    If the Dodgers win the WS this year the trade is an A. Does the trade make it much more likely, yes. Does it help them the following year? No, it hurts them. Pointless though in an obvious win now scenario. Maeda trade is not a win now move. It is moving a player who is not likely to be happy being a bullpen pitcher Boston needed to get under the luxury threshold and get some prospects in their system. The consequences of being over are too great. They were going to lose Betts, the get a few years of a cost controlled replacement and another prospect.. The Twins. If the Twins landed a pitcher that could get them past the Yankees they won the trade. They needed a staring pitcher to help stabilize the rotation. Maeda has been over a 2 fwar as a starter That is actually above what you get out of most starters. Still a third best starter territory. A little above average starter should get you just a little above average grade. Gave up Graterol. to get him. As a reliever does he have 4 seasons of being a full time near top reliever in baseball? If you think yes it is a bad trade. The FO thought otherwise.

    That is the reality take. Pretty much you can only use the years of team control, not subsequent years afterwards. It make take longer than 10 years for the catcher to get to his six year point. The reality take is pointless if you are looking at win now.

    Camargo is listed at 5-10 150 pounds. At that wispiness Fangraphs lists him at 35+ FV. Do not totally dismiss a 20 year old player.

    The Dodgers took advantage of 2 situations. Boston wanted to move contracts and the Dodgers helped them. In a win now mode Price and Betts for this year offers them a better chance than having Verdugo and Maeda. Credit the Dodgers for using the Boston declining Graterol to get more out of the Twins for Maeda. Give the Dodgers credit for recognizing that Maeda being viewed as a middle of the rotation starter by other teams became more valuable than they thought he was as a swing starter and reliever. The draft pick to the Dodgers has a higher ceiling than any of the prospects likely offered to make the trade happen. Kudos to the front office for extracting money out of the Dodgers. Money is still something the Dodgers have plenty of.

    May was not that good as a starter.While it is more profitable to be a mediocre starter than a set up reliever, it is not screwing anyone up by putting them in roles they can have success. There is only one number that supports Graterol as a starter, which is called velocity

    The Twins had a supplemental pick that year. They took Matt Bashore. The year before wash the big shooter and gutterez. To think they would have done better with draft choices is wishful thinking 2010 first round pick was Wimmers. Thos were some bad early round picks

    Are there any statistics out there to back up any claim that rankings have any validity. Because they publish an opinion doesn't mean there is a proven science behind there guesses. There was a posting a while back about bust rates. for one of the lists. Showed that there was a high bust rate in the top 20 and worse as the list went down. It was less than 50% at the top 20. The benchmark was really low. I remember that Nick Blackburn would have been considered a success. You might not remember what you do not want to believe.

    Neshak was out of options and not pitching well. It took a few years for him to be good post op. Randy Rosario? The Cubs sisn't get anything for him, either.. Oliver Drake. If that is the best veteran the Twins released, they are not doing poorly. I did not understand the Nick Anderson trade . Hopefully for him he doesn't do as Dereck Rodriguez did

    A hope is better than nothing. On the other hand Harper might be a lot better player than the fringe player the Twins used to release. I really don't remember a older fringe playerthat was released that amounted to much. Some younger players like Hendriks and Santana

    A pitcher that was good enough to rise through levels of minor league ball after about 12 games a level and makes a major league debut yet does not rise in the rankings would seem rather incongruous with top of the rotation potential.
