opinions based on nothing concrete become petty. Washington wouldn't give up someone they thought was a top of the rotation pitcher for Span. There was enough of a red flag for them to trade him. It is not like Meyer was going to be easy to get a modicum of control. The Twins couldn't get his potential out of him, Washington did not think they could. Now it is the Angel's turn. If they can't then the Twins did not handle him incorrectly. Meyer becomes a talented player who couldn't put it together.
  14. Comparing developing baseball skills to drunk driving. I would have considered it one of the weirder arguments posted if not for presidential politics. Do you think that the time up here the coaches did not work with the players, all learning stopped ? They came to the ballpark put on their uniforms and sat in the clubhouse then sat on the bench. So, since I must be really really really ignorant, how does that have anything at all with being drunk and avoiding consequence. In regards to Meyer pitching one mlb game of 3.1 innings 68 pitches to do so, the Twins were probably justified in being confused what to do with him. At that pitch count per inning he is not going to make it far into games. There were 2 on when he left, so the reliever did their job of not making the damage worse. An over 25% BB% is not going to get a starter a fruitful career. A 6% difference between your K% and BB% does not bode well. Off of this one game how can you say right or wrong what the Twins did?
  15. When you say . In retrospect it really looks like this was done to be snotty towards the previous GM than it was anything else, because Ryan had no plan to replace anybody. It would be looking at the moves Smith had made. Cuddyer and Kubel became Willingham and Doumit, who then gave way to a series of prospect failures.
  16. Suzuki playing much for a month is neither going to help or hurt him in free agency. 10 years of data shows him for his good times and bad. Those 10 years should by now have shown him nothing is certain for starting. Starting is not a promised thing. Someone pretty much batting in the 8 hole all season could figure out the team is not expecting much out of their bat. The free agents similar to Suzuki at any position are going to look for what are their chances. They will not be concerned or even be aware of Suzuki.. I think if a player is bothered by how the Twins handled Suzuki's last month that they might not be confident enough in their talent. You don't need that on your team. In regards to Murphy, a sample size of one game now offsets the other 90 he played in.
  17. It could well be argued that the ends with Polanco and Kepler justified the means. Meyer has done nothing right or wrong. One start by Meyers proves nothing. One year of healthy MLB production will define it.
  18. Which one of the players let go was not brought into the system or signed as a free agent by Ryan?
  19. Orlando Hudson was the only veteran let go by Ryan that Smith obtained. Delmon Young was traded I do not thimk anyone would have wanted Delmon to stay. Pavano was kept a couple years too long. Ryan , in hindsight, should havve gotten rid of a Smith player sooner. Anything else were players Ryan obtained during his first tenure, or bit parts
  20. Defensive runs above average, error rates are near the worst in the league, Throwing the ball is not a strength, UZR as a team is near the bottom. Pick your defensive metric, one will tell you a different story than another.
  21. McLeod was in Boston. Probably knows Carfado. Nice to see Carfado boost his friends. Very Sid like
  22. If one believes O'leary, if the arm is up before the hips rotate and the front foot lands, all is good.
  23. With that high of K% that is about where his BABIP should be. Unfortunate that they don't have ld% for minors somewhere. His is probably high.
  24. Walker has things backwards. If his BA was his K average in the minors and his K average what his BA in the minors is, Walker would have been up last year. He has a good OPS in the minors, but not eye popping season. It would be a true miracle for the K% to come down to league average at the MLB level. Well, his K% is league average for a pitcher batting. Oswaldo Arcia had better numbers than Walker other than HR. He isn't making it at the mlb level. That is why Walker isn't being brought up. How many hitting coaches and still can't make contact.
  25. That is the problem. AB Walker has shown what he can do. What he doesn't do stands out as much as what he does do. One tool won't work.. The best reason to not bring him up is that there still might be a remote chance he could be of value in a trade where multiple players are sent. 3-4 "prospects" for a league average something. It would keep the mystery about how he would hit against major league pitching unknown
