  1. Agree with above comments that I see Jeffers playing 50 games and would not be in my top three. Getting Lopez back to the pitcher he was in Baltimore would be huge when teamed with Duran at the end of games. Also can agree with Miranda, who should have a special bat with numbers much better than your projections. My third would be AK. Hell, he would be my number one. If he can put his wrist problems behind him, he can be one of the better hitters in baseball. Put that bat behind Arraez, Polo and Buxton with Miranda batting fifth and the Twins will score runs, a lot of runs.
  2. 100% agreement on bringing in the best reliever available. Unlike most of you I am happy with the starting rotation and the position players. Reasonable health and this team could be good, very good. As for spending more dollars, zero concern that their opening day payroll is equal to, greater or less than last year. The only other needs I see are a veteran catcher for St Paul and a top catching prospect who is at least at AA. If dollars are available and gotta be spent, spend them on extensions to a couple starters and probably Arraez.
  3. Hmmmh, they give away Urshela to clear third base for Miranda. They have Lee likely needing a spot a year, or so, from now. And here comes another article suggesting they use significant player/prospect capital to acquire a third baseman. Bah-Humbug!
  4. Like your thoughts, EGFT. Got me thinking that it makes sense to keep most/all of the guys mentioned. You never know, some good health and a few good years from Polo, Keps, Buxton and the starters and the Twins could be winning their division in July. On the other hand, should a few guys struggle and the injuries return, then do the trades you talked about at the deadline.
  5. Interesting, however, the only player it makes sense to trade before opening day is Kepler. Keep all the others for trades in July with the young guys working their way onto the team during the season. The only thing missing in your projections going forward are the unknown players that would be coming back from the trades. Gotta believe there would be a couple nice pieces.
  6. Have a question for everyone who thinks the Twins should be spending like the Mets, Giants, etc. Just went to the Mets website to see what tickets cost. Late April weekend game versus Braves, lower level a few sections beyond third base. Range was $190 to $390. Twins don’t have single game tix available yet, but I am guessing less than a hundred bucks. How many of you would be willing to pay, say $250+ per ticket? And if so, how many games you going to? For me it would be none.
  7. Finding someone to add to the rotation is a must. I think not and pray the FO does not agree with you. And trading Arraez for anyone would be a disaster. They have the AL batting champion. Build around him rather than give him away if I read what you wish for. Would another bullpen arm help, you betcha.
  8. That’s correct. I was also correct as a player from Minnesota pays Minnesota tax and doesn’t get a credit from Florida, like he would from say Wisconsin.
  9. The article confirms what I said. Maybe I can say it more clearly. Each player files a Non-Resident return in each State he plays in, paying that State’s tax on the income he earns in that State. He then files in the State of the team he plays for. He pays that State’s tax rate on 100% of his annual salary. He then deducts from the amount he owes as a credit the dollars paid to other States. So when a Twin plays 3 games in Florida, he pays taxes on it to Minnesota in full, as Florida has no income tax, ie, he doesn’t get a credit.
  10. Not true. He pays the NY rate on his entire income. He then gets a credit for the taxes paid to other states.
  11. $380M payroll? Is this the straw that broke the camel’s back and a hard cap/floor is on the horizon?
  12. Not going to speculate what the problem is, or even if there is a problem. Question, can he opt back in to the Twins contract?
  13. Adames, no. Agree we need one quality late inning reliever. Two good ones would be better.
  14. Yes it is a factor, he gets x%, is it 4%, of the extra $65M, thus reducing the difference. Although the good news is that should be tax deductible. OK tax guys, under this newest code is it?
  15. True, Nick. But it is a heck of a lot easier to draft a stud in football when they are 22 years old and you have watched them play for three or four years of college. Compare that with drafting high school kids or even college, which is so inferior to the big leagues. Most here probably aren't even aware but the first game late every summer was the college all-star team versus was it last year's champ? And some of those were very competitive games. Don't recall if the college kids ever won, but I am guessing they had a couple W's along the way.
  16. Thanks Wizard11. So when all is said and done, the extra $65M is probably a minimal amount. I wonder if Carlos is aware of that? Gotta believe Boras would have people doing an analysis of the after tax difference.
  17. Not really apples to apples, Nick. At least the drafting part. The Vikings can draft players to fill positions in the higher rounds, because those players are expected to contribute year 1. In baseball, even the top players often spend 4-5 or more years in the minors. Its a lot harder to know what positions of need will be five years from now. So in most cases, it makes sense to draft the best player available in baseball.
  18. Can't imagine he will have a better season than last. Wasn't that a pleasant surprise? I see him returning to a super utility role, only that he will play more in the infield than outfield. At least during the first half of the season before Lewis is ready to take over at short.
  19. Got a question as I haven't dealt with multi-state tax returns for several decades. In some states it used to be you filed and paid your tax in the other states. Then you filed in your home state and paid tax on your entire income at their rate, but received a credit for the dollars paid to the other states. So yes, it is complicated. Maybe there are some tax guys on TD today that can clarify if this is still done and if so, in California?
  20. I am beginning to wonder how smart Boras really is? Carlos is going to collect $65M more from the Giants, yes. But the California top tax rate is 13.3%, whereas Minnesota is 9.85%. Yes, Minny is among the highest, but California is the highest. And that extra 4.45% (over $15M) is no longer deductible on your FED return. Add the fact that over 35% of the $65M will go to the FEDS, and another +$22M is gone. So after calculating the tax effect, the difference in Carlos' pocket is a mere $27M or so. Now add the cost of living in SFO compared with the Twin Cities and the difference is even smaller. Gotta believe that he could get that proverbial mansion out on Lake Minnetonka for $3-$4M. I believe $3-$4M in SFO gets you something a little nicer than a fixer upper. Expect a comparable house is gonna cost him at least $10M. Also expect the cost of buying something from the Dior store in downtown SFO is going to be higher as will all his clothes which is taxed in California. If he really meant he liked it here and wanted to stay, he may end up regretting he or his agent's need for the biggest, splashiest contract.
  21. Interesting post, Seth, thanks and have a merry Christmas. I was among a tiny minority who was happy they didn't sign Correa. I am happy with Farmer manning short until Lewis is ready to begin his HOF career. I also am happy with the starting rotation. I expect their #2 thru #5 starters will match up with most teams 2-5. I believed they needed to make three moves during the offseason. First, a better than Jeffers catcher to start 100 games. Second, a very good late inning reliever to pair with Duran and Lopez. And third, a good veteran catcher to a minor league contract to work with the young arms in St. Paul and be available for a callup when Jeffers is injured. They got #1 and there remains time for #2 and #3. I value Keps more than most, however, with the Gallo signing I can accept he may be going. But I will be hurt beyond repair should they trade Luis. Waiting for his next 10 pitch at bat is one of the main reasons I stay around for all 9 innings of many games. Take care, Seth, and enjoy your Holiday.
  22. Three absolute studs, Duran, Miranda and Arraez, and another four who are solid big leaguers, contributing to the Twins last year. Add those four who were injured last year and you have 11 of 30 that are good to great Twins players with a couple more who still may make it someday. To me, that is way more than I would have expected. Note: I didn't include Graterol and others who are gone, knowing that a few returned meaningful players in return. Looking at this coming spring's Top 30, hopefully we will see the same come 2027.
  23. These signings are always interesting. And all teams sign guys like this to fill out AA and AAA rosters. Every once in a while, lightening strikes and one contributes to the big league club. Most interesting to me was De Leon. I believe he was the untouchable prospect when the Twins were talking about trading Dozier to the Dodgers. Believe a lot of people, here and elsewhere, were very high on this kid at that time. Didn't he eventually get traded to, was it Tampa? Good example that you just never know what a prospect is going to do.
  24. Feel much better about this signing after reading this, Nick, compared to the 500 or so comments last night that were less than favorable. Still gotta wonder if the Twins overpaid, but it was Boras they were dealing with, wasn’t it?
