  1. They are letting him get in shape for the WBC.
  2. I like that. Jay Bell had a hell of a career. It was a costly trade, but it did wind up with the Twins getting their first World Series Championship.
  3. Are the Twins unusually inept at drafting for this position? When you draft someone very young they sometimes grow out of the position. Sure would like one of the kids race through the system and be a real solution for the Twins at SS.
  4. Very valid point. Makes sense.
  5. I've harped again and again that they would not start Hicks because they would lose a year of control if they don't keep him in the minors until June or so. I'm starting to change my mind. While I believe that he could very well be a GG CF, I no longer think his bat is going to be so great that we are looking at a perrenial All Star. Maybe that's why they seem to be willing to let him earn a job out of ST. Bet there's no way they'd let Arcia come up before June. That is, of course, if he's ready this year at all.
  6. Thanks beckmt. Thought provoking article. I would probably add Plouffe to the list. In the minor leagues until 2011 he never had an OPS greater than .736. That is not a stat that screams "big league third baseman!". His OPS for June and July were excellent, but the rest of the year was pretty weak. We all hope he found his swing, but I can't imagine where it was hiding for 7 years.
  7. I don't understand why we would let Justin go before we are certain that Parmelee is ready. Like months of evidence of certainty. Other than Parmelee I don't see what prospects he's blocking, either. Colabello hit .284 in AA last year. Kennys Vargas was great last year, but that was in low A ball. Who am I missing? This is a question, not a challenge. I really don't know who we have coming along at 1B to hold down the 'every day' role with Mauer & Doumit taking occasional games there.
  8. very similar to Miguel Sano’s at the same age A year apart age-wise (Sano @ 19, Arcia @ 20) in low A ball. Sano hit: .258/.373/.521 and Arcia hit: .352/.420/.704 (1.124 OPS) Last year in AA Acia hit: .328/.398/..557 as the youngest member of the Rock Cats. I have high hopes for Sano, but Arcia is the guy I am really excited about.
  9. Of course I wish the very best for Sano and the Twins. I know he was the youngest player on the team. Still, there seems a long bridge between hitting .258 in low A ball and being a star in MLB. Hope that all comes to pass. And as for my own 'over exuberance', I still think Arcia is the real deal. Hope they both become super-stars.
  10. Good luck Anorthagen. Thank you for reminding us that we were fortunate to play this greatest of games. Wish you well.
  11. I believe I will look at the stats. I understand that they are a small sample size. That being said, terms like 'useless' and 'meaningless' I believe to be over the top. The scouts and coaches will be looking for far more than I can see. They will know things about a player I cannot glean from the stats. But a hitter who has 2 hits in 30 at bats with 20 strikeouts needs more work before joining the team heading north. I will promise, my brothers, not to quote them endlessly.
  12. Appreciate those words, Seth. Ryan and Gardy drive me crazy sometimes, but I am never under the illusion that I know baseballl better than either of them. They look at a player and see completely different things than I am able to see. That's why Spring Training is important, but the stats from ST are not that big a deal.
  13. Saw that this article had been posted to and, as a big Arcia fan, had to check it out. Thanks for the update, SRP. I am really anxious to see how 2013 goes for this kid.
  14. Cather and pitcher (mostly catcher) through Babe Ruth baseball. Catcher in high school and on a town team. My claim to any level of competancy is that I beat a guy out for All Conference catcher in high school who went on to enjoy 491 PA over 7 years in and out of MLB. Me? I got into drugs. Apparently he was smarter than me, along with the higher upside thing.
  15. That is so very cool RodneyKline! Great to have you on the site. I was a playground supervisor once, so, you know, we're like brothers!
  16. Glad to see they are taking steps to insure the safety of our team. Good investigative journalism. Thank you (no mention of snow shoveling, though)
  17. We don't necessarily all feel the same way. As far as I'm concerned all are welcome. Now, I'm just a lowly former catcher from back in the deadball era, but I still post and people are pretty nice to me.
  18. Agree. I read at least two articles by scouts or analysts who said (prior to the draft) that Buxton should be the first player taken.
  19. There is no reason to rush him since he is so young. There is also no reason to hold him back if he's ready. Would be great to see him as a September call up in 2014. Bert Blyleven was 10-9 with a 3.18 ERA when he was 19 years old. (yes, I know, different era - but still..)
  20. mnfanforlife - really like this question. I don't know what a team would have to surrender for Xander Bogaerts, but I have to beleive it would be a lot. Methinks even Buxton (could we trade him now) does not look like the sure thing Bogaerts looks like. And a SS like that is what everyone but the Rockies are looking for.
  21. II would be delighted with more pop off the bench. Wonder where that will come from... Arcia?
  22. I find it amazing that you can think like that. Revere has hit at every level. I would be far less surprised if his BA was over .300 for 5 of the next 7 years than if in the next 7 years he ever hit less than .275 in a full season.
  23. ericchri - Your plus/minus system is amazing. The brilliance behind it is absolutely elusive! The science is mythical! The best example of the 'hunch-theory' logic I've ever seen. I look forward to your next post. (105 wins.... can't wait...)
  24. Trading Morneau now is indefensible. We already have issues/questions at every other infield position except catcher. We have one outfielder we are all confident in. Morneau showed signs of excellence at times last year. This is the year we will find out if he got his groove back. To trade him now could only be seen as a salary dump. If we don't have confidence in him why would any other team? He would bring next to nothing in a trade. Morneau says he doesn't know what the future holds. None of us do. I didn't read anything he said to mean 'I want out of here'. Maybe he gets traded at the deadline, I certainly don't know what's going to happen. But to trade him now makes no sense at all.
