  1. The irreverence is right. Wasn't her tagline 'Fewer stats, more sass'? Nice to have brought her name up. Brings a smile to my face. As did this wrap-up.
  2. Wow! That would be pretty fast for Buxton. Well, if he's ready I can't see any reason why not.
  3. On a happier note, Joe Mauer turns 30 day. Aaron Gleeman turned 30 earlier this year and started watching Dawson’s Creek last night. If this is what happens at 30, Joe Mauer is going to be a waste of a lot of money for the next six years. I am less looking forward than ever before to turning 30 next month. If you (and Joe) can avoid Dawson"s Creek Syndrome you'll be fine. We should all pray for Aaron.
  4. Very nice analysis Parker. Thank you. I am not anxious to give up on Dozier. Here's hoping for a breakout year for Brian.
  5. Cannot believe Arcia lasted until 10:18 am. Clearly I am too slow for this game. Excited to read all this from you guys!
  6. As I read the article this is pretty much what my post was going to say. Arcia has hit at every level better than Hicks. This is not a dis on Hicks. His play in CF has been excellent and that is primarily what they were looking for, albeit with a little more offense than they've seen. Arcia is going to light things up. By July, 2014 ARCIA jerseys will be common at Target Field.
  7. I hope Polanco stays at SS. We have Rosario and others coming up who could play 2B. With Polance, Danny Santana & Niko we could find a real solution to SS that we've been missing.
  8. Tough not to pull for a guy who was ignored for so long as well. He would be a good bench player if he can hit MLB pitching. No evidence yet that he couldn't do that. The rosters are the problem for him.
  9. A lot of the fun this year is going to be keeping an eye on the future. Having Arcia back is part of that. Baseball - the greatest game on earth!
  10. I'm excited to see Arcia coming back. IMHO this kid is the best pure hitter in the Twins system not named Mauer. And all the best to Mastro, of course. I really believe that when he comes back Arcia will have earned his spot on the team and will not be the guy getting sent down to make room for Darin.
  11. Clemente is another who was, by all accounts, a fine man. A fellow who dealt with similar grief and bigotry as Jackie Robinson was Hank Greenberg. He was the first big name Jewish player and people were vicious to him. He also publicly welcomed Jackie Robinson when Jackie started with the Dodgers. Greenberg's last year in MLB was Robinson's first. I appreciate the reverence to Robinson, but where does it stop? Please get that this is in no way a dis to Clemente, nor any other individual who has endured unfair and inappropriate treatment.
  12. Correia has indeed been a professional who has given the Twins a chance to win 3 times already. Good for him and good for us! Go Kevin. Go Twins!
  13. I've noticed that Angel Morales is doing pretty well so far. He was high on most prospect lists what, two years ago? Three?
  14. As would I. Very excited about his future with the Twins.
  15. Colabello is certainly an interesting guy. Makes you kind of wonder why no team ever looked at him before, as his CAMA numbers were excellent for years. In a book whose title I cannot remember, Bill James talked about Brian Harper being that sort of player. He always had the skills. Too bad he didn't really get a chance until much of his career was behind him. On the other hand, I cannot see benching Justin so that Chris can play. A bench role might be appropriate. It will be interesting to see how they handle him. What would you do to get him on the 40 man roster?
  16. Good point. In 2010 Arcia was still playing the majority of his games in CF. Doesn't mean he is a high caliber MLB CF, but he could serve as an emergency CF.
  17. Yes. Hope he can get on track. Patience is a good thing, but there is a point at which you need to see what other approach might be helpful.
  18. IMHO: As long as he's not hitting .500 you can send him back down. This is just to give Arcia an introduction to MLB and the fans a taste of what's to come. The marketing on this team has been really stupid, pretending they are going to field a competitive team this year. The marketing approach should be trying to get fans to 'pick a kid to watch'. Is your guy Plouffe? Parmelee? Dozier? Hicks? Floriman? Escobar? Worley? And, of course, Mauer, Willingham, Morneau will be there, too! Something like that. Bring Arcia up. It may not be this trip, but this kid is going to make a difference.
  19. I've been a huge Arcia fan for a long time. He is hitting better at AAA than Hicks did in AA. A lot better. Yes, it's a small sample size, but he has hit at EVERY level better than Hicks did. I think it's great to have him up. Hope Gardy plays him. Here is where it could get sticky: 1. He comes up and is excellent 2. gets sent down 3. continues to crush AAA pitching Once on the radar fans will be anxious to get him back if they think he can help. Still, I like this move. The kid has certainly earned it. Where does he play? RF.
  20. That game was a must-miss. It was tough enough watching in a bar.
  21. I appreciate that in an ideal situation the lead-off hitter would take some pitches. I mean, when you get to the playoffs they will.... oh, wait. With a couple of weeks practice I could hit .051 and I'm 200 years old! (possible exaggeration) Hicks should be sent to AAA and Benson should be called up. He can't hit? Who will be able to tell the difference? It would give Benson one last chance to earn the spot we (many of us) expected him to be in today anyway. Hicks can go learn how to hit a fastball again and maybe even a breaking ball. In his defense, the difference in pitching from AA to MLB is night and day. It's not surprising that he is overmatched. Give him time. But make that time in AAA. P.S. Until tonight's game I was all for keeping him in MLB and moving him down in the order. No longer. He needs to go away for a long lesson. He is really bad right now. I'd rather have the pitcher bat.
  22. And the world trembles......
  23. Glenn Williams! He of the .902 OPS! I liked him. Recently I've been pulling for Joe Benson. Still am. Back in the day it was a guy named Cesar Tovar, he of the .703 career OPS. He was really fun. Managed a 12 year career out of that, too. Amazing. And I liked Al Worthington, though I cannot remember why. And Camilo Pascual! (though he was a starter for the Twins and not really a long-shot player). And Earl Battey (I have to shut up now). Damn, so many!
  24. Hope is good. I invite everyone to hope. History, however, suggests otherwise. As long as Terry Ryan is GM the Twins will not spend big on a FA. That doesn't mean that the scenario you laid out couldn't produce a team that will win a lot of games and be fun to watch. I agree with your implication, though, that if they do not fill the holes with actual value players they are unlikely to be a World Series team.
  25. And if you miss out on the sarcasm you will find there is little for you on the Internet. Hicks is overmatched, but we had no CF available. Joe Benson threw up on his opportunity and Mastro was injured. What to do?
