  1. This is so very interesting. You sit down with MacKenzie Gore and ask a hypothetical question, like, "Would you sign for $6 million?" Gore looks at his financial adviser (Scott Boras) and his adviser slides a piece of paper to Gore. Gore reads it and says, "I'll sign for slightly under slot. I want $7 million." Asking the same question of Wright, he says, "Sure!". Now Gore has probably hurt himself a bit, but it really hasn't hurt Boras. And I suspect that is really who Boras is most concerned about.
  2. Actually I don't see him as much of a dark horse anymore. I have not seen a recent mock draft that has him falling past the #4 selection (I'm not closely monitoring all of them, however). I would be fine if the Twins took him with the #1 pick.
  3. True, but of those only Hobgood was a pitcher. Not a bad track record for the pitchers who have won.
  4. I prefer Wright, but I also really like MacKenzie Gore. If somehow the Twins wind up getting Gore & Shane Baz I would be really impressed.
  5. Thank you Cody. In the MONDAY’S PROBABLE STARTERS it shows that Lewis Thorpe has a record of 0-2 with a 1.38 ERA. I had to look it up to see if that was a typo. No. To be even more ridiculous, he has a WHIP of 0.769, 11.1 K/9 and 4K/W. If he keeps pitching like this I'm guessing he'll be fine. Might even have a winning record before the end of the year.
  6. Curtiss is new to AA where he has pitched 17.2 innings this year. Outstanding innings! If the results continue to be what he has been getting I expect they will move him up soon.
  7. Historically Niko has hit pretty well. >.800 OPS in A+ and AA last year. It's been more of a roller-coaster this year, but hopefully we'll see him start hitting with more consistency. He could be a helpful utility player.
  8. I like Hughes to the pen. He is getting by on guile right now. He's the 'crafty veteran', getting outs by using his experience and a pretty good control of his off-speed pitches. He may do well in the bullpen. I don't understand why they don't leave Gibson in AAA. They kept Berrios down until he had more than proven he had no business in AAA. Send Gibson down and tell him he's not coming back until at least 6 of 9 first pitches are strikes. This working your way to a 3-2 count on every batter is killing him and the team.
  9. Polanco has popped out as many times in his first 2 at bats tonight as Votto has in the last 4 years.
  10. If the Twins go with a high school player not named Greene I suspect his name will be Gore. Lewis is great if he winds up being another Correa. If not, it is a lost opportunity to strengthen the pitching.
  11. Excellent description. Except that if he is likely to make between $3.7 and $4.8 million he would probably sign for $5 million. Um, I would,
  12. Looking at our position players in the minors: In our AAA affiliate, Mitch Garver has an OPS of .886 and no one else is even close. Matt Hague is second with a .758 OPS. No one on the team is hitting >=.300. In our AA affiliate, only Nick Gordon (.875) and LaMonte Wade (.863) have a higher OPS than the .751 OPS that Edgar Corcino is posting. Corcino has a BA of .307, Gordon .305 and Wade .299. Any other promising bats (high OPS) are in A+. We have a few there (English .841, Granite .955, Kennedy .902, Paul .885, Weil .849). Arraez and his .902 OPS are out for the season. Vielma just got to AAA so let's see how he does. Basically it appears that we are pretty weak in hitters above A+. Of course A+ is a long way from MLB, but at least some of them look encouraging.
  13. I'm anxious for the game too, but Riverbrian, it's not 7:00 am yet. You're an odd guy.
  14. LaMonte Wade is looking pretty good in AA and we are pretty slim in our MLB OF backups. Thanks for the list. Fun to pull for these young men.
  15. You got to give Garver credit. His OPS is screaming, "Get me out of here". I get that this FO is committed to Gimenez, but NO ONE on the AAA roster has an OPS anywhere near Garver's .893. Very encouraging.
  16. The offense looks pretty sustainable except for Sano's BABIP, and I expect Dozier, whose career screams "I hit poorly in April", will pick up and make up for what we lose in Sano's normalizing BABIP. It comes down to pitching, and specifically starting pitching. I would not take a rental, but would look for a salary dump pitcher who can help this team for a couple of years, minimum. I'm still looking at this as a playoff team next year, not this year.
  17. Count me out of the Seth Romero conversation. The team obviously wanted him on their roster. They tried to work with him. They finally decided he was too much trouble. Now take that attitude and put a couple million $ in his pocket. You think he's going to suddenly become a hard working, focused prospect? I think it's unlikely.
  18. I was going to post a similar thought, though without quite the certainty you have. According to the scouting reports I've read, it appears that Gore has excellent command and plus secondary pitches. He also has a higher K rate than Greene. All this while sitting with a FB in the mid 90s. Unfortunately (for the Twins, not him) he has risen on draft boards significantly since April. I had wondered early if we could sign him substantially under slot, but he has no reason to sign for $4.5 million now. He's going to get more than that from somebody.
  19. Had to be an exciting day for Lachlan Wells. An eye-opener, too. He did well against two MLB All-Star players. Really happy for him. Booser or Clay had to face those guys, too. They should all be feeling pretty good today.
  20. Fun stuff. I haven't seen many draft boards where Lewis falls that far, but Bukauskas looks interesting and Gore could be something special.
  21. Very interesting way to look at it....
  22. It was 12 months just a year or two ago. I thought I had read that that may change, but don't know where it stands right now.
  23. Reservations I have toward each pitcher: Greene – HS development time, Lack of secondary pitches, If his FB had better movement wouldn’t he have had a lot more Ks? McKay – Lack of MLB velocity, Many ‘experts’ peg him as a #3 Wright – Command, Took him a while to get going this year, Last couple of starts before the draft will weigh heavily Gore - HS development time, Could be best in the draft, but that’s what they said about Kohl Stewart I have started to lean more toward Wright. If McKay has Greg Maddux control then drafting anyone else is a mistake, but that is unlikely. I just hope they get it right. EDIT: can't spell for sh**
  24. That's doesn't answer the question. The answer, for most people, is "yes". Now take out Jorge and Rosario and add in Fernando Romero. Take out Vielma and add in Gordon. Now do you do that trade?
  25. The Diamondbacks call. They have thrown in the towel and want to save some money toward a rebuild. You negotiate. We give them Randy Rosario, Felix Jorge, Kyle Stewart, Stephen Gansalves, Englb Vielma, Daniel Palka, Zach Granite, Tanner English and Zander Weil. We get Zach Greinke. We're taking on $150M+. This is how the Tigers have restocked their MLB team for years. We can't afford to do that kind of thing as often as they have, but we could swing something like this. Spend the rest of the year getting the BP staffed with the best we have, getting whatever playing time some position players need, fine tuning. Identifying exactly what we need to acquire in the off-season to make a serious playoff push. I would expect a playoff team in 2018. One that could go places. Would you do that trade? * yes, I know no one would ever want that many 40-man players - it's a hypothetical question *
