  1. Mutter, mutter, mutter. Between Colabello & Parmelee, two guys who raked in AAA, you'd think we'd get a guy who could hit in MLB. Really need one, or both, of those guys to be a big league hitter. It seems that in the decade up to 2010 the Twins could always bring in some AAA guy that was little known and he would surprise everyone with a great showing. Happened again and again. Our 'rich farm system' in 2013 had its treasures buried too deep for this year. Rochester, for the most part, was not very helpful.
  2. Personally I'd be shocked. And thrilled.
  3. I am not clear as to the assignments of the coaches. If it is the bullpen coach who primarily works to refine the pitches of the starting pitchers, then I am clearly amiss in my statement.
  4. I think his minor league numbers are too good to expect him to be less than excellent. He will be a cornerstone of the Twins future, along with our soon-to-be hotshots.
  5. While I understand that signing a pitcher with an ERA of 5.31 is unattractive, how 'bout a guy whose ERA in June was better than May, whose ERA in July (3.25) was better than June, and whose ERA in August (3.60) was not too bad? Yes, that too, was Mike Pelfrey. (this would have looked so much better if his ERA in Sep wasn't 12.00 - SSS though)
  6. Hmmm... Name one pitcher that came to the Twins from another MLB team who got better SO/9 after working with Anderson. Not sure he's the one we want 'refining' Meyer's technique.
  7. How that for analytical?
  8. I agree that brain injuries trump stubborn. Also, I have read that ESPN people say Sano's arm is too strong to hide at 1B. If he cannot stay at 3B they want to see him in RF.
  9. Jorge Polanco for 2013 @ low A ball as a 19 year old: .308/.362/.452 (.814). Those on the team who had a higher OPS: Player Age OPS Byron Buxton 19 .990 Adam Walker 21 .844 J.D.Williams 22 .852 Dalton Hicks 23 .850 Jorge played 57 games at 2B, 49 games at SS and 10 games as DH. I'm impressed!
  10. Today is September 15. It is morning so does not include today's game. Our beloved Canadian is hitting .262/.367/.310 (.677) for the Pirates. He has 2 XBH and they are both doubles. He has scored 3 runs and has 0 RBI. He is due for an explosive run. Sure hope it happens.
  11. Wow. You realize that in the last 3 years Presley has never been as bad as Hicks has been this year, right? Just because you have confidence in Hicks doesn't automatically make anyone else at his position a 'no talent bum'. Presley can keep the position warm until someone comes along and wins it on merit rather than promise.
  12. Well, the thread is about whether or not to use Rosario as a trade chip.
  13. Pretty much nothing could get me to trade Buxton. I would trade Sano to the Pirates for McCutchen, their pitching coach, Locke and Liriano. After McCutchen, the real win there might be the pitching coach. Actually, I'd maybe take that deal without Liriano. edit: pre-flame, I would insist on Liriano, too.
  14. Done with the Astros. Do we have any games against the White Sox left this year?
  15. Both Chris Colabello and Chris Parmelee have absolutely raked in AAA, Parmelee last year and Colabello this year. Most players with those kinds of statistics in AAA can be successful in MLB. Not all. It doesn’t always work. The way Parmelee hit this year is certainly a concern. Was the sudden inability to hit caused by a change in his approach or the approach the pitchers take to him? Is Colabello going to start hitting MLB pitching like he belongs there? He has an .863 OPS in his last 14 days covering 39 PA, but you can always find a bright spot if your Sample Size is Small enough. And whatever you believe about the above questions, do you: 1. insist on putting the 5’ 10” Arcia at 1B? 2. sign Justin Morneau? 3. leave the position to Mauer? 4. put Colabello there and expect him to win the position? 5. Put forth a different solution not mentioned here? I anxiously await the profound wisdom I just know will soon be coming my way.
  16. I'm am surprised at the negativity. Who would want the Twins to be winners more than the Pohlads? And if a player wants an 8 year, $22.5 million per year contract you can offer them a 3 year contract at $30 million/year. If a player was good enough to make that kind of demand they might actually be 'worth' those 3 years. I am going to believe the line. One more year. Go Twins!
  17. I think the 'Twins Way' was more about being solid in the fundamentals. Excellent defense, throwing to the right base, hitting the cut-off man, etc. And hustle, of course. If you don't play hard then someone who does play hard will beat you, often whether they have better players or not. I like the point in the article about pitching. No question that will be what makes the future Twins a powerhouse or not.
  18. I'm in the camp that says it's too early. But Rosario would be the one who could really bring something back. His stats are impressive for his age. The position flexibility is attractive, too. Pretty unfair that he's in the same program with the #1 and #3 rated prospects in baseball. He would get a lot more attention if he was playing in any other organization.
  19. That was mean. I used to enjoy your posts, clutterheart. You're dead to me now.
  20. I think I'll post something here that I feel has been under-represented. I really believe that Terry Ryan would like to have a winning team. More than TR, however, I suspect the Pohlads would love to have a winning team. These things take time, given where we found ourselves in 2011. Am I happy with the commitments made in the last off-season? No. I do believe, however, that the Pohlads feel Ryan is the baseball guy to create a winner for them. 'Bragging Rights' does not even begin to tell the story of a day in the life of a Pohlad when your team wins the World Series. I think that sometimes I have less patience than they do, but maybe not. Maybe they are unstable, obsessive, over-committed Twins fans, too.
  21. If that purpose is to remind you that you're not the only idiot in Minnesota still following a game when your team is down by a dozen runs, then it worked great for me today. Thank you!
  22. No question Hicks will be in AAA to start next year. Hopefully he'll follow his usual pattern of performing excellent in his second year at a level. Interesting observation about Santana. Unfortunately his .333 OBP this year was the best he's ever had, but maybe you're right. He has been getting better each of the last 3 years. Wondering a little bit who is playing 1B for the Twins, given you have Colabello & Parmelee in AAA. Good thread. It's never too early!
  23. Have you not been watching?
  24. Um, Morneau went 4 for 5 tonight and scored 2 runs. Looking now to see how Span did.
